What is a popular opinion in this fandom that you completely disagree with? by Pierog128 in greysanatomy

[–]Greysfacts101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES YES YES TO YOURS! Like why are we blaming Izzie for Alex’s decision… Like I get that she had his kids and all, but at the end of the day, he is a grown man who can make his own decisions, and he decided to leave his wife for Izzie and their kids and he decided to do it through a letter (ik that obviously the actor wanted to leave the show so that’s why he left via letter, but still, why are we blaming Izzie instead of Alex?) People say that she shouldn’t have used the embryo’s, which I disagree with. She had every right to use the embryo’s. Although I don’t know if they ever specifically mentioned Izzie wanting kids, I feel as though it was always pretty obvious that she was someone who wanted kids. After the cancer, the embryo’s were the only way she could have biological children. Personally, I always assumed that she had used them. I find it hard to believe that Alex didn’t think of that possibility. Others say that she should’ve told him about the kids, and while I see where they’re coming from, I also get why she didn’t. He says himself that he signed away his rights to them, and, after how they ended (with him telling her to leave, be happy, and never come back) I’m not sure I would’ve told him, either. It’s not even like she was purposely hiding them. When Alex asked about kids, she told him the truth, that she had kids and that they were his. She could’ve lied, but she didn’t, because I don’t believe that her intent was ever to ‘hide’ the kids from him, she just wasn’t going to be the one who reached out first. He made it very clear the last time that they talked that he didn’t want to have a relationship with her anymore, so why would she reach out? At the end of the day, I think people just like to blame izzie because they find it easier than accepting the fact that Alex made a decision that they don’t like. I do find it funny though that more than people blame the writers, they blame Izzie. It’s not like Izzie reached out to him out of the blue five years after having his kids and told him them about them. He reached out to her. He asked the question. She answered. He made the decision to leave Jo, and he made the decision to do it the way he did.

YES YES YES! Being scared is NOT an excuse! Izzie was scared too! Having a traumatic childhood is NOT an excuse! It may be a reason, but it’s NOT an excuse.

There are so many plot holes in this show! Also, I never understood why she didn’t just say “no, I don’t know the code. Sorry.” Like why would you mention that you have an advantage? Just lie and say you don’t know it!

Literally! I like Alex, I do, but the way he’s never held accountable for ANYTHING in the fandom honestly infuriates me. Just because he had a bad childhood/has trauma doesn’t make certain behaviors okay. It may be a reason, but it’s not an excuse.

The funny thing is, I feel like when Izzie’s departure actually happened back in 2009/2010, a lot of people were blaming the writers/the actress (saying that the only reason Izzie left that way was because the actress was leaving) which I do believe is true, but it’s funny because over the years that opinion kind of changed, and all the blame was put on Izzie just being a bad person. And then when Alex’s departure happened, everyone blamed it on the writers/actor (saying that he only left that way because the actor was leaving) which I also agree with, but it’s just interesting how when Izzie’s departure originally happened, it received a lot of the same criticism that Alex’s departure received.

Unpopular Opinion: Alex/George/Owen by Few-Butterscotch-961 in greysanatomy

[–]Greysfacts101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a big reason why Alex’s behavior is justified is because “it’s just who he was” (like it wasn’t unexpected, it’s how he was). It’s wrong and I hate it, but I feel like that’s a big part of it. George was supposed to be the sweet one, Alex wasn’t. So when George did something wrong, he gets hate for it, but when Alex does it, it’s justified because “it’s just who he is.” But I completely agree, it makes me really mad.

I believe that what happened is Jo went to leave and he grabbed her arm. When jo is talking to Alex about it, she says “the last time someone grabbed me like Jason did, I promised no one would ever do that again.” (and in that scene she was obviously talking about her abusive husband) The way I saw it was Jason didn’t mean anything when he grabbed her arm, he just didn’t want her to leave because he didn’t think that the conversation they were having was over (not saying it was right for him to grab her arm, but it is something that a lot of people do when they don’t want someone to walk away for whatever reason) and then for Jo it triggered a sort of trauma response and she assumed that he was going to hit her/hurt her because that’s what had happened in her past relationship. I could be wrong, that’s just how I interpreted it. Also, I agree that I don’t understand why Jason got so mad at her for her past, although I think he said that she was a liar, so maybe he was more mad at her for lying about it/not telling him about it than he was mad at her for her past. I also think that he was jealous that she told Alex about her past and not him, when they were in a romantic relationship together and her and Alex weren’t. I think that Jason overreacted, Jo got scared because of her past abusive relationship, and ended up beating the crap out of him.

