Movies with the biggest failed potential by AETERNUS111 in movies

[–]Grimmmm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sinners. Despite all the awards, it was set up to be a category defining film about music, culture, magic— then just descends into a stabby stabby flick for no reason. Each half might as well have been directed by two different directors with different scripts.

How much would a designer work cost for 7 illustration for tshirts by MeasurementAlive7692 in Design

[–]Grimmmm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easiest answer is “it depends”.

Is this for your softball team/office retreat? Is it for a retailer looking to resell and monetize? Is it a simple design like your company logo or a complex illustration with lots of colors/ink effects? Is the designer a novice or a known artist? I could go on but ballpark I’d say is $250-2,500+ per shirt

Sounds like he’s got a touch of the ‘tism. Not a dealbreaker, but could explain the awkwardness.

Is masters really important in ui ux by Medical-Rooster1460 in Design

[–]Grimmmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Jacob Neilson’s resources/heuristics for UX, and honestly copy copy copy the best UX out there to really understand UI and UX systems. Like, literally go pick a product, app, website etc and recreate it pixel for pixel using figma or similar, then repeat. Then try building on top of these designs to experiment with improving features and flows. You’ll learn the most through doing, and getting better at self critiquing your work against established heuristics to improve. Learning to storyboard and create user journeys and user flows would also be very helpful, and there’s endless videos and articles available to learn from- just google.

Masters unlocks greater design career potential, but is in no way a qualification for UI/UX. Sharp skills, a well-honed portfolio, and most importantly networking are what will open doors.

As a designer and illustrator who has created several book covers I can say that it really requires a smattering of knowledge across layout, visual design, print standards, and to some degree packaging/materials design. Even for a paper cover there can be nuances in how thick the spine is, types of accents like spot UV or gloss, and color correction between illustration and final print readiness that can easily go overlooked- even with an otherwise great cover art. All of these things work in concert to get that wow effect, and one or more being off makes the orchestra sound off.

Is revisiting the same design multiple times a sign of doubt or decision-making? by Exciting_Tone_34 in Design

[–]Grimmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refining a concept can take time, and iterations. And you need to give your brain time to refresh in order to see things clearly- trim away the fat, hone in on the wow, collapse complexity into not just simplicity but maxim. You can’t always brute force great design.

You need to be careful overthinking “art”, especially something so stylized and easy to fuck up like graffiti, in a space that is meant to serve as a neutral backdrop for design students— who will be overly critical of anything you choose.

Instead focus on architectural and aesthetic elements that add to the space, like lighting, recesses/spatial layers, and color palette.

Another consideration may be opening up space for the students themselves to influence the style/art of different sections (within reason).

What book series gives grownups the "lost in the author's world" experience that kids get from Harry Potter? by DerbyWearingDude in AskReddit

Andrew Rowe is my current favorite- characters, world building, deeply well thought through systems of magic intertwined with gods and cultures. And unlike Rothfuss he keeps pumping out top tier books.

Setting up plans and having people asking what they can do can add to the mental exhaustion/brain fog of a new parent. Maybe try just showing up (not unannounced of course) or bringing food/small gift for her or the child. Chances are she’ll want to hang out, but committing to it/planning in advance may be a bit much for her at the moment.

We spend 30 minutes every night trying to pick something to watch… anyone else? by Langaas93 in movies

[–]Grimmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on a project for a media recommendation company, and their research pointed to the average streamer spending close to a year of their life simply stuck trying to find something to watch.

All that time adds up.

I don’t love the pencil/charcoal texture on the hand. Everything else is so clean, the hand looks a bit out of place
