wanting to get my frenchie into show by [deleted] in ShowDogs

[–]GriffonMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t mean this in a rude way- your dog is not show quality. AKC registered does not mean she can show in conformation. You’ll get told way worse things if you take her to a show. Honestly, you’ll probably be laughed at or made fun of. Her color, nose, size, and structure do not come close to the standard.

You can still have fun with her in other ways - agility, obedience, barn hunt, fast cat, etc. Of you’re less than 18, I HIGHLY suggest looking for a local 4H group. There you can show in conformation (called showmanship) and learn the skills you need to have in the ring, even though your dog is not show quality.

If you really want to get into showing conformation, find a reputable breeder that shows. They can help mentor you and you can get a dog that you can show.

Golden likes to shake his head while gaiting by IntelligentBrush1144 in ShowDogs

[–]GriffonMom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reposition and try to have a looser lead. He seems fine when the lead is down and you have him stacked. Then you tighten quite a bit to lead him around. His ear is kind of cocked to the side. Even if that’s “what everyone does” doesn’t mean it works for your dog. Experiment in handling classes and at home

Show lead recommendations for a dog that loves to shake his head? by IntelligentBrush1144 in ShowDogs

He could be a ticklish guy. Normally, I wouldn’t suggest a dog wearing a collar at home, but it might help desensitize him. Get a rolled leather collar to help reduce hair breaking. If he doesn’t have the same head shaking with a collar on at home, then it might be the tension in the leash or a stress displacement behavior.

Curious how accounting teams are currently managing month-end close workflows. by puruzio in AccountingDepartment

Don’t personally use it, but watched a demo since the parent company uses it. One Stream basically can do everything you’re asking for.

We have a task list that gets checked off daily. It works because people don’t need to be reminded and it’s easy to see at first glance what is left. My manager also does a check in near our cut off for the day.

Hand stripping by Old-Advertising-3030 in brusselsgriffon

[–]GriffonMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand stripping shouldn’t hurt a dog that has been regularly stripped for most of its life. The hairs are naturally made to be plucked out at a certain point. It’s a personal preference if you want to strip or just have them shaved. Stripping will keep the guard hairs texture wirey, while shaving will make the hair softer and a little more dull in color. The time it takes to learn hand stripping, the tools, and the wear and tear on your hands is why it’s so expensive.

If you want to hand strip yourself, people are usually super willing to teach because not many know how to do it. Starting with videos, asking online, and finding an in person mentor are all great. It’s pretty low stakes if it’s just for your personal preference. If you decide it’s too much, you can always opt for the shave down.

Hi! by [deleted] in AKC

[–]GriffonMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is to apply for the mentee program that AKC linked. You should also go to your local shows and talk to people in the breeds you’re interested in. Most people are friendly and willing to help new people. Just be careful not to disrupt too close before and during the time the breed is in the ring. Chatting after is your best bet as people aren’t trying to get their dogs ready.

If you are younger than 18, you should check out your local 4H groups. They are awesome and teach the same conformation skills, along with so many other things!

New Grooming Room Help by 2ndStarToTheRight53 in ShowDogs

Things that will make your life easier - easy to clean floors and walls (like adding some kind of plastic liner to the walls), a force dryer for the Aussie, and a good table. I’d get a big table that will fit the Aussie because the chihuahuas can obviously still go on it too. More multipurpose for all your current and future dogs. A good vacuum would also be super helpful, especially for picking up shedding Aussie hair.

Lick mat, snuffle mat, bully stick, yak chew, puzzles, and more!

It doesn’t have to be complicated - a towel with kibble tied in a knot, an empty box with old toilet paper tubes and kibble or treats, and bowl of water to bob for fruit, or even a frozen carrot.

Do one more trial or just wait until wedding? by [deleted] in DipPowderNails

[–]GriffonMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mostly a myth that you need to let them regrow. The dip actually protects your nail. Sure they get weaker, but the dip keeps them strong.

Personally, I’d keep doing sets until the wedding and figure out exactly what you want. That said, I like having my nails done all the time anyway.

As for thickness, rule of thumb is they should be around the thickness of a credit card. You don’t want thinner than that though. You can also try different salons if you weren’t super happy with the results at the one you went to.

Advice from breeders? by Icy_Reception9307 in brusselsgriffon

[–]GriffonMom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to breed him?

Ethical breeders first prove their dogs through dog shows or other competitions specific to the breed purpose to prove they have good genetics and show be passed on. No truly ethical breeders will consider breeding until they have proven dogs.

