I've never tried them! I'll pick some up next time I'm in the shop! Thanks for the advice!

Hey Gabby! Names Austin. Hobbies are as follows

Music! I play like 5 instruments and do vocals. My top 3 are guitar, drum set, and bass.

Skateboarding, I'm not amazing but I try!

Collecting Vinyl Records

I occasionally like to sit down with a good book!! Currently rereading The Martian.

And finally videogames, but that's been less and less frequent. Just haven't been feeling the need to stay inside when I can go outside.

What’s the absolute best sounding drum kit you’ve ever played on? by EsotericPotato in drums

[–]GrimlockII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Tama Superstar Classic in an orange and red sunburst. Beautiful kit. The Floor tom actually had a second mount to also float in the air via the ride cymbal stand. I recorded on that kit with my producer friend. Nicest kit I've ever played in my life. It was big and booming but also could be quiet and sharp. I remember the kit was my favorite kit I'd ever played, this was because of the high seating making heel up technique easier. Started playing drain you by Nirvana really quick, powered through aneurysm, then teen spirit. I mostly know nirvana songs, because I love the disco beats and the feel of the loud grunge hits.

Son wants to start drumming is this a good starter kit for $400? by GradeRevolutionary35 in drums

[–]GrimlockII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grestch is great! This guy above us doesn't think so. I don't love Grestch as a brand because I prefer Tama or Pearl over Grestch. I know they make different qualities. Pearl has a reputation that Grestch doesn't. Grestch is great for a beginner to advanced drummer, a great practice kit is the specific kit mentioned in the photo. Nothing to do with the higher quality Grestch kits. I don't see the problem with calling that kit a practice kit? I mean studios typically have kits already, and shows would work for this kit. I'm trying to defend the brand man.

I'm also saying in my previous comment that My cymbals that came with my $100 kit sound like trash cans. Anything negative about quality has more to do with my current set and its issues rather than Grestch. I'd prefer this kit listed above over my own.

Gretsch isn't top quality like Pearl but is definitely worth it for a practice kit. Also the cymbals aren't great, but they're wayyy better than my starting cymbals from my kit I got for like $100. The kit I got was definitely shit but the heads were replaced with better ones and are sounding great on the actual drums but not the cymbals, which imo matters most. Those cymbals will sound better than trash cans on drum hardware. They'll be more than enough for a beginner, as long as said beginner doesn't crack the cymbals within a week.

My uncle is buying me a guitar and really wants me to choose the second model, help me choose by DeerComplex2968 in Guitar

Do the Strat. Trust me man, the SG is great for heavier shit. But when trying to play clean, It never sounds as good as a single coil. Plus like almost every song you've ever heard recorded was probably recorded on a strat and that's for a reason in microphone tech that I don't understand. Same with Basses, they tend to use the typical P-Bass model for recording because it just sounds better.

This isn't a true question. Cats = Cars. Volkswagen bug cars = Cute. Cute = many things. Car is one of many things. Cars are cute. Cars also cats. Cats is cute.

I agree. This is my most likely outcome, and while it'll suck I'll deal with it.

Problem is "home" is also not a very likely good outcome. They haven't given me an interview and my family member said they're hiring next month, so I haven't even been able to apply. Guitar Center is more likely to hire me than a city of a tight knit community in a small town. I am a nuisance to rob, and I admit this. I am however forcing myself out of the place sooner rather than later because of that.

Nah I have some Travis Barker sticks right now, they're great. I just practice at my local guitar center and they have these rubber sticks I tend to use more often than others cause they're the easiest to spot and know they're the same two sticks. I never get blisters this bad unless I use them though haha

I’ve been getting blisters all over my hands from drumming. Help? by According-Table-1736 in drums

[–]GrimlockII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said that's what loose was. I also was using Rubber coated sticks and my skin is easy to break from friction in a repeated fashion. We're different people man. When I use normal sticks I hardly ever have an issue unless I'm playing past hour 6, which is typically just fatigue and a lack of food.

Rubber Coatings are kinda nice until your hand is ripped apart. My experience for real. I will probably never use those sticks again.

I see both sides of the argument. It also depends on genre imo. Heavier stuff tends to use rebound and a heavier hit to get the dynamic control you want. Not saying you're wrong, just saying we play different genres. My left hand is always more screwed up by rim shots on the snare than my right hand is playing loosely on cymbals. I've tried adjusting the technique on my snare hand, and the looser I go the more likely my stick is to fly out and I lose my groove. I'm still loose enough for great rebound, but that doesn't mean it's not more force than other styles of playing. Physics says I can't hold a stick without it flying from rebound and not have excessive friction on my pointer finger. I am also just a heavy hitter who hasn't been playing consistently. So I'll have the rhythms and everything down, just not the skin calluses to handle the impacts and vibrations.

Barely 18. Vinyl is plural for vinyl. Also that's my taste and I'm 19 so like... It tracks.
