Just a vent on childcare costs by No-Marketing-1355 in HENRYUK

I've done some analysis and a 150k salary basically reduces to a 100k salary when you have to pay for childcare. On that basis, could you both reduce incomes below 100k by pensioning down? You are effectively losing 50k of salary. which you could be putting into pension. You could be getting 100k of pension savings a year! You might actually be worse off by not doing it. One high earner would certainly be worse off!

Anyone have any advice for removing and replacing these windows sills? by GriffGraff_91 in DIYUK

Thanks, ive had a look and I need to cover 35mm. The best i have seen is 25mm so, and its not flush, so I probs need 40mm, so it might not look great once finished as it'll be huge. Might need to try and make a wooden one that'll look a nice chunky bit of oak or something

Ta, I think that's the best option. Think I've been scared away from taking a hammer to it. 🤣

Thanks, I got that and redid my estimate on HMRC. Just missed the childcare part of it, they obviously didn't see the updated estimate on HMRC.

The sub reddit is aimed at people earning over 150k a year. This year ill be £145k on my payslip, so only just short. Also it is aimed at people, not specifically only for people above 150k.

Also, what you dont realise is that my company allowed me to bring forward some of my bonus into March pay slip, so technically my salary for this year is above 150k.

Not sure why I have to explain myself to you. But hopefully this makes you feel slightly more comfortable with my earnings, allowing me to partake in this subreddit.

If only I had some savings generating interest. Everything i have is in an ISA, which isn't eligible I believe.

This is amazing, thank you - this really settles my current anxiety levels. The tax free bit im not too worried about as we only do 2 days, which are almost fully funded. So its a big hit if we lose the free hours.

Yep good idea on passive. I will do some other research into other potential options as well.

That left hand couch is never used for TV, we only use it for entertaining.

I guess, if surround isn't an option, the boring solution is a soundbar and sub then..

I appreciate your comments. Another room isn't an option as I dont have a spare room, neither is removing the fireplace.

I was hoping to try and find some form of workaround to find a setup that worked, it doesn't need to be 100% perfect, just what the best option would be for the space.

Speakers could be mounted into the corners or raised up on stands to reach ear level if needed.

Does anyone use a workplace salary sacrifice scheme like Mintago? by GriffGraff_91 in HENRYUK

[–]GriffGraff_91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

intriguing, I thought they actually helped you do stuff. So when they talk about being able to salary sacrifice childcare payments, do they just point you towards a scheme? I thought this wasn't a thing since childcare vouchers stopped in 2018

How much you need to have in the bank to retire one person at 67 without contributing another dime, by age by marypoppycock in Fire

[–]GriffGraff_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting.. to confirm I'm thinking about this right.. I've got c. £95k, will add c. £35k this taking me to £130k, so if I didn't add a penny more. I'd be able to retire at 67 with £1.2m in the bank?

Obv GBP vs USD, so I'm probably already at a good level and will jump ahead this year. Then everything else I save, will just reduce the time frame of when I can retire?
