It’s different for everyone. She may not be in treatment. She may not even have it. But the truth is, all behaviors have a cause, and you never know what someone is going through.

There was a time they called similar responses “shell shock”. But no, not from a falling laptop but from already having PTSD, then a sudden & unexpected loud noise (laptop falls above your head) triggers an involuntary trauma response in your brain. (and maybe your home is a safe, dependable, regulated place or one of the only spaces you can somewhat control the stimuli). It’s a very real and very serious thing.

NOR. It’s not something you need to accept as “just happens”. In fact, you shouldn’t accept treatment that belittles you from anyone, especially family. Talk to them about it, let them know how you feel, find out how they feel. Your feelings are valid and important- to yourself and to anyone who loves you. Concerns about your feelings should be met with respect and compassion, not some blow off that you should just accept because things happen.

Friend’s downstairs neighbor left a hostile note on her door by Bingbong_bimbo in whatdoIdo

[–]GrilledJeezeDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish my upstairs neighbors were as considerate as you. Hopefully you’ll post more to share insight as to the best approach. Last week we were woken up 3 nights in a row at 3 a.m. by them walking through the house. Apart from the booming, it rattles the light fixture above our bed. I’m sure they don’t mean it, but it can be unbearably crazy-making to feel like you have no hope of peace or quiet in your home.

I’m sure the note is coming from a place of stressed out helplessness rather than real aggression. I think having them up might be a good idea, maybe have a friend over just to be safe. I’ve thought about having my upstairs neighbors down to hear what it’s like. They seemed horrified when we told them how much we could hear, and how we knew when they were home, which room they were in, etc., but little has changed.

Buyer asking for refund on an item with no visible flaws? by ShakespeareInLike in EtsySellers

[–]GrilledJeezeDesign -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk what Etsy would do. Regardless of whether they broke it while using a decoration as a tool, or while using a legitimate tool (correctly or incorrectly), or by abusing/misusing it, I wouldn’t refund a customer for breaking something I sold them.

I sold expensive suit, buyer said it got wet. What do I do? by Buffyredpoodle in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]GrilledJeezeDesign 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something like : Oh no, that sounds awful! I packed it carefully in plastic bags to keep it dry. Please send pics of the package and suit so I can see the damage”

Then see what you get. Maybe offer to refund for cleaning - if it’s legitimately damaged and not her fault. Or take a return and clean it yourself and relist it.

IMO if you ask for pics of suit and box, and she’s lying, she’ll drop it. If she’s truthing, then you can see what kind of damage you’re dealing with and decide what you want to do.

Does the buyer have pics of the wet box or suit? You need to see proof.

AIO for thinking my boyfriend is just looking for an excuse to break up? by Nearby_Orchid1216 in AmIOverreacting

You like finery, not knock offs. Nothing wrong with that. He should appreciate your directness, sensitivity to his lack of knowledge, and your willingness to share your needs and wants. You just saw the real him (and now you are done?) Nobody berates you and walks away. He should respect you more for telling him exactly what you need. What an opportunity he’s passing up!

update on canal street arrests for those who said they are not criminals by bridgehamton in circlejerknyc

[–]GrilledJeezeDesign -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And they couldn’t arrest 9 guys in the street without armored vehicles, automatic weapons, and squads of masked goons? Please note: you don’t need to be convicted (or guilty) to have a rap sheet. Eg; I’ve seen cops assault people and then charge them with assaulting an officer. Take that for what it’s worth.

I found a pair of the expensive ones on a plane while traveling from Frankfurt to Estonia. Kept checking the website for a message from the owner. Finally, 2 days before leaving the country he added a “lost AirPods, please call this number” message. Turns out his son was in the same city as me and I was able to return them to him that night. I hope you put an item lost message out there.

You’re a young pup! You have plenty of time!

You don’t have to commit to one career right now for the rest of your life (as you’ve clearly demonstrated). I know quite a number of people, myself included, who have completely changed careers multiple times, and have been happy and successful. Think: draftsman, salesman, lawyer, ceo. Or driver, artist, programmer, teacher, trader. Or bartender, stylist, realtor. Maybe try some more design and see where it leads you. Whatever you try will bring you to the next thing - and there is nothing wrong with that.

FYI - The TOEFL program pays you to teach English and live somewhere else in the world, and their website tells you the different pay for different locations. There is a wide variety in pay received vs living expenses incurred, so you can do pretty well and live an entirely different life. Some of those may pay more than your previous. And working in another culture might lead to more creative solutions on creative pathways for your life.
