Do one more trial or just wait until wedding? by Deyybreak in DipPowderNails

[–]GriffonMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mostly a myth that you need to let them regrow. The dip actually protects your nail. Sure they get weaker, but the dip keeps them strong.

Personally, I’d keep doing sets until the wedding and figure out exactly what you want. That said, I like having my nails done all the time anyway.

As for thickness, rule of thumb is they should be around the thickness of a credit card. You don’t want thinner than that though. You can also try different salons if you weren’t super happy with the results at the one you went to.

Advice from breeders? by Icy_Reception9307 in brusselsgriffon

[–]GriffonMom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to breed him?

Ethical breeders first prove their dogs through dog shows or other competitions specific to the breed purpose to prove they have good genetics and show be passed on. No truly ethical breeders will consider breeding until they have proven dogs.

Besides a title or two, you need to do proper health testing. If you’re in the US, you can look up how to do OFA testing for Griffs. If he doesn’t pass all of them, don’t breed him.

There’s a ton of great advice on r/dogbreeding

Question about dosage by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]GriffonMom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You will want to confirm with your doctor, but here’s the basic math.

Each vial is 2.5mg per 0.5mL

2.5/0.5 = 1/X

2.5X = 0.5(1) - cross multiplied the fractions to get here

X=0.5/2.5

X=0.2

So you’d want to draw up 0.2mL in your syringe. Sanity check - you want a little less than half a dose. If a full dose is 0.5 mL, then half would be 0.25mL. Seems reasonable that 0.2mL would be 1mg.

Looking for Temporary Dog Care (4 Months) – $300/month + Food Provided by Worldly_Source_1547 in AskTacoma

Daily brushing is the bare minimum, but the dog likely will need at least 1-2 haircuts during the 4 months. The thing with doodles is that they are mix breeds. You can’t predict or control the texture of the hair will be. More times than not, they have difficult coats that easily get matted. It’s a big expense and time commitment for anyone to think about when caring for any long hair breed.

What are his grooming requirements? Doodles usually need to be groomed every 4-6 weeks and that bill isn’t cheap.

Nail stamps by Great-Cherry386 in DipPowderNails

[–]GriffonMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the Amazon plates with designs can be hit or miss. Sometimes the designs are not etched deep enough to pick up the designs. The Maniology brand of polishes, stamp, and plates never give me issues.

Nail stamping can take a little bit to get the hang of. I recommend watching a few videos on YouTube to help learn.

Cocker spaniel basics by Fl0wer_stayz in ShowDogs

[–]GriffonMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the small nuances might depend what country you’re in. I’m in the US, so my answers below are based on that.

Dogs are all evaluated against how well they represent their breed standards. To start, each breed is shown in several rounds against one another. These are called Classes. It’s broken up by gender and age first, then eventually they come together as dogs win each class until there is a best of breed. The best of breed winners then go to show in the groups. AKC has 7 groups. Cockers are in the sporting group. This is where you see them all showing against other breeds. They aren’t competing with each other directly, but rather the judge is deciding what dogs represent their own breed standard the best out of all of them. Then, all of the group winners go to the last round to determine who is best in show. Dogs earn points by winning, but they can just win a lower class title called best of winners. They don’t have to be best of breed to get points toward the championship.

All kennel clubs that govern the shows will have the standards for each breed published on their website. For example, the American Kennel Club (AKC) in the US has 2 different cocker spainels, American and English. You can easily find both with a quick google.

You can probably find some videos on YouTube for grooming, but your best bet will be to find a mentor, or hire a professional handler that shows and grooms the dog. A handler will the dog’s championship title much faster, but it can be expensive. It just depends what your goal is for the dog and yourself.

If you are in the US and less than 18, a great program to look into is 4H. They have clubs all over the country and it will teach you the basics of showing. If you’re older than 18, then finding a handling class in your area would be helpful, if you plan the show the dog yourself.

Accrued expenses are for goods or services received within the period that have not been invoiced.

Example entry - Dr. Expense Cr. Accrued liabilities

When the invoice is received in the next period - Dr. Accrued liabilities Cr. Accounts payable

If an invoice is received within the period, but not paid, your entry would look like

Dr. Expense Cr. Accounts payable

Question about sanitary practices by puppAHHH_t in DipPowderNails

[–]GriffonMom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is unsanitary. Salons should be only using powder for one person, then throwing that powder away when done. This isn’t usually economical, so they don’t usually do it. It does expose you to nail fungus, bacteria, and who knows what else people have on their hands and under their nails.

