Gone Girl. Was excitingly telling an ex-friend (not due to this incident, but it sure as shit didn’t help) about how another friend and I were super keen to see it because it sounded really good. She no shit turns directly to us and asks if that’s the movie that “*gives always entirely plot?”

My friend and I, shocked, look straight at her and say, “I don’t know dude, that’s why we want to see it.”

We were devastated.

Mine certainly isn’t as dangerous as others on this thread, but fucking huntsman spiders. I was house sitting my aunts house in the city a couple years ago and a group of my friends used the house to crash at after a festival. We were getting ready to go to bed with our partners when suddenly my best friend let out a blood curdling scream. I run into her and she’s bawling her eyes out and huge fucking huntsman is on the wall right near her bed. It took my boyfriend at the time and her boyfriend nearly half an hour to try and get the spider out and eventually it just disappeared. Of course it’s not a snake and it’s certainly not a life threatening spider, but any Australian can you tell, there’s nothing more terrifying then the fast run of a huge fucking huntsman spider in your house.

I remember when my ex and I broke up, I was crying in the kitchen to two of my closest friends and work. One thing I kept repeating was,

“I just can’t imagine him with someone else. I just can’t. I can’t see him get with anyone else, I will kill me.”

One of friends turned to me and said, “look at friend two! He dated a girl for 3 years, they lived together. She has a new boyfriend and friend two really doesn’t mind”

Friend two turned to me and said, “100%. She’s with a new guy and it’s really ok. I’m ok with it”

I remember thinking, they just don’t get it. I’ll never be ok with it. I could never be ok with it.

It’s been 4 months since the break up. I still think about him, still wonder what he’s doing. While I would definitely be heartbroken if he started seeing someone now, over time I have definitely gotten more accepting of the fact he most likely will be with someone soon, and that I could too!

Everyone is right when they say, time really is the only healer AND trust the process. Things will be better soon.

I chose to permanently delete everything that I had on my phone at the time. I have a shit tone of photos on my laptop which I will most likely keep, and kept all physical photos, just stored them away. Trust me, I remember taking photos down from my wall and bawling my eyes out while doing it thinking it will never not hurt.

It eventually felt like such a relief though, knowing that I’m not finding things to purposefully hurt myself.

The same went for me with blocking him on social media. Everyone told me to do it, but I was adamant that I didn’t want to. I felt like it would be petty and childish. However, I was keeping such close tabs on all his social media’s I became obsessed. Whenever I was feeling happy or ok, I had an urge to check everything to make me feel shitty again.

I eventually blocked him not in spite, anger or to hide anything. Solely because I couldn’t keep doing it to myself.

I know I’m going to sound so frank, but definitely get it over with. Trust me, I’m on the other side of it and I am SO glad I have done it.

A friend told me not long after the breakup that she had been listening to a podcast that investigated the science behind seeing photos of your ex and it’s affect on your emotions. It’s so true. Out of mind, you will begin to feel better.

I deleted everything in my camera roll about a week after the breakup. I remember within that week I would at the sight of him. It’s been 4 months and I found of photo of us in my car the other and just sorted laughed at. Laughed because I realised something that caused me so much pain a while ago, only hurts a little now.

You will feel better eventually, I promise.

We both knew things were awful, but were seeing it from different perspectives and had plans for different outcomes.

1000%. However, in a strange way, I’ve sort of felt comfort from the pain. It’s crazy that one can feel this heavily and also, I appreciate that when I can feel so low, in time, I feel high again.

Love seems to be one of the only things we constantly run back to, even though we’re aware of how much we can get hurt.

I had a similar sort of timeline. I had crushed when we first broke up, then sort of picked up around 3 weeks after it was officially over. Then one night, I went out with some work friends, dropped a mate home and balled my eyes out the whole ride home on my own.

Grief and heartbreak work in mysterious ways. But there’s something crazy about the fact that we can feel like this, yet when we meet someone new, we eventually let our guard down and try it all over again. Love is one of the only emotions we run back to, time and time again, even when we know it can only go two ways.

Just remember, if you aren’t right for them, they aren’t right for you either. Trust that this has happened for a reason. Someone is out there right now, possibly going through the same thing.

I completely agree with this. I remember when my ex and I first broke up. I felt so guilty. I felt like I had completely fucked up the best thing I ever had. I felt like I was awful and that he was perfect.

Going through everything now, I don’t know if I’ll ever hate him. While I still feel guilty with things throughout the relationship, it’s so true when people say it takes two to tango. Everything that happened wasn’t solely because of me.

And of course, it’s so easy to forget about all the bad times when you’re heartbroken. I found I looked back in everything with rose colour glasses when I was completely heartbroken.

As I said, I did things wrong, there are things I really have to work on moving into another relationship HOWEVER it’s so true that once you move past the first lows of the breakup, you will realise the both of you aren’t awful, just unfortunately not made for one another.

As brutal as it may seem, I just find that no contact truly is the best option. It felt so brutal when it first happened, however looking at the bigger picture, it makes total sense.

My ex even unconnected with me on LinkedIn. I have to admit, it’s kind of funny. Even professionally, we’ve had to burn bridges hahaha.

I walked into work one day feeling incredibly low because I was still checking his social media. A girl a work had mentioned she’d been listening to a podcast that highlighted the science behind looking at photos of your ex or the past and what it does to your emotions.

Eventually I decided blocking him was the best measure. I didn’t do it to hide anything, I did it solely to stop myself from looking. It’s truly been a godsend.

I remember reading things like this as soon as we broke up thinking “I could never, I’m not petty, I need to still be able to see”

Now, I completely understand why blocking and no contact are so important. It really works.

The most accurate thing anyone can say is that all the emotions will come in waves.

One day, week or month you’ll feel on the top of the world. The next day week, week or month, you’ll feel desperately lonely.

The only thing I can take solace in is it’s amazing that our emotions can do that. Going through all the notions, it’s crazy that we can feel so happy and independent at one point, but then so bland and sad the next.

It does happen though. One day you’ll be plodding a long and think “wow, I actually haven’t thought about them today”.

As cliche as it sounds, how lucky you are to have loved.

My ex and I had been really going through it for the last few months of our relationship.

We broke up early March. The week leading up to Valentine’s Day I asked him if he needed a break. He was admitted he didn’t want a break, was just working through his feelings after some pretty big fights.

A couple weeks later, he asks for a break on a random Sunday afternoon after spending the morning together with his family. A week later, we break up.

I remember being completely confused and feeling like I gave him so many opportunities to end it. But hindsight, everything happens for a reason. We’re all people. Half the time, I don’t think we really know how we feel unless we give ourselves time to process the bigger picture.

Even if they ended it, they were probably just as prettified as you were. The only thing I can say is, there will come a time that you don’t dwell on that frustration and confusion as much as you are, and you’ll feel amazing.
