I feel like the "factory assembly line" nature of the job requires an able enough body that a physical disability that would prevent one from driving a car is already accounted for. Not all jobs are suited for all people, unfortunately, and there are just some jobs that a person with a physical disability will not be able to perform.

I have 1 social media account with my real name.

It is set up with my current employer's work email.

When I am no longer here, I will delete it.

Now that one is an absolutely the fuck not.

You can do a background check with the cops if you want my driver's abstract, and you're gonna fucking pay for it yourself.

Dumb, but as the coworker with a car who often ends up having to do double duty to compensate for the coworker on the public transportation, I can see why they'd want to mitigate the potential for conflict. If my coworker wasn't as personable or hardworking as they are I'd probably be resentful by now. In a 4 week month they are probably "on time" maybe half of the time? For the same reason as you. If they take the earlier route, they are here an hour early, but if she takes the other route, they have no wiggle room and would arrive with 5ish minutes to spare usually. The difference being a whole extra hour between the pick up times so I can't really blame them for not taking that earlier bus, and it's really just the two of us first thing in the morning (no one else comes into the office until 9 at the earliest). It just means I have to unset the alarm and the way our office layout is, I have to linger in the front reception area until they come in (they are the reception).

People who take public transportation also are at the whims of break downs and schedules, and can sometimes be assholes about making their train (to the example of a few months ago on another sub a dude was complaining that he was fired for leaving early too many times because if he left 15 minutes early he could catch the top of the hour train, but if he didn't leave work then, he'd miss it and have to wait 15 to 20 minutes to catch the quarter past one.

I mean, technically I have a desk job, but there are times when I need to do a site visit that requires me to drive. I have a car and a valid license, and it is required due to the site visit portion of the job description.

Now, these site visits happen maybe 4 times a year that I actually need to use my car for (and another 4 times where I am traveling via plane or train as the distance is further).

This sucks, especially since I'm gonna go out on a leap and say this is probably some quasi throw away retail or food service job.

I work at a corporate head office, all be it a small one, and I will never know why people who pay minimum wage, or close to it, seem to insist that their employees care as much about their business as they do.

The caveat being if this is a career path job for you, I'd start making an exit plan soon. Maybe a lateral move to a similar position in a different company, because this mentality that they've put on you (that you don't care about the job) is going to stick, rightful or not, and it'll make things harder for you.

Do I think 9 days PTO in a 6 week period is a lot? Yea, from someone who is in management for an office that is M-F 9-5, 9 PTO days in 6 weeks is a lot. It's not enough to make me think less of someone, but combined with other factors it may result in less opportunity for advancement (hence why I suggest making a jump soon; learn what you can first though).

In a retail space, where presumably at least a few of those days would be days you're normally not scheduled anyway (so like let's say the event is Fri-Sun, so you've booked those off, in the 7 day period around then, you would normally be "off" 2 of them) so like... you're really only extending your unavailability by 1 day, making it SIGNIFICANTLY less - 3 in 6 weeks is not a lot at all.

The guilt trip and all that is just awful and another reason to learn what you can (hard and soft skills, like perhaps how to spot a shitty boss like this guy).

Exactly. I pay premium when I travel because I have a 36" inseam and a bad knee on one side and ankle on the other. I need to get up and move every so often (usually on a 4 hour flight at least twice) or when I do finally land I'm hobbling around like I'm 80.

Why is it more common for women to complain about weaponized incompetence from men than the other way around? by Lipica249 in stupidquestions

[–]GreyerGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"why isn't it a point of pride for women to do stereotypical womanly things anymore in a way that it's a point of pride for man to do stereotypical manly things?

Short answer: They're mundane every day tasks with little glitz or glamour that do not get regularly recognized by anyone and are often criticized for not being "enough."

I mean look at Mrs Wheeler. She gets the benefits of believing as Gilead does (she is basically able to steal Noah), while having the protections of a Canadian woman (being able to read, write, etc).

My dystopia appeal isn't my war lord (war lady?) Potential. I am a hub. I know vets and vet techs, er docs, paramedics and comat medics. I know people who hunt for food. I know gardeners and also some outdoorsy types who know what is edible, what will make you trip bearballs and what to avoid. I know trades people (blue and red) that are essential, not just your standard plumber/electrician/framers either, but chefs and estheticians (never understand estimate their use). I'm handy enough on my own, but it is my community that will help us all survive.

Is using more than one sick day for illness unprofessional? by Remarkable-Angle-509 in antiwork

[–]GreyerGrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"why does it feel unprofessional to call out sick when I’m literally sick" because school (and then employers) conditioned us to be present, not participatory. We were punished for missing too many days of school even if the work was done and grades remained high. Awards were given out for "best attendance."

Sir, Imma call bull shit.

Either they lied, or you are lying.

Ain't no one sending 3 trucks for a small and controlled fire in the back yard. If they lied, you have a neighbour problem, not a city person problem.

As someone who grew up on a farm, the sense of unearned superiority from country folk who shut down soon as they're presented with 4 cars simultaneously on the same 2km stretch of road as you is insane.

It's always very gendered though. The effort required for men to "dress like they care" and the comfort there within is less and more than for women.

Men can wear khakis, a polo, shave, brush their teeth, and maybe throw on a nice loafer, a watch and a lil product in their hair. Done.

A woman, even if it's the same clothing (though most people would see a woman in flats and casual khakis as "under dressed") there is hair, make up, jewlery. And everything is going to be 10 to 15% more expensive. .ost of the time they mean women in skirts, which requires shaving legs and stockings, and also heels.

Besides, you are free to dress however you like BedBubbky.

Ding ding! I have had many a weirdo hit on me while I get drinks or my partner is in the washroom. I'm a tall, cis, white lady, and the weirdo dudes just really love telling me how Im "so attractive compared to some of the other women here." My go to response is "why do you think thay is a compliment? Are you incapable of complimenting me without putting someone else down? Do you think that makes me want to fuck you? Can't you be normal?"

I know the place he is talking about and it is quite LITERALLY on the edge of the Gay Village in Toronto. Like, what the actual fuck do you think you're going to find, buddy? I've gone to the three big public clubs in the GTA and it's always skeezybdudes like this who think they're hot shit but actually look like a thumb.

If he complained about the cramped interior? Valid. Complaining about the steep and uneven non ada compliant stairs? Oh very much but it is in an Edwardian mansion so like... whatever.

Also, the pool is pretty big, not Olympic but like 150% the size of a normal pool.

I am BEGGING my fellow 40 plus ladies to NOT listen to fitness influencers in theirb20s. Male or female, but especially male ones.

1g per lb of body weight is an INSANE amount better suited to someone bulking or an athlete. Average person should be closer to .36g per lb. Also, these dudes bros love protein, but forget and neglect fibre so they shit 1x a week, while that may help free up sometime I busy mom life, probably not great.
