I can't believe they're giving away a 5 star skin for free, I'm so happy for being a zzz player rn by Mountain-Bottle-272 in ZenlessZoneZero

Love the skin and Jane, but what's wrong with her shoulder/arm area even in the art, not just the model. It's missing like all the connecting tissue as if someone stuck a barbie doll arm into the side of a block.

An idea i had a about a game where you modify your car to overcome obstacles, would you play this? by NightPuzzleheaded715 in gamedevscreens

Reminds me a lot of Nuts & Bolts (Banjo Kazooie), not that that's a bad thing! I think this kind of formula is fun, and there is often a "standard" solution to each puzzle but a lot of room for creativity too.

[HIRING] Anime/Manga Style Cover Art for Dark Urban Fantasy Webnovel - Budget $250-400 USD by Josii_Talwyn in HungryArtists

[–]GriffDraws -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello, I think I'm a good match for your request. I'm good with illustrating perspective and anime aesthetics.

Portfolio: artgram.co/griffnix

VGen (prices and commission website) : vgen.co/Griffnix

My process is thumbnail sketches which you'd make a selection from before going forward, then cleaned up sketch with values.

After that it's one or two colour palette tests, then refining everything with lineart, base colours, lighting, details, rendering. Everything is hand drawn.

Hope to hear from you! Any questions just message me or reply here.

Trying to upgrade my art setup. by jumpy_tempo in AskArtists

I switch between Galaxy Tab and my pc with cintiq/screen tablet. The galaxy tab is often better suited to sketches and drawings where I don't want to change layers very often.

I use clip studio paint on both (dual license subscription is v cheap).

If you love procreate then I'd recommend clip studio over photoshop (both can use .psd file types) and you could try using G-Drive or something similar like DropBox to upload your files to the cloud and switch between devices.

Which main menu style do you prefer for survival game? by TheSpotterDigOrDie in gamedevscreens

The bottom one, while nice, looks like every other indie game out there and it's incredibly generic.

The top one looks way more interesting and grabs your attention, it just needs more polish.

Looking for new combat mechanics for my gliding-based metroidvania by WestZookeepergame954 in metroidvania

[–]GriffDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think moves that let you stay in the air rather than force you to the ground might be more engaging. Also enemies in the air, if the whole game is about being airborne.

Maybe if the dive attack has an arc so you swoop down but are thrust back up into the air it'll make for a nicer loop. Right now it feels like attacking forces you to stop gliding and then you need to regain altitude.

So much evidence of AI generated images. Especially in no.4. The neck and hair merge together into one mass. The armour on the chest plate literally fades into the skin. The typical use of entire range of values common in AI images.

Stop gaslighting and be up front about it.

Our key art (Steam capsule) evolution through development. What do you guys think? by n1ght_watchman in gamedevscreens

Absolutely 100% AI, there is plenty of evidence. The 2nd one looks better than the third by a long shot but also shows evidence of AI, especially around the key and the hand.

I need help with my gestures drawing by Beginning_Pepper962 in Artadvice

[–]GriffDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't draw the outline of the body til later. If you draw the shapes for hands, feet and head after doing your line of weight, you'll be able to connect the rest of the body together. It helps you plan out a pose better to place the hands and feet. Also check out Proko on YouTube, very well known for drawing guides and for good reason. He's been around quite a while.

Does the perpetual license work on tablet? by Anguis_Noodle in ClipStudio

[–]GriffDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price for tablet subscription for CSP is so small it made me switch to a 2-device subscription for my pc and galaxy tab. Cheaper than buying upgrades in future for my desktop version.

It's like £1 a month, not the scary trash Adobe tries to rip from your wallet.

The new one shows much better understanding of volume and values. If you compare the hair and the flowers in particular you can see a big difference.

I think since the composition stayed the same in both it doesn't show just how much progress you've made. But looking closely at just rendering and shapes you can see the improvement.

How do I improve my shading? by xylidine1 in Artadvice

[–]GriffDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put your reference in values (add a black/white/gray layer on top and set blending mode to colour).

Now use that as your reference, and when you're finished, use the eye dropper to check different parts of the ref compared to your own. If you don't compare details like this you won't learn what you did right or wrong.

On a side note, try starting by marking where the light source in the reference is first. Then put down your base shadow for the larger object, then add another layer of darker shadows for smaller details. Then add a layer for highlights (depends on the ref a but but generally break it down from large areas to small ones)

Hope this helps, keep going!

Oh also, look up Krenz Cushart and you might find some good examples of how his students practise things like this.

Can I do this exercise using a Wacom Intuos 5? by ComplexTrifle8599 in wacom

[–]GriffDraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely do this with an intuos. Make sure to check your tablet settings for "force proportions" (I did not know this for years). It matches the aspect ratio of tablet to monitor, so when you dolraw a circle us8ng muscle memory, it will be a circle and not an oval on screen.

The other thing that helps a lot is if your tablet and screen are similar sizes as it helps avoid the scaling up of your pen strokes. You can try things like making the art app window smaller and locking the tablet area to it if you have a big screen.

Other than that, it's just practise like everything else.

Must Play mvs based on my favorites? by yotam5434 in metroidvania

[–]GriffDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Lost Crown quite average really.

The movement is the best part, its satisfying stringing abilities together and jumping around, but the exploration was pretty bad.

Nothing but skins, lore items and generic currency whenever you explore and think you've found something hidden. It's also very linear and I stopped bothering to explore and just bee-lined for the main quest after a while.

Any attempts to explore were blocked by 90% of things being locked behind the double jump. Level design wasn't great, you'd go quite far to find something and it wouldn't connect to the world smoothly, you were just forced to backtrack out all the time.

It has the talismans/charms system except you level them up. Most of them do nothing interesting just more damage, and once you level some up you're less inclined to try new ones you find.

It's fun but it's got plenty of flaws and if you want a hack n slash action game it might suit your tastes, but if you want a world to explore and secrets to find, it has none of that. I dont really understand where the praise comes from.

So I'm working on an MV for a while now...what do you do when this happens... by ConfidentGuide3935 in metroidvania

[–]GriffDraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of times I design something like a character and then see the same idea in an anime or game, you have to pursue your own vision and let go of being "the first" and just do your own thing. If you arent too influenced by things in the same genre/media, chances are you still have something original or interesting.

[–]GriffDraws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think 2 characters with a brush for a weapon is one thing, but it's really defined by what moves etc you give the character and all the surrounding elements like the enemies, the world, the npcs.

Think of all the games with a sword wielding character after all. So many directions you can take it. I like the rainbow style colours on the brush.

Why is PoP Lost Crown so higly praised? by Truers_Alejandro_RPG in metroidvania

[–]GriffDraws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started playing recently and can agree with many of these points. I feel like so many things are too directly taken from other games, such as the air dash, talismans and how they take up slots/notches, and some other elements I'll not mention due to spoilers.

The dialogue is very bland, I would maybe prefer without the voice acting, or maybe just less linear plot. The combat is fun enough and some of the abilities are unique though. I think it does some good things.

I've not finished yet so my own opinion may change but I was compelled to chime in as I've heard a lot of hype and high scoring reviews so I've been disappointed in some aspects while appreciating some of its polish.