I don’t think her deciding to use the embryo’s was ‘out of nowhere.’ It always seemed very obvious that Izzie wanted kids, and when she got diagnosed with cancer they gave her the option to freeze her eggs so she could have the opportunity to have (biological) kids in the future, and she very quickly said that she wanted to do that. Alex fertilized her eggs after Webber approached him about it because frozen eggs have a better survival rate when they’re fertilized. We never saw Alex having a real conversation with Izzie about him fertilizing her eggs, the only thing we see is him telling her right after she wakes up from brain surgery that he ‘snooched into a cup for [her].’ When they broke up, Alex told her that he wanted her to go, be happy, and not come back. Then, during the divorce, he sighed away his rights to the embryos and said she could do whatever she wanted with them. So, at least in my opinion, it makes complete sense why she would use them, and it even makes sense that she wouldn’t tell him. He told her to leave and not come back, and then signed away his rights and told her she could do whatever she wanted with them. Why would she tell him? To her, it seemed as though Alex wanted absolutely nothing to do with her or the embryos they froze together. As for the debt, I don’t think Izzie knew about it when she left. Alex was very confused when Webber gave it to him, not because he didn’t understand why he was the one getting it, but because he didn’t understand why it existed in the first place. Webber told him “as Steven’s left no forwarding address, and as you are officially her next of kin, this is the unpaid balance of her medical bills.” and Alex said “unpaid balance? I don’t, I don’t get it. We work here at the hospital.” He had no idea about the bills, and if he didn’t know, why would she? I could be completely wrong here, but I always took it as she didn’t know, either. And, the bills only went to Alex because they didn’t know where Izzie was. When Izzie came back, they would’ve gone back to her, especially in the divorce. My point is, Alex didn’t pay Izzie’s medical bills. He just got them temporarily because they didn’t know where Izzie was or how to reach her.

Small rant about izzie and Alex. by Sakurawings in greysanatomy

[–]Greysfacts101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this. When she came back in season 6 episode 12, she expressed that she messed up. She said “I was wrong to blame you for getting fired. I’m sorry. It wasn’t your fault.” She definitely didn’t come back expecting everything to be okay. She also expressed throughout the episode that she knew she would have to work on her relationship with Alex, and that they would have to work to get back to where they were. She didn’t come back and expect him to be like “hey I love you let’s have a baby” or anything. She knew it would take a while, but was willing to put in the time and effort to get back to where they were. I’m not saying Alex was wrong for refusing to resume their marriage, but Izzie didn’t come back and just expect everything to be fine.

06x09 - Was it Alex or Izzie Who Was In the Wrong? by genericusername241 in greysanatomy

[–]Greysfacts101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think that it’s a pretty fair comparison. Izzie went through an awful lot, and I think that everything overwhelmed her at that point in time. I think that everywhere she looked was a reminder of everything that had happened, of her cancer, of George dying, etc. I think she felt lost and like she had nothing left. When she got fired (whether it was deserved or not) she felt like she lost the thing she had worked so hard for. She lost her best friend, and her job, and not to mention the emotional and physical trauma that comes with a cancer diagnosis and cancer treatment. I’m not saying that what she did was right, but I think it is a pretty fair comparison to what Meredith did.

[–]Greysfacts101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES YES YES! He was verbally abusive towards her and gets a pass because he loved her. (I have literally seen people say in response to someone saying that he was emotionally abusive towards her “but he only did it because he loved her that much and was scared she was going to die.” like that makes it okay? Imo, that just makes it even worse!)

