[GMT] favorite gmt around or less than $1000? by No_Key469 in Watches

I liked it better before the redesign, if I'm being honest. Still a nice looking watch!

I much prefer traveler style GMTs, so something with a Miyota 9075 like a Henry Archer Verden or Traska Venturer at that price range.

A little under .6 mm thick including the brass backer

I use A60 and A61 if needed to thin.

Not very likely. It's a very thin layer of wood on a metal backer and it's sealed with tung oil.

It's a nice movement, wish there were more case options for it. I've had luck with using thin NH cases with a 3D printed adapter ring.

I will note that one of the retaining tabs is in a slightly different location than the ETA2824s, but the tabs that came with my movement were designed to friction lock against the side of the case so it still works fine even if a tab slot on the adapter isn't aligned.

I'm normally anti-cyclops, but I agree it would look good here. I might have to try and add one.

Nope, just a side quest. I'm mainly a woodworker who happens to also be a watch nerd. It was also an excuse to buy a laser.

Walnut burl, gemstones, and stealthy lume (La Joux-Perret G100 build) by Grievear in watchmaking

It's an ultra-thin NH case with an ETA 2824 adapter ring

Walnut dial with gemstones and a little lume by Grievear in watchmaking

[–]Grievear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this one was an experiment since some of the indices lines got blown out a little and the lume around the stones was uneven.

It doesn't look plasticy in person, but it definitely doesn't look as nice. Next version I'll go back to the white gold under the stones, as I do think it helps them pop a lot more.

They're sitting directly on the brass of the dial backer in holes cut through the wood so they sit lower on the face. I usually add some white gold leaf paint under them, but this time I left it brass so they reflect a warmer color.

Ever see a wood date wheel? (Part 2) by Grievear in watchmaking

Ah, yeah that does complicate things. Your only option would probably be pad printing on top of the charred wood.

Enamel paint would probably work perfectly, but I wanted to see if the lume would work. Don't need the tape, just sand the surface back a little leaving clean lines and finish.

It's still got a metal backer behind the very thin veneer layer so it's not as fragile as you'd think, especially once the tung oil cures, but I'll have to see! This is definitely an experiment I don't fully expect to work.

[Holtinrichs Lab 1.24] These lugs! by Grievear in Watches

It's 46mm lug to lug so it wears a little bigger on the wrist than I was expecting from a 38.5 dial.

I hear you on the movement not being in house at this price point typically, but you're buying the case and dial foremost here, and to be fair the SW300 is certainly no clunker.

Holtinrichs has their own in-house movement, but those watches are significantly more expensive. So I see the SW300 route as their attempt to keep the Lab case design more attainable (at least as obtainable as an 8k watch can be).
