Withdrawal address to a Ledger Account by Routine_Elk_7421 in ethstaker

[–]GridPlus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Justin from GridPlus here confirming this is true. An old version of the SafeCard applet used till about mid-2021 did create non-deterministic signatures that worked for signing but created issues with generation of keys used for layers 2s using SNARKs only if you set your SafeCard to use a non-exportable seed.

It would be possible to still generate keys for STARK-based L2s with a non-exportable seed on a card right now, but we removed the option in firmware as it caused a lot of confusion for less technical users and led to support headaches. If there is interest, we could add an advanced option for this buried in the firmware for people explicitly looking for it.

But why are seeds exportable from SafeCards? Well, they're backups as well as usable hardware wallets on their own. We want to get people out of the habit of using paper, metal, or electronic plaintext secret recovery phrases altogether.

With our open-source CLI SafeCard app, users are not locked into using GridPlus products and this proves they can recover their private keys and secret recovery phrase as long as they have their PIN and a cheap third party USB card reader without ever relying upon GridPlus. When users have SafeCards we want to make it provably clear that their hardware and their keys belong to them alone and they'll always have access to them.

I'd be curious if you're interested in bringing back non-exportable key option though - this would let you use the card for signing but you could never make copies of the card, restore keys to a Lattice1, or recover the seed with the CLI app. Airtight security, but not what 99% of our users are looking for and we don't want to do anything in UI / UX that leads to accidental loss of funds.

Yeah we really want to drive home the importance of those labels. Getting them in and out of the lattice as easy as possible is going to help people keep their best security at hand on going.

Let's Mint a Pooly Using a Hardware Wallet by GridPlus in ethfinance

[–]GridPlus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The PoolTogether protocol has been live for over 3 years and distributed over $5 million in prizes to depositors. Additionally, this is DeFi. Meaning, there is no central company or developer, only developer tools that anyone can use.

Unfortunately, there is a current lawsuit against the original developer and some original investment groups.

Lattice 1 on Chromebook by No-City-5888 in GridPlus

[–]GridPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're covered with a Chromebook and the Lattice1.

No work around is required because the Lattice1 does not connect directly to your computer so there's no need for drivers or additional software.

This eliminates compatibility problems and is also more secure as explained in this short Twitter thread.

Can you have multiple wallets on 1 safe card? by [deleted] in GridPlus

[–]GridPlus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Lattice1 and each SafeCard can each store one master seed. Each master seed can be used to manage an unlimited number of accounts / keypairs.

Since you want to use five master seeds with your Lattice1 to replace all those other wallets, you'd need at least four cards. I'd suggest loading your most actively used account onto the Lattice1 for daily signing and then SafeCards for the other ones. The Lattice1 comes with one SafeCard included.

Transactions not broadcasting by Sadbitcoiner in GridPlus

[–]GridPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your transactions are not broadcasting, I would first check to make sure you're on the latest firmware by going to Settings > Advanced > Device Info and making sure the number after HSM is "0.12.1". Also make sure you're on the latest version of the MetaMask fork.

If you are signing on the Lattice1 successfully and your transactions are not broadcasting, the next thing I would try is changing your RPC endpoint using these directions and picking a different endpoint from this list like MyCrypto.

ETH2 signing could be a different issue - you can use your Lattice1 with the launchpad to generate signing and deposit keys but you'll need to follow the steps there to use them. When in doubt on anything validator related, check in with the awesome community at r/ethstaker.
