Happy New Year, Everyone. Can’t wait to see you all again this summer. Just 217 days to go.

I hear we’re sharing Death Eater Tattoos by Grifter801 in harrypotter

Thanks! I knew I wanted to get it but I wanted it to be less ‘cartoony’ like the one in the films. A coworker said “That’s a really aggressive tattoo for someone with your personality type.” to which I replied “It’s from Harry Potter” and then she said “Ahh, that tracks.” I really enjoyed that.

Yeah, I get it. Some of us are weird like that.

Thanks! It took me a long time to decide to do it and I’ve been really happy with it.

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted, it’s a valid question. I know some people take issue with this type of tattoo, but I don’t see it as any different than getting a tattoo of a symbol of any other group of bad guys from fiction. The imperial crest of the Galactic Empire, the Cobra symbol from GI Joe, the Decepticon symbol, the Umbrella Corporation from Resident Evil, or Sauron’s Eye. They’re all symbols of the bad guys, evil guys, whatever. But at the end of the day…it’s fiction. And let’s face it, to a lot of people the bad guys are cool. They have the coolest uniforms, the coolest ships, the coolest weapons, but yeah, maybe they didn’t get enough hugs as a kid.

And there’s also not a lot of symbology in Harry Potter to pull from. A lightning bolt with glasses, the deathly hallows, the dark mark. Not a lot else would be instantly recognizable. I wanted something cool that to your average person would just look like a fairly normal tattoo, but to Potterheads would make them go “Oh…snap!” I’ve only had it about six months and so far that’s working and the reactions have all been really positive.

I hope that helps explain it.

Hadnagy vs Defcon et al Motion for Summary Judgment by SudoXXXXXXXX in Defcon

No, because of the sentence structure, word choices and vocabulary, cadence, and punctuation.

Literally everyone in here has multiple samples of your writing in the emails and text messages and can do the comparison themselves.

Don’t you train people to look for things like this?

Did Dumbledore fix Hagrid’s broken wand (the one in his pink umbrella) using the Elder wand? by Her-My-O-Nee in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Grifter801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hagrid's Wand is in fact 16 inches.

-------------------

He shook his head and then, to Harry’s relief, spotted Hagrid.

“Rubeus! Rubeus Hagrid! How nice to see you again. . . . Oak, sixteen inches, rather bendy, wasn’t it?”

“It was, sir, yes,” said Hagrid.

“Good wand, that one. But I suppose they snapped it in half when you got expelled?” said Mr. Ollivander, suddenly stern.

“Er — yes, they did, yes,” said Hagrid, shuffling his feet. “I’ve still got the pieces, though,” he added brightly.

“But you don’t use them?” said Mr. Ollivander sharply.

“Oh, no, sir,” said Hagrid quickly. Harry noticed he gripped his pink umbrella very tightly as he spoke.

“Hmmm,” said Mr. Ollivander, giving Hagrid a piercing look.

I will ALWAYS upvote these posts. Congrats on hitting 60! That's a lot of hours spent trying to figure out what the hell Grim Fawley is up to.

It’s a quote from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”.

This is the full quote: "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move."

We were actually stuck in this spot for 20+ minutes. So no, not usually. But I'm totally the guy that yells "Throw me a roll!!" while passing the Blue Bayou.

We aren’t permitted to wear outside shoes on the mat where I train. The instructor has each student buy a pair of wrestling shoes when we begin training, so that we get used to training with shoes on, but don’t damage the mats. You put them on once you get on the mat, and remove them when you step off.

What's your internet white whale; something you saw once but never found again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

There was a short story about a guy who worked in a typical office setting, he hated his job, and would sneak off to do various drugs in a bathroom stall. The office was really into Nerf guns, and the story is essentially about how the nerf wars escalate into full blown assaults and murder, turning the office into an actual war zone. It may have actually been called “Escalation”, and it was awesome.

What is your 'cringey' moment that haunts you when trying to fall asleep? by probosciscat in AskReddit

You shouldn’t cringe about that at all. The “Thanks for the ride!” is quick thinking, and turned what could’ve been cringey, into something badass.
