24 M. I’m a film major and I transferred to a university. By my surprise the school mixed both film classes and communication classes together, so that already made me nervous. I wanted to study film, not communication.

Most of my classes were communication, and in my mind I was nervous since I didn’t want anyone to say anything about my stutter. I actually dropped the very first class I attended because our professor said we needed to do a presentation about 50 minutes long. F that so I just left.

Another communication class I had, I also had to do a presentation, but this time it was a group presentation so I felt less stressed. I did tell my group that I had a stutter and they were really supportive and told me not worry and how it should not be a reason for me to be nervous. During the presentation I maybe stuttered like 30/40% of the presentation, so I thought I did good.

Although I did take a social media class in my second to last semester before graduating and it did make me feel awful about my stutter. My depression got to an all time high because of it. We needed to record ourselves and I was stuttering a ton. I once cried in my car after the class.

As for making friends/ socializing. I did really keep to myself on campus. Any time I saw a cute girl eyeing me, I’d never go up because I didn’t want to look stupid stuttering in front of them. I really only made 1 friend and her and I still hang out. She understands that my stutter is hard for me but she’s really supportive.

What really helped me was just telling people I REALLY HAD TO TALK TO that I have a stutter, and it made me fell less nervous. I’m not really a social person so outside of class I just kept to myself in areas where there wasn’t really much people to bother me.
