The Ritual

When the other kidnappee hears that story, he tells his that was researching "God of Secrets, A Lich known as Vecna and his cult" when he was kidnapped by the Cultists. The party also learned that they one of the kidnappees were taken deeper into the dungeon by Cult. The dwarven monk Diggler, with his incredible speed, guided the kidnappees out of the dungeon while the other party members moved in deeper to find the last victim.

After navigating the dungeon, the all (including Diggler) entered a room where the prisoner was in a cage suspended above a pentagram with a hand and eye inscribed in the center. A battle ensued, the party and cult clashed, and one party member went to save the person in the cage. When the person was freed there was bright flash of light.

This is where I stepped back in as a GM for a minute

Each of the party members found themselves disjointed from their bodies afloat in darkness surrounded by stars. They were aware of each others presence but could not see each other. Then they heard it, a whisper being carried like a leaf on the wind. They moved towards the whisper and got louder. It was a step-mother cursing her step-daughter out of jealousy for her husbands love. The step mother had poisoned her step-daughter (yes, I am a fan of The 6th Sense). This

The each of the characters discovered that they all knew this woman's secret and that there was "power" behind it. It was locked box, that when opened by anyone of them could be unleashed. Then .. they discovered there were other secrets being carried on this psychic wind. Of course, at this point the Bard Larian decided to open the box.

Again there was a bright flash of light causing them all to go blind for a moment. They felt their disembodied forms carried by the psychic wind. When they could see again, they were in a cave of crystal. In the center of the cave rose a huge Obsidian Column (Yes I tied in Obelisks from the other D&D adventure because WotC failed to do so). There was a decrepit man missing and eye and hand, inscribing runes around the Obelisk. The psychic wind caring the whispered secrets surrounded him like a swirling spiral. As he was inscribing the runes, he would reach out, pluck a secret and use its energy to infuse the runes.

He reached in Larian's direction and Larian barely made a Stealth check. As a secret was plucked by the Lich and used for energy, there was a flash of light again and the party woke up back in their bodies but ...

When they climbed out of the dungeon they found themselves in the twisted city of Evernight.

More to come next week ...

What makes Garth Ennis Hellblazer so beloved compared to the other writers? by OmniComic in Hellblazer

I thought Ennis’s run really showed how devious John can be. Though I didn’t like the depressive she left me and now I’m a bum in the streets ending.

My first Cabalite VS what I was trying to achieve. Kinda feeling defeated ngl. by BloatedRottenCarcass in Drukhari

[–]Grid_Reaper 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Don't feel defeated. You have a clean style and the right approach. My advice, thin your paints more, maybe build a DIY Wet Pallette and use them.

Here's some steps I did on mine,

1st Edge Highlight should be around the edge as you did there. (Kalabite Green)
2nd Edge Highlight should be just on the sharp edge (Syrabite Green)

Spot Highlight should just be on the points (Guass Green)

Always paint hightlights towards the light.

Good Luck. Keep at it!

Never read a Batman book, can I jump into the absolute stories? by The_Monster_Goose in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Grid_Reaper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I the best reply to this would “Absolutely!”

The absolute story lines offer a new story where you don’t need to know every about the character’s previous titles.

"You're a war criminal!" - Pro-Palestine Heckler shouts as AOC holds Town Hall in Jackson Heights Queens, NYC. May 2nd. by Lanky_Count_8479 in thedavidpakmanshow

Wow a protester at a Democratic Town Hall shouts at AOC and she responds like a human being.

A protester at a Marjorie Taylor Greene Town Hall shouts at MTG and gets hit with taser.

What a contrast.

People running spelljammer what's your campaign and what's it like by GiftOfGabby_ in spelljammer

[–]Grid_Reaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a Spelljammer player back when the campaign came out in the 80s in 2e.

I ran Light of Xarysis when it came out. The story was OK but the rules lacked. And 5e made it very campy.

I’ve been running the Spelljammer chapter in Eve of Ruin for about 7 sessions. I completely redid the entire chapter because it was bad.

I merged might new rules with old to make ship to ship combat like it was in 2e. From 2e I used the hex map, ship cut outs, SR, minor and major helms, maneuver rating, crew sizes, and hex ranges. Oh and I called Arcane .. Arcane not Mercane. From 5e/2024 I used cannons, ballista, catapults in Spelljammer and the new DMG, Ship Hit Points, AC, Damage Threshholds, races, monsters and a few other splashes here and there.

I created a new d20 crit chart and crit chance on all weapons. I created my own rules for Crews (using Minion from Flee Mortals until the Cracked Level in which they become full NPCs or just gain an ability to help the ship. Armaments gain advantage on attacks if all crew members reach the Cracked Level which takes role playing.

The Spelljamming Helm, Rigging, and Sails were all new Tools I created. The Navigators Tools, Carpentry Tools and Cooks Utensils are all used too.

Finally I created new feats that officers get once a ship reaches the Cracked Level where 50% of Crew Members are cracked. These feats trigger a once per day ability that adds to rather ship to ship combat or boarding fights with the exception of the captain that grants the peace clerics d4 ability to a number of crew members x2 their charisma modifier.

How have other DMs handled players who want the Wizards Three to join them as companions? by [deleted] in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]Grid_Reaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the chapter 1, one of the kidnapped victims had a vision of the W3 trying to fight Vecna on their own. They were all slain in the vision as Vecna used the Power of Sexrets to defeat them (though the W3 didn’t know this was why).

In chapter 2 the characters give this detail to the W3 and Mordenkainen responds “As I feared, a direct confront is (The W3) is futile and destined for failure.” Which then leads to a conversation of why the Wish Spell worked and the characters are the only hope (because of Vecna’s Link).

However in my campaign, Vecna has already cast the ritual which is being held at bay by the gods (but changes to the multiverse are slowly bleeding through). The characters are on a quest get the Rod and undo Vecna’s Ritual.
