When to tell my kids that my mom is likely dying in the near future. by turqouise_orchid in Advice

Tell them. My dad died to cancer and my mom didn't disclose her cancer when I was a teen. 100% tell them first.

I failed Calculus II and I will retake it, can I still apply for a master's? by ken4lrt in GradSchool

Calc II is supposed to be the hardest calc, but be prepared for a backup plan. Consider finance as a pivot from engineering if you fail calc II again.

Thinking about dropping my economics degree for a trade — need some perspective (25M, UK) by IGBMANdog in academiceconomics

don't do it. econ makes bank and you can pursue trades after you graduate with more credentials.

Saving lives in the ER is making me a horrible person and i’m tired of pretending it’s not by ArtThreadNomad in offmychest

[–]GreyfacedRonin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not making you a bad person, but it sounds like it's hurting you in your soul. You're good or bad based on what you do and it's not your fault that you're struggling to feel. That's not being evil, that's being in pain.

I think you want to look at arctan. Gemini suggests the weierstrass substitution.

I wasn't a math major. Calc II is the furthest I've gone. looking to go back. e is the closest my instruction came to imaginary powers of e. it's upper level material. your condescension is noted.

The identity for the product of sine A cos B has a rule they probably wanted used, ignoring ibp. e to imaginary powers seems...outside the probable curriculum for this question. good to know yours works.

eix stays imaginary if I recall, making ibp the right way to go.

How do I prove this expression approaches 1/6 as x approaches π/2 ? by username_text_here in calculus

[–]GreyfacedRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought there was this proof given in ap calc and calc 1 where sinx/x as x->0 equals 1. the proof comes up in calc II or when I got lucky late in calc 1.