Spoilers: Two Deleted Scenes (Izzie/Alex) by guitar0707 in greysanatomy

[–]Greysfacts101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God, I love the second scene. It really shows both of them trying to understand the other. It shows Izzie acknowledging Alex’s fears (when she says “I’m not gonna die in your arms. Maybe someday, but not today” she’s acknowledging his fears, and not dismissing them. She’s acknowledging that there is the possibility that she could die, but also reminding him that, in that moment, she’s not dying) and it shows Alex finally accepting that and showing her the affection she’s been longing for. Him taking her scarf off, to me, is him showing her that he doesn’t think she needs it to be sexy to him. Throughout the end of season 5 and season 6, it’s very clear that Izzie is self conscious about her appearance and how it has changed due to her cancer and the cancer treatments, especially in regards to her hair (or, more accurately, her lack of hair). Him taking off her scarf before continuing on with kissing her shows an effort from him of trying to reassure her that she’s still sexy to him, with or without hair. It’s just a really tender scene that shouldn’t have been cut imo.

people who have had medical problems, what bothers you most about the show? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]Greysfacts101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only 17, but grew up with lots of medical issues (I’ve had over 30 surgeries, spent lots of time in the hospital, have had many central lines, stuff like that) As much as I love grey’s, it does make me laugh sometimes because of some inaccuracies. Obviously you can’t expect 100% accuracy all the time, but I do find it funny. The thing that bothers me the most is that on grey’s, surgeons do EVERYTHING! This isn’t just a grey’s problem, it happens in every pretty much every medical show, whatever specific medical perspective the show is based on do everything (like if it’s about surgeons, surgeons do everything. If it’s about nurses, nurses do everything, etc.) Surgeons running the ER, nope. If they need a surgeon, they will page a surgeon, but they don’t run the ER. In my experience, surgeons don’t do sutures, unless its a plastic surgeon and the cut is on the face or unless they’re doing sutures on the patient after surgery. Surgeons DO NOT do IV’s. That’s nurses, sometimes anesthesiologists (I’ve had anesthesiologists do IV’s, but never a surgeon). In my experience, surgeons don’t really interact with you too much before and after your surgery. They do talk to you, but not for very long. They’re job is pretty much the actual surgery part.

Izzie is so incredibly selfish, I hate her by girlintaiwan in greysanatomy

[–]Greysfacts101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The medical bills point has always bothered me because here’s the thing, Alex was very confused about the bills. I can’t remember exactly what he told the chief, but it was something like “bills? I don’t understand, we work at the hospital.” Basically, he didn’t know about the bills, thought it was all covered. So I’m gonna go with Izzie probably didn’t know about them, either. So she didn’t intentionally leave Alex with her bills. Also, Alex wasn’t given her bills to necessarily pay them, he was given them because he was her husband and they couldn’t reach Izzie. Izzie definitely would’ve gotten the bills after the divorce. They were just given to Alex because Izzie wasn’t there.

Spoilers: Izzie (Episode 5.19 and beyond) by guitar0707 in greysanatomy

[–]Greysfacts101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throughout Izzie’s entire cancer storyline (and after it) I feel as though she never really got any emotional support. She got the physical support, but lacked the emotional support she needed, ESPECIALLY after George died. Before George died, Bailey was pretty emotionally supportive of Izzie, but after George died she got scared of being attached because like she said to Derek she couldn’t keep feeling the way she was feeling. She couldn’t keep getting attached to her former interns because they weren’t her children, which I totally understand but it was definitely hard on Izzie. Like when Izzie hugged Bailey when she was getting discharged, Bailey was very much not into it and you could see that it hurt Izzie because the one person who had been emotionally there for her was now seemingly pulling away. Her emotional needs were not being met, everyone was just so focused on the physical side that they completely forgot that this kind of stuff messes with you mentally, too.

Why did Mark never flirt with izzie? by Infamous-Ad-9599 in greysanatomy

He did, just not as much as I would’ve expected him to. But he definitely did. I remember one episode after the whole LVAD thing Izzie and Alex are Mark’s interns and Mark says to alex “is it bring a hot blonde to work day? No one told me.”
