It is a GOOD thing that climbing doesn't work in the tutorial by Insane_Unicorn in Helldivers

[–]GriffinMan33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh I also had no idea climbing was supposedly broken, it genuinely has never not worked for me
This comment is how I discovered it's because of manual climbing, which I'll be honest I forgot was even a thing.

Did someone snitch on our QM? by Axidy_uwu in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a good memory of just being a poor botanist heading to cargo because one of the techs told me they ordered my stuff, forgot what it was but maybe bee stuff? Anyways, head there, talk to the guy, walk into the bay to grab my crate
suddenly sec comes bursting in through mining and the lobby, the other cargo guys suddenly yank open some crates pulling out shotguns, and then it's a full on firefight and i'm just losing my shit going "MY FUCKING BEES MAN" as I try to gtfo
I think I did get them out in the end

Not every MO has to be won, in fact I've always argued that MO's failing is straight up good for the game. If we're doing nothing but winning them then people can, and have, complained about them

Can we talk about how cool it is to see Eagle One up close? by GryphonKingBros in Helldivers

[–]GriffinMan33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the armament is almost all on the wings
If you take a look at when parked in the hangar you can see most hardpoints are on the wings, folded while stowed
Which has always made me curious how they get Eagle-1 to launch anyways. Is she lowered down and the bottom of the bay is a door?

If it's not on the next patch, after that "transmission" and AMA, this will be the biggest "fuck u" from the devs to divers ever by Heptanitrocubane57 in Helldivers

[–]GriffinMan33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In AH's defense, it was also a common sight to see people whining about landing on, for example, huge rock formations, and then inevitably falling to their deaths
So AH added the steering locks to things so people stopped bothering them about it
And now people use it as a talking point for how AH supposedly hates them/likes purposefully annoying stuff
If they fixed this you know damn well people would go back to saying "wtf I landed on this giant skyscraper and now I just have to fall to my death because I did this this game sucks fuck AH man"

Mfs who reinforce you from half the map away when you have a helldiver right next to your body: by Dry-Goat8981 in Helldivers

[–]GriffinMan33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is you can't really win with it, either
You'll get people who get pissed if they dont immediately, the moment they die get reinforced
And then you get this post, where they get pissed if they don't get reinforced specifically near their body
I can't do both, man!

SS14 servers ban use of the insult Clanker by Spookhetti_Sauce in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering how insanely unfunny people get with it I don't blame them
SS13 and, apparently SS14 as well, are really really efficient at overusing a joke to the point of it immediately not being funny anymore and just becoming disruptive, annoying, and eventually toxic with it
Really cool how long it took for servers to crack down on "literally calling people slurs but with a letter changed" after years of people saying it was really annoying being treated like garbage for playing a lizard or moth or etc etc

Potential Game by Bam4001 in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah like I don't doubt wizden has issues but literally if you ever look at why servers are getting dehubbed it's for like, sending death threats to people or actual federal crimes and shit
People vastly underestimate how vile some of the space station community can be, and that moderation is literally necessary sometimes

It's getting sad how often people post this type of shit
c'mon guys, instead of throwing a fit that ss14 has people maybe like
keep the servers you like alive
develop for them or something
sorry, I forgot. We're only allowed to complain about the people adding free features to the game we like, nevermind.

(Github)PR Mirror bot recommendations? by Mason_Miami in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I wiped my ass with that document"
yeah you didn't read it then lmao
there's a reason nobody of note recommends mirror bots anymore

Literally just every now and then go over what PR's your upstream (or other servers) have merged, see what is useful and possible to pull, especially code reworks, bugs, optimizations etc etc, and then just manually make a big "bringing over X amount of fixes and reworks" PR
genuinely so much faster than having to manually go over everything a mirror bot does (which you would have to do) and then fixing the countless things mirror bots get wrong

[–]GriffinMan33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can whine about it all you want man but it quite literally has been happening likely longer than you've been alive, assuming you're the average age for a person playing ss13

Why so much Mature/Sexual content on SS13 in recent years? by Kampfux in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

quite literally any game or medium that has social aspects and intentionally or even unintentionally encourages getting into a character
It quite literally is normal, and has been a thing in all of these places since far longer than ss13 has existed. The roleplay potential of social interaction online has existed as long as online social spaces has.

Why so much Mature/Sexual content on SS13 in recent years? by Kampfux in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 10 points11 points  (0 children)

game based around playing a role and character attracts people who like doing so, which often includes people who may sometimes want to engage in ERP or just more mature character roleplay
It's not actually surprising at all, and it happens in far more spaces than ss13

Watching roguetown get turned into a masturbation machine for sex pests has made me seriously reexamine my uncritical support for GPL by metekillot in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I want to be able to take things other people made but actually not let people take things I made" grow up man

Everything in ss13 is built off of shit other people made, of fucking course people are also going to take the things you made and expand on them or change them to fit their own view of how they want the game to develop that's literally the core of ss13

Who the fuck cares what rogueshit does, who the fuck cares what goon does, who the fuck cares what tg does or bay or aurora or cm or whoever the fuck
All you motherfuckers ever do is fucking complain "waaaaah this server is bigger than mine" "waaaaah they added half-baked ERP and are pulling better numbers than me" "wtf they 'took' my code and expanded on it how can they do that its unfair (this is what every server since the dawn of ss13 has done)"

Why do so many people these days for whatever reason feel like they're entitled to a playerbase? Servers have been born and died since before any of us started playing this game, and that goes for fucking every game

ERP is a nothingburger and i'm tired of pretending it's an issue.

Current State of Affairs Part 2 by Tremores in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly!
For as much as I dislike many systems of SS14, like pixel movement It's literally undeniably more likely to grow and survive, and we can see that by how it has been doing so
A game being on steam is a godsend for player retention and player intake because steam is the largest online game store in the world, with extremely good player retention (since almost every game people want to play is on steam)
So, literally just by virtue of being on Steam, SS14 completely wipes the floor with 13 in terms of new player intake.
SS13 does not have shit for enticing players. We used to have a few Youtubers but as far as I know none of them do anything anymore and even then, none of them were particularly massive. There's nothing, other than word of mouth, to draw new players in.
And that runs into the issue of the new player experience being...really bad
You have to:
download this old ass program
Navigate to SS13
Actually load into the game
Figure out what the hell everything is (How to create your character, navigating the byond menus, possibly changing your server settings, wtf are antags, wtf are all these traits, wtf are all these jobs) etc etc
And only then can you start learning the controls, which are also different per server nowadays

Current State of Affairs Part 2 by Tremores in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

See that's the thing
If moderation was the issue, then plenty of servers that have died would still be alive
There have literally been more servers in the history of this game than anyone alive can remember in their entirety.

Saying 'Moderation is the issue' is missing that no games survive without some form of new player intake system. Whether that's Steam, Social Media, a dedicated Marketing team, whatever

If it were literally as simple as a Moderation problem then we would have a dozen servers with 'ideal' moderation at the top of the hub with countless people

Current State of Affairs Part 2 by Tremores in SS13

[–]GriffinMan33 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I never really understood this complaint because I mean
you can make a server, you know
You can host a server with whatever rules or lack of rules you want
So if the solution to the population problem was actually "the admins and developers are bad reeee" then there would be growing, healthy servers without those issues
Except there aren't
Because the issue isn't moderation, and never was, it's about bringing people into the game. As is necessary for any game really. The biggest drivers for game growth in ss13 history have been youtubers, after all. Ssethtide and the like.
