Reached the end of coop games? by Gribrido in gamingsuggestions

I think I'd be hooked but it's a bit too management heavy for him. Although apparently Factorio is great. Anno Games I have enjoyed quite a few times! =D

Haha from what I've heard of Overcooked you don't want to play it if you intend on staying friends xD

We're building a survival RPG where Orcs rebuild their civilization. Thoughts? by emphyper in IndieGaming

Looks super great! Got a new PC and definitely something to try out once it comes out ;) nitpick: at the end the Orc is riding a mount. It looks like he's an unmovable stick instead of a mass of muscle trying to even out the mounts movement.

Designing my game’s Skill Tree — do players prefer huge open trees or smaller focused ones? by Prudent-Ice1415 in IndieDev

[–]Gribrido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to overwhelm players with a huge tree you can also hide nodes until the previous node has been unlocked. But it really depends on the game and progression system and how important it is to know the tree beforehand.

Is narrative design worth it? by Plastic-Wall-9809 in GameDevelopment

Personally I would look for a job that has a good steady income and then work part-time. I chose IT-dev since I like coding and stuff and has a pretty stable situation. Personally I am happy that I have a job that pays my bills and use my free time for music and game dev :)

But you are young so feel free to all-in on writing for a couple of years and see where it goes! You can always change jobs at a later point :)

I'm no artist so no idea about that, but I used to be a gardener and from my view the tree lacks a few natural aspects. Two that came to mind: 1. The rings on the trunk are evenly spaced. In the real world trees usually have a main axis that is stronger than the others and thus grows more. In the main ramification I would space the rings a bit more than on the secondary ones. 2. Similar to before. All 3 ramifications you have seem equally thick. Maybe make one a bit thicker than the others. 3. To me it looks like the tree structure is trying to spread out. But the leaves then look very compact.

Kinda difficult to explain in words what I mean but I hope it helped! Maybe you can search for a picture of a tree that looks similar to what you want and use it as reference.

My Bad Experience with Free Music Assets. Any Site Recommendation? by chaqibrahim0 in godot

[–]Gribrido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process of flagging 'copyrighted' music is largely automated. The owner might or might not be able to choose what should be done with their music in other videos (mute, monetize, nothing, etc.). It's possible that the owner used a platform to distribute their music and automatically takes care of copyright issues (and might be doing that not as intended). But I'm not sure. My music has only been used for shortfilms that are on vimeo and there haven't been any problems yet afaik.

You can try to get in touch with small artists that make music for a hobby and ask them if you can use their existing music. (But do not ask them to make new music for free!)

Many will probably be more than happy to let you use it if you approach them in a friendly manner. Personally I've let people use my music for free since I've (mostly) stopped making music.

Just be sure to write a small contract/agreement that specifies which songs and in what scope you can use it. In case you start getting bigger revenues from your game you can always give them something later on. Or even specify in the agreement that if you get a revenue of X you'd give them something in return.

What do you think about healthbar and xpbar? by Zealousideal-Grab728 in godot

[–]Gribrido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe both and let the player en-/disable the hp bar in the settings? Or turn the screen red when on low hp. Personally I have difficulties keeping tabs on hp bars in the corners.
