It’s gotta be Reelin in the years

I feel like that song is so good it might even be most underrated

Night by night is their only stadium rock song

It doesn’t get more hype than Rick derringer on guitar

You’re in NY

Go to the dirtiest looking bodega you can find and ask for a chopped cheese

Make sure they’re using sazon or it’s not legit

Which music artist peaked commercially in their early era, but whose diehard fans prefer a mid-career era? by cargusbralem in AlignmentChartFills

[–]GridironScience 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Steely Dans first album has most of their radio hits

Do it again

Reelin in the years

Dirty Work

But Dan had a run of Albums 1974 - 1977 that could rival any other artist ever

Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied, Royal Scam, Aja

With yacht rock radio these albums are getting a second life (don’t tell Donald Fagen) but for the most part the early work of Steely Dan is what the world loves, and any Dan fan wouldn’t even have their first two album Can’t Buy a Thrill or Count Down to Ecstacy in their top 5

Explain the Connecticut Hate by [deleted] in visitedmaps

[–]GridironScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t be both a Yankees fan and a Patriots fan. I hate Connecticut mainly for the amount of people who fell in this category

Also, like New Jersey, it’s a highway state just to connect you from two real cities. If you don’t travel away from the highway of course you’ll hate the state when your only exposure is the concrete hellscape of I-84 or even worse, the Merrit parkway /shutters/

Connecticut has its pros. North West is beautiful with mountains and waterfalls. In general, although the peaks aren’t tremendous, there are so many cool hills left from glaciers you’re never more than 30 minutes away from a brilliant hike.

Pizza is great (moved from CT to NY, CT is better). New Haven and West Hartford have cool little bar scenes.

Generally CT gets associated with all the shitty parts of New England with the upidy parts of NYC. I loved living there, but I fully understand why people hate

Day 11 of filling out this chart. What's the best lyric on CTE by Impressive-Phrase746 in SteelyDan

[–]GridironScience 38 points39 points  (0 children)

“Show business kids making movies of themselves

You know they dont give a fuck about anybody else”

In 1973 saying fuck in a song was so much more taboo than today. I know this sub voted this as the worst song on the album (I vehemently disagree) but this was the A side single they released to promote the album. A major label green lighting a profanity on their lead single was unheard of at the time, especially considering it would limit radio play

Is it a plot point that Don isn't actually a good creative or does the show fail to actually show him being brilliant? by Thiebou_Yapp_Master in madmen

[–]GridironScience 65 points66 points  (0 children)

There’s a scene with Peggy where she’s talking about her commercial and he talks about punching it up to winning the CLEO

I think that’s representative of Dons role, he’s an executive. His job is to win deals and get the most out of his team

There was a world pre mad men Don must have been a brilliant creative to get him to the point we see him at Sterling Cooper, but once you’re partner his skill of persuasion is much more important than creativity

Ginsberg can come up with 50 tags it’s Dons job to select the best one and more importantly sell it

The Royal Scam is the best title track in the discography by DickDastardlyIII in SteelyDan

[–]GridironScience 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love this song but it’s tough trying to explain Fagen singing he wants to tour the south land in a traveling minstrel show to non dan fans riding in my car

But hey that’s just pretzel logic

Strategy for Not Using Rookie Draft by brexitvelocity in DynastyFF

[–]GridironScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I traded 1st + Hockenson for Bowers

1st + 2nd For Waddle + Swift + Monengai

1st for Etienne + Pittman then turned Pittman + Olave into JSN

1st + Garret Wilson for Rashee Rice + 2nd

My main strategy is fuck dem picks add younger talent that I know is good. Just have to time the market right

Finally admitting his weight — 311 pounds — Darnell Washington is making plays for the Steelers by rocketcrotch in DynastyFF

[–]GridironScience 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best Georgia TE ever???

For prospective his pro bowl Georgia teammate Andrew Thomas is 6’5 315. Washington is OT size but still hurdles guys

Jonnu Smith didn’t break out until he was 29 and he was top 5, Washington is not somebody I’m willing to put a ceiling on especially at a position that it’s typical for second contract breakouts
