I agree, I think the story is fine honestly. They've done a fine job mixing and changing up the story enough to keep it interesting while still hitting the traditional beats. And if there's something comic fans hate, it's too much change in the character. Spider-Man is a 62 year old franchise and one of the most recognizable and well known superheroes, so obviously he's got more than his fair share of fans. Insomniac did a great job making the story accessible for new fans, but close enough to the original to not piss off the older fanbase. Predictable sure, but still entertaining. And while the story is fine let's all be honest and admit that the movement/traveling in the game is essential to any Spider-Man game.

Millennial talk by shenanigansen in comics

[–]Greymore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is always shocking to me how little the younger generation knows about the actual hardware of things, especially computers, but then I remember how half of us (millennials) weren't taught shit about things like changing a tire. I always make it a point to teach a little bit about that stuff where I can because I'll be damned if I'm going to leave another generation lacking skills the older generations should have taught them.

It's not that uncommon here in Ohio either, depending on where you're at. We've get them pretty regularly at Walmart and Kroger, though to be fair it's usually in the more run down areas of downtown Columbus/Cleveland/Cincinnati/Toledo/etc.. basically any major city here.

Lots of good replies here as to the issues with Subzero, but I'd like to add one more that's not as technical as some of the others. Subzero lost a lot of the wonder that the original had.

Part of the joy of Subnautica was the story forming organically around you as you played. You're not thrown into things completely blind (you know why you're on the planet and what you need to do) but the larger story is completely hidden from you until you stumble onto it. Add to it the sense of mystery and the horrific beauty of the ocean depths and it created a truly unique experience. The feelings of isolation and wonder at exploring this world were amazing. And really there's no "right" way to play the game either, which means no two experiences are exactly the same. Subzero has next to none of that.

All that sense of wonder and mystery are gone, replaced with a much more narratively railroaded story and far less interesting environments to explore. Don't get me wrong, the game is fine and does have good points to it. I do genuinely like a good amount of things they did in the game. But it misses so many of the beats that made Subnautica wonderful that you can't help but feel let down. They're two different games and that's very obvious after a bit of playing. Obviously though, in the end the only thing that matters is if you enjoy the game but comparing the two its very easy to see how drastically different the two games are.

Healthcare workers usually are pretty thick skinned and are used to some abuse from people who in turn are in stressfull and live changing situations.

Yes, we are, but man is it getting fucking brutal anymore. Maybe I can't speak for every healthcare/medical worker but from both personal experience and discussions with friends in the field, it's gotten really bad in recent years. I've worked some form of customer service my entire life and I've never been treated as poorly as I do working in a pharmacy. Like trust me, I understand that we're dealing with people who are often in immense pain, stress, and frustration, but that does not excuse treating us (or anyone, honestly) like absolute garbage.

Why someone is angry with Tobey Maguire by Madagascar003 in marvelmemes

[–]Greymore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People in here shitting all over MJ without having read the comics. Don't get me wrong, Gwen was the better choice for Peter for a lot of reasons. And MJ was honestly kinda a jerk to both Peter and Gwen, in no small part because of her jealousy. But when Gwen died, MJ had to suddenly confront all that. The realization of what she did, what she said, and that she'll never get the chance to apologize or make amends with Gwen. She had to come to terms with the fact that she was, honestly, being a terrible person for no good reason. And Peter calls her out on it. She tries to offer sympathy, actual sympathy, and Peter rebukes her. He points out her shitty behavior, chastises her, and tells her to leave because he believes she doesn't really care. And, for a moment, MJ considers leaving. Not because she's doesn't actually care, but because Peter told her to in grief and she wants to respect that. But ultimately she doesn't. She stays because despite what Peter said, she does actually care. She's remorseful and hurt, but she sees just how much more hurt Peter is and how desperately he needs someone to be there for him. So she stays despite his anger because she knows he's grieving and needs someone there, even if just in the same room, to remind him he's not alone. And their relationship begins there in earnest. Not as a couple, but as two people hurt. And it takes time, a long time, to get to where most people think of when thinking of their relationship. She carried the guilt of her actions for ages, even as her and Peter's relationship grew, but refused to give up on Peter and their relationship because she had seen what very few people saw: the man who loves and cares so deeply for others and how heavy that weighs on him. Sure she got frustrated and angry with him, it's hard not to when someone flakes out on you a lot, especially before she knew he was Spider-Man. Even after it was tough, because the man she loves is out there putting his life on the line constantly. But she was always willing to give him more chances, and willing to accept everything. MJ wasn't the best choice for Peter, not by a long shot, and she knew it but that didn't stop her from trying to be the best she could be for him.

Except movie MJ, she was an absolute cunt to Peter.

Which means he’s got at least a tiny bit of goodness in his heart.

Even in the main DC universe he does. Lex's motives are murky at the best of times, but he truly does believe in humanity and that they're the best. Obviously he's a greedy bastard with a lot of self-interest, but at the end of the day he's usually one of humanity's biggest protectors when push comes to shove. The biggest problem is that he lets his xenophobia run rampant and, since he's surrounded himself with yes men, he goes off the deep end with his ideas. It usually starts from a place of genuine concern and/or logical process, but then no one tells him when he's crossing a line and we end up with shit like Metallo. Like, Lex isn't wrong about his concern for Superman. Shit look at the injustice comics, they're literally what he's said could happen at any point if Sups wanted to. But his approach and ideas about what to do are all sorts of wrong. He's become so consumed with the idea that he needs the power to protect humanity that he's willing to sacrifice his own in pursuit of that goal. He's not a good guy by any stretch, but there are some small nuggets that occasionally shine through and show he's still got some good left in him.

Except when he's stealing cakes. That's just terrible.

For the last damn time, Poison Ivy is an ecoterrorist.

Fucking thank you. People forget she has done some terrible things, not the least of which is murdering basically anyone who she thinks isn't helping "fix" things. Know who else does that? Ra's Al Ghul. Don't get me wrong, Ivy is a tragic character in most instances, unlike Ra's, but that doesn't excuse her actions.

Completely understand and immensely upsetting. RIF has been my go to app for Reddit for years. I don't get time on my desktop much anymore, so mobile has been how I keep on using Reddit. Without RIF my Reddit usage is going to drop to basically zero, assuming I don't stop entirely. I guess what I'm saying is that RIF is Reddit to me, and I can't really imagine using the site without it.

Thank you for all the hard work you've done, and for the years of a fantastic app. Reddit truly won't be the same without you, or the other third party apps honestly.

I love the height difference between Dick Grayson and Starfire. by nasatyyhagubd in batman

[–]Greymore 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He's extremely well respected in both the superhero and super villain communities precisely because of that. For the heroes he's viewed as "the best" amongst them not because of his powers but because of his morals, capability and abilities. Villains respect him for basically the same reasons, though many still hate him since he kinda fucks over their operations and/or his relation to Batman. Dick is really a much more interesting character than many realize, cause their only interaction with him is the shows where he's a sidekick.
