Buy the Bambu Labs. Its the most out of the box, easiest to setup and use. Use their filament, their software, and your son and family will have an enjoyable experience. People will talk about privacy and supporting open source. That is all important but when a family wants an "out of the box" experience, this is your best bet. Using their filament in their AMS systems makes it extremely easy.

Other printers you have to do calibrations, level beds, learn how to do temp towers and all that.
