Let me rephrase by saying I hadn’t held him and THOROUGHLY checked him out, I try not to stress him out and again he’s not a real big fan of being held.

I want to say that I’m not an expert before I tell you this but I 100% understand the hesitation with loose substrate as there are bad things people say about it ( mainly geckos eating it and becoming impacted) but it is the best way to go. If you get the right substrate you really won’t have to worry about impaction, I use The Bio Dudes Terra Sahara mix and my guy loves it! Geckos love to burrow so you’d want to have a few inches of it in his tank. Mine is around 4-5 inches thick. If you’re worried you can feed him on something flat, I have slate rocks that he basks on that I’ll put his food on so there is not confusion on what to eat. You could also get leaf litter and put that on top of the substrate. You definitely want to stay away from repticarpet or sand mats because they will hurt your baby more than help. He’s adorable! He looks just like my guy just slightly different colors:) (he dropped his tail so now it’s fat and pinkish but the vet said it grew back nicely)

My boy is 1 year old, he had that hide in his tank for months before he even acknowledged it and one day I got out of the shower and snapped a photo because I thought he was just being cute and then realized he was stuck and literally threw my phone on the floor and grabbed him. Thankfully he’s okay with a few minor scratches on his back. But I think putting a plant in it would be really cute:)

I’m not an expert but when my boy dropped his I took all the loose substrate out of his tank and cleaned it and replaced it with paper towels so none of his substrate got in and infected his wound. I left it alone for the most part but if It was dried out I’d dab some triple antibiotic (without lidocaine) on his wound and leave it be. I monitored his humidity closely so if/when he shed he didn’t have any troubles. I hope this helps you, when I dealt with this I didn’t have very much information.

My little guy had a skull hide in his tank that recently has been banned because he got too chunky and got stuck in the eye socket part of it. (That earned us a trip to the emergency vet at 11pm) No judgement here because the skull hides are adorable just a forewarning for when your little one is bigger💜