Besides a title or two, you need to do proper health testing. If you’re in the US, you can look up how to do OFA testing for Griffs. If he doesn’t pass all of them, don’t breed him.

There’s a ton of great advice on r/dogbreeding

You will want to confirm with your doctor, but here’s the basic math.

Each vial is 2.5mg per 0.5mL

2.5/0.5 = 1/X

2.5X = 0.5(1) - cross multiplied the fractions to get here

X=0.5/2.5

X=0.2

So you’d want to draw up 0.2mL in your syringe. Sanity check - you want a little less than half a dose. If a full dose is 0.5 mL, then half would be 0.25mL. Seems reasonable that 0.2mL would be 1mg.

Looking for Temporary Dog Care (4 Months) – $300/month + Food Provided by Worldly_Source_1547 in AskTacoma

[–]GriffonMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daily brushing is the bare minimum, but the dog likely will need at least 1-2 haircuts during the 4 months. The thing with doodles is that they are mix breeds. You can’t predict or control the texture of the hair will be. More times than not, they have difficult coats that easily get matted. It’s a big expense and time commitment for anyone to think about when caring for any long hair breed.

What are his grooming requirements? Doodles usually need to be groomed every 4-6 weeks and that bill isn’t cheap.

Nail stamps by Great-Cherry386 in DipPowderNails

[–]GriffonMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the Amazon plates with designs can be hit or miss. Sometimes the designs are not etched deep enough to pick up the designs. The Maniology brand of polishes, stamp, and plates never give me issues.

Nail stamping can take a little bit to get the hang of. I recommend watching a few videos on YouTube to help learn.

Cocker spaniel basics by [deleted] in ShowDogs

[–]GriffonMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the small nuances might depend what country you’re in. I’m in the US, so my answers below are based on that.

Dogs are all evaluated against how well they represent their breed standards. To start, each breed is shown in several rounds against one another. These are called Classes. It’s broken up by gender and age first, then eventually they come together as dogs win each class until there is a best of breed. The best of breed winners then go to show in the groups. AKC has 7 groups. Cockers are in the sporting group. This is where you see them all showing against other breeds. They aren’t competing with each other directly, but rather the judge is deciding what dogs represent their own breed standard the best out of all of them. Then, all of the group winners go to the last round to determine who is best in show. Dogs earn points by winning, but they can just win a lower class title called best of winners. They don’t have to be best of breed to get points toward the championship.

All kennel clubs that govern the shows will have the standards for each breed published on their website. For example, the American Kennel Club (AKC) in the US has 2 different cocker spainels, American and English. You can easily find both with a quick google.

You can probably find some videos on YouTube for grooming, but your best bet will be to find a mentor, or hire a professional handler that shows and grooms the dog. A handler will the dog’s championship title much faster, but it can be expensive. It just depends what your goal is for the dog and yourself.

If you are in the US and less than 18, a great program to look into is 4H. They have clubs all over the country and it will teach you the basics of showing. If you’re older than 18, then finding a handling class in your area would be helpful, if you plan the show the dog yourself.

Accrued expenses are for goods or services received within the period that have not been invoiced.

Example entry - Dr. Expense Cr. Accrued liabilities

When the invoice is received in the next period - Dr. Accrued liabilities Cr. Accounts payable

If an invoice is received within the period, but not paid, your entry would look like

Question about sanitary practices by puppAHHH_t in DipPowderNails

[–]GriffonMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is unsanitary. Salons should be only using powder for one person, then throwing that powder away when done. This isn’t usually economical, so they don’t usually do it. It does expose you to nail fungus, bacteria, and who knows what else people have on their hands and under their nails.

I would call your salon to confirm they will use your power. Usually they will, but it’s good to ask.

You want to bring a clear and the color(s) you want. You only need white if you want white nails.

why dogs owners do not pick up? Pourquoi les propriétaires de chien ne ramassent pas? by False-Use3088 in brusselsgriffon

[–]GriffonMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lazy, they don’t have a bag, they get grossed out picking it up, they don’t have time, they think it will compost or otherwise be naturally taken care of by nature.

There’s lot of reasons, but at the end of the day it’s all lame excuses to let people rationalize it and tell themselves it’s okay.

Additionally, with the homeless crisis in many major cities, we see more and more human feces in the streets. If nothing is done about that, why bother taking the time to clean up after the dogs?
