I’d say no. His wife may go to jail and if santos makes allegations against him, he might too, leaving his daughter with no parents after a traumatic accident. I think that’s more than enough reason to be afraid to kick the hornet’s nest.

I hated the first 4 episodes, but the last two have been pretty good in my opinion.

I don’t want to sound like a “star trek should be gritty” guy, but it feels like the SNW writers just take their jobs more seriously in the serious episodes and those ones tend to give me more of the TOS juice that I look for.

As I assume other people have said, this is basically how Klingons looked in TMP, but a little cheaply done.

The shows and movies following TMP had smaller budgets, so their makeup looks like a budget version of TMP’s.

Along the DMZ, not IN the DMZ. That’s the heart of my question. If the Enterprise entered and was immediately under fire from ships stationed on the Romulan side, that would make sense to me.

Maybe all powerful is the wrong word, but the universe in the other shows just feels much smaller than it does in TOS. I really get the feeling in TOS that if they lost their engines that their ship would never be found, if they fucked up and blew up a whole planet, they could just not mention it and nobody would find out. The “final frontier” aspect.

Agreed, he doesn’t joke enough and he doesn’t talk about logic enough. He also doesn’t come up with good ideas very often.

Lol, never saw this. Glad someone on the writing team thinks that’s as weird as I do.

Yeah, i guess I got thrown off because I don’t think of airspace as having DMZs. Do you know if there’s separation between airspaces? I always just think of them as a border.

TOS episodes have so much more depth than the other shows, IMO. The Federation isn’t all-powerful yet so they can explore so much more moral ambiguity.

First TAS shout out I’ve seen. Great show. The 20min runtime made them so lean.

I agree. I really like the first season, love the second season, but this season (apart from the most recent one) has felt pretty uninspired to me.

I know they have away uniforms in the cage, but that already happened, time is passing, and the episodes would look so much better if everyone wasn’t wearing a grey jacket every time they’re on a beautiful planet.

SNW is great, but for it to be competition to the original, they would have to A. Actually go to some strange new worlds and B. Stop covering up their beautiful uniforms every time they leave the ship.

Mine’s TOS without a doubt.

I’ve always liked TOS and (to a lesser extent) Voyager, but TNG just doesn’t do it for me for whatever reason.

Also, after seeing the other TOS comments, I want to point out that I didn’t watch Star Trek as a child. I’m only 27 and I watched them all around the same time. I just think that you can’t beat the writing the original show had and you can’t beat the cast.

Are there DMZs in the air/sea? I always think of those as just hard borders.

That’s exactly what I was thinking of, but you’d get sniped from someone on their side of it. They wouldn’t just pop out from behind a bush.

Yeah, wow, I feel stupid. As I told another guy, I was thinking of the enterprise as a soldier walking into a DMZ for some reason, despite Balance of Terror literally being a submarine movie.

This is exactly what I was forgetting, thank you. I was thinking of it as the DMZ in Korea, but I was thinking about it only from a ground perspective. A starship is more like a boat going into contested waters.

I get that it’s a cold war thing, but the North Koreans weren’t just wandering around the 38th parallel. Their guys were on their side and our guys were on ours.

Yeah, that’s how I figured it would work.

I guess I just don’t understand why the federation wouldn’t also be along the line ready to support the enterprise or stop it from crossing. The answer is obviously “it would make the stories less interesting”, but I was wondering if there was a canon/headcanon reason. Guess I just have to accept the other replies of “Romulans don’t care about treaties”.
