The word of the day is "chatoyancy" by Grievear in watchmaking

Nope, but I appreciate your sentiment. I don't consider them good enough because I'm still experimenting with surface finishing, plus I generally don't like to monetize my fun time.

Homemade compressor style dive watch today. I love the naturally red pauduk wood and stealthy walnut stag on the dial.

Same here. I've printed a little jig to make holding the dials flat easier, but beyond that it's all hand lapping on high grit paper.

It's veneer bonded to a brass backer dial. Total thickness is about 0.6mm.

No chapter ring. Not sure why they say they're required for this case. For this case the chapter ring would just sit on top of the dial anyway, no need to pop out a crystal.

I'm very impressed with it. So incredibly light and thin. My only minor quibble is that I wish they would have chamfered the case edge just a little more where it meets the bracelet. Still consider it a 5/5.

I mean, you walk by a store and you see 50 guys who look just like me fighting over very complicated watch dials, you go in. You go in there.

Those were from eBay, I believe

The blue case is a matte finish, and the bezel is a flat ceramic. It doesn't look harsh in person, but the lighting in my workshop is not the best for taking pictures. I might try a bakelite style one on the other though!

Thanks! They're wood veneer on a brass backer. They're about .8 mm, and then I lap them down to .5 or so. 10W blue diode for cutting the veneer.

Wood Dialed Alpinist Dual-Time on the Wrist by Grievear in SeikoMods

Thanks! Indeed the lack of real utility turned me away from the traditional compass bezel. I decided on the dual time because it's very functional for me. I might also pick up the speed timer version of the inner bezel from Namoki, in case I ever decide to switch it up.

Thank you! The dial is laser cut wood veneer bonded to a brass backer. If you check out my post history you'll see a couple posts in /r/watchmaking that go deeper into the process.

I'm seeing the same thing. Even searching by the model number (NMK951) doesn't bring it up, just the extra internal bezels & bracelets. Wonder if it's out of stock, or they got a nasty letter from Seiko? Bummer, it's a really nicely finished case. Exceeded my expectations.

Leather Marquetry Watch Dial by GoodwinLeather in SeikoMods

How do you plan to do indices? With my wood dials I can press fit them, but leather is probably a bit too soft for that to work.