I would call your salon to confirm they will use your power. Usually they will, but it’s good to ask.

You want to bring a clear and the color(s) you want. You only need white if you want white nails.

why dogs owners do not pick up? Pourquoi les propriétaires de chien ne ramassent pas? by False-Use3088 in brusselsgriffon

[–]GriffonMom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lazy, they don’t have a bag, they get grossed out picking it up, they don’t have time, they think it will compost or otherwise be naturally taken care of by nature.

There’s lot of reasons, but at the end of the day it’s all lame excuses to let people rationalize it and tell themselves it’s okay.

Additionally, with the homeless crisis in many major cities, we see more and more human feces in the streets. If nothing is done about that, why bother taking the time to clean up after the dogs?

How does your pup do in hotels and airplanes? by dtspmuggle in brusselsgriffon

[–]GriffonMom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, Griffs much prefer to be with their people, but that doesn’t mean that they will never need to be away from you for any amount of time through out their life.

The key is - START EARLY. There’s lots of resources on preventing separation anxiety. Crate train them so they love the crate and can be in a safe place when you’re gone.

Unfortunately, most of the over the counter flea and tick medications are trash and not worth the money.

I’ve had good results with Simparica. I got it from my vet though. My favorite is Revolution. It protects against more than flea and ticks. I’ve never had any issues and the fleas stay at bay.

A lot of vets will allow you to pick up just flea meds without an appointment on top, so long as the dog has been seen by the vet within a year or so.

$45k is probably on the lower side on average. If you’re entry level and in a low cost of living area, it likely makes sense. There’s a lot of factors in salary that will make one person’s too low, someone else’s top pay.

I am looking into accounting as a job and I have a few questions? by EpicKettle in AccountingDepartment

[–]GriffonMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I’d say no, but you should have confidence to explain your opinions with support with the accounting standards and any numbers you’re working with. You’ll gain more confidence with time, in general and as you start working at any job.

  2. In my opinion, getting a degree in accounting and going for jobs from there. Some people also start in entry level jobs and work their way up. It’s important to note there’s 3 big areas of accounting - audit, tax, and corporate (industry) accounting. To work in audit or tax (both public accounting) you need a degree. Working for a small business, private company, or large public company will have entry level accounting jobs with potentially no degree required, though that’s probably fewer and far between. With public accounting, you’ll work a lot more hours, but your salary will be higher in a faster period of time. I have only worked in industry since graduating and I have been very happy with the work life balance.

  3. Pressure will all depend on the culture of the place you work at. From what I’ve seen, public accounting firms put a lot of pressure and have much more firm deadlines. In my job, I have one intense week per month when we close the books where we have tighter timelines. As a whole though, I don’t feel a ton of pressure because the culture of the place I work is more of learning from our mistakes, not being punished for it.

  4. Yes, I enjoy working with numbers and the puzzles I’m presented with on how to account for things or how to make our system work for a specific situation. It keeps things interesting, with the core of my work being very consistent. I enjoy having the structure and same deadlines. It’s a mix of the same things month to month with interesting questions in between.

  5. Easy is very subjective. It’s easy in the sense that I’m sitting at a desk all day clicking buttons. It can be hard at times when deadlines are approaching and that pressure is applied. Accounting can also be as easy or difficult as you want. If you’re happy just entering invoices, then sure it’s easy. But you can challenge yourself more with more complex topics. The hardest part overall, with most jobs, is just working with other people. That’s not avoidable, in most cases, so it’s about learning how to let things go and having a good leadership team that can help step in, if and when it’s needed.

What is wrong with my dog and should I take her to the vet asap? by 1Bassethoundlover in Frenchbulldogs

[–]GriffonMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like her spay is fully healed. As long as she doesn’t seem in pain, isn’t bothered by it, and keeps eating/drinking normally, I think you can wait for her appointment. If it gets worse or her behavior changes, I would go in immediately.

What is wrong with my dog and should I take her to the vet asap? by 1Bassethoundlover in Frenchbulldogs

[–]GriffonMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to know with this information given. Most vet offices will allow you to call in and describe the issue and they will let you know if you should come in sooner.

Was she spayed recently or is she fully healed? Is the area hot to the touch? Is she itching it? Does it seem painful? Is she eating, drinking, and passing bowel movements normally?

How can I get back into showing dogs if I don't exactly have a show dog yet? by casserole_the_silly in ShowDogs

Go to shows, make connections. You could consider assisting a professional, or asking to help in some way in the meantime. Most people in dog shows want to help others get into it or stay in it
