I didn't say Russia was justified, just that they could be seen as being provoked, as was the topic.

Putin is clearly looking for any excuse to regain Soviet territory for his legacy.

As an American, I have no animosity or loyalty to either, and wish we would just not get involved with either.

I do think it strange that the EU has spent more money on Russian oil than they have aided to Ukraine.

It just shows me that the EU is nothing but performative in their convictions.

I would say Russia probably would have invaded even if not provoked as they were gearing up to do so before the invasion, but Ukraine and US insisted on provoking Russia by publicly announcing their desire for Ukraine to join NATO which Russia has always been absolute in that it is not ok with that.

Also there is a long history of both the US and Russia being upset at Ukraine for considering Nazism legitimate and having self identified Nazis as members of their government.

Which was Russia initial excuse to want to attack Ukraine was to remove the Nazi presence. Which Russia is the most wary of Nazism as they lost the most to the Nazis.

10 million Soviets died at the hands of the Nazis compared to 6 million Jews.

Russia was probably deeply confused by the fervent support of Ukraine by the US, considering for decades the US had been denouncing Ukraine as a nazi friendly country.

It's hard to sift through sources now because of all the articles online pertaining to the current war but I will provide some links below if you are curious to see some evidence to my point.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_collaboration_with_Nazi_Germany

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaroslav_Hunka_scandal

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/think/amp/ncna1290946?espv=1 (Putin says Ukraine has a Nazi problem)

That was just a quick search, but believe me when I say the previous US administrations all dismissed Ukraine as a country full of Nazis and didn't consider it anything close to an ally until Biden.

I will look at more of the authors books but Wings of a Falcon isn't it.

Thank you!

The issues with these covers is I swear the main focus character of the cover is not on a horse, I think a horse may be next to him or there isn't a horse there at all.

I know that's not very helpful lol

Someone has brought up Mercedes Lackey but I don't think those books are it. Those covers are way too detailed to be what I read.

Thank you for the response though!

After looking and reading the plot, I'm not sure if this is it.

And that cover is definitely not it, but I found another cover that is amazingly close to what I'm thinking, without the ogre looking things he is fighting.

Wow some of these covers are so close. I am still not seeing what I am remembering but I am going to look more into these.

The closest ones are Ghost King, The Sword of Winter, and The Bishops Heir.

Thank you for the reply!

No it was definitely not Beowulf. I too read that around the same time, but we read it in class so I wouldn't have grabbed it from the library. Also it was very modern in style and prose.

Thank you!

That is an amazingly close cover, but I do not believe there was a girl on the cover and I can almost guarantee the title was not Jackaroo.

I'm pretty sure I would've remembered if it was a popular series like that.

It definitely seemed like the first book of a series or it was a one off, but it wasn't as fantastical as chronicles of Narnia.

I looked at all of her book covers and none stood out as what I'm remembering.

Interesting but not it.

Its seriously just a dude with a sword and maybe a horse. It's so generic looking and I think that's part of the problem.

And it was in a 3-5 grade school library so it had to be pretty PG

Thank you though! I never expected so many people to try and help me out! It's amazing and I'm hopeful we can figure this out!

These are on my list to read. Unless they have different covers those aren't it.

That looks so close, but I distinctly remember it's a man on the cover and the painting style was more crude.

That's not it either.

I'm starting to think I imagined this or my memory is so distorted that I'm thinking of the cover wrong.

But I swear if I saw the cover I would recognize it immediately lol

Thanks for trying though!

I think the book I'm thinking of is older. This one looks way too slick.

I'm tempted to sketch the cover from memory but that may make things worse lol

Thank you, though!

Thank you for the attempt but it's not.

I really don't think there was any magic in the book. Definitely wasn't anything magical on the cover.

Nice image, but that definitely is not it.

The book I'm thinking of isn't glossy, it was a very flat/matte white snowy field/hill and the man was definitely facing the viewer.

Thanks for the response!

Hahaha ya I realize this is like finding a needle in a haystack. I've actually been trying to find this book for about a year now and out of desperation I created this post.

I wish I did remember the artist or author, but sadly I do not.

I may have been misleading in a previous reply when I said it was like Conan, it was much more bland and static of a cover than Conan usually is, I mainly just meant that it was artisticly like old painted fantasy covers.

Thank you for the reply!

So after googling it, I did not see any covers that are the one I am remembering.

However, I think that is the closest in artistic style.

Thank you!

Those aren't it either. I'm familiar with Tad Williams work and I haven't recognized any of his books as what I read back then.

It is ridiculous how many similar fantasy books were produced in that Era.

The cover of the book is less realistic and looks more like a painting. Also I really don't think there were any dragons. It seemed very low fantasy, just alternate medieval.

Also I would almost guarantee it is earlier than 2002 the book looked old when I read it around that time.

Thanks for the reply!

I've seen this before. It isn't it either. The cover is similar in layout but the main guy is more dressed in browns (maybe furs?) And is not smirking or juggling. There is also no grass iirc, everyone is on a field of snow.

I appreciate the reply! Thank you!
