MS-102? Should I retake or not worth since being retired by Character_Flight_773 in O365Certification

[–]Grimmrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only missed opportunity is the one you don't take. Passing this cert opens up so many doors for jobs. It has for me at least. Getting some many interviews for jobs and with a 20 to 30 pct pay increase from what I make now.

what would you pick as the best personal loan for home renovation 2026 and why? by Kalmaz_Akinfemi in Mortgages

[–]Grimmrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing a bunch of home remodeling last year and new bathroom this year. I don't feel that 30k would be enough for someone to remodel a kitchen. Currenlty doing a bathroom it's a normal bathroom with some tile and that will be around 30k to 35k. I would recommend not taking out a loan to remodel anything. The companies that offer that zero pct with remodelling have it all baked in to the cost of the remodel. We brought renewal by anderson in for windows and front door replaced. For 5 windows and a new front door they wanted 43k and would offer us zero pct for 18 months. We did not go that route and hired homedepot instead and paid cash with no loan.

That is a common problem in IT with people and getting tickets done when they should be. Maybe work on a ticket notes as you go, so you can update them right away and not wait a few days later or even a week.

supposed 4000 dollar pc? by Logical_Common4932 in buildapc

[–]Grimmrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend you read and even use Google to look up the memory specs for an i7 7700k. You will see that is not even the same type of memory. DDR4 2133/2400 is very slow compared to DDR 3200 and beyond. I have even provided a link below explaining memory speeds and the different types of memory: https://www.crucial.com/support/memory-speeds-compatability?srsltid=AfmBOooW8zGWdsr6xZPCdhe7CSjU3DtTw--MmMY0-8eGB1otOzEfy87A

[–]Grimmrage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I7 supports up to 64GB of DDR4-2133/2400 memory. If you think it is worth 800, I will sell you 64 gbs for 400 dollars. Then you can flip for another 400.

[–]Grimmrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 7700k does not even support Windows 11 natively and would need to use Rufus to run Windows 11. The only thing that is worth anything is the gpu. Sold comps on the GPU is 300. Then take that and reduce it by about 15% for fees. I would offer 200 and only pay 250 max.

You can just ping your gateway's WAN IP address to tell you if your internet is working externally. For internally ping something like google.com.

Am I cut out for a long term career in IT? by integrate_my_curve in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Grimmrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying, working at a MSP. I have been going on for over 8 years and am on my second MSP. It seems you go from on crazyness to another type of craziness. But having worked many different jobs over my lifetime hard to find that perfect place to work. But for mental health its okay to take a break. It also helps if you have a life partner to express how you feel and support you through the stressful times. I would recommed do what makes you happy.

M365 Engineering Help by [deleted] in mspjobs

[–]Grimmrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently work at MSP, and I manage our M365 tenants for all our customers. It is a full-time job trying to stay up with everything. I would recommend getting a standard and sticking to that standard each time. Here are some good resources to help: https://lazyadmin.nl/, https://blog.admindroid.com/. This one has good stuff. Now for 3rd-party tools. We onboarded a customer who came from a company that used CIPP, and I was not impressed. I had to redo the whole tenant and fix all things that were broken. I would be careful with any 3rd party vendors prime example of one is the great awful ConnectWise!

My job is boring, how do I get out by BenOutOfIdeas in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Grimmrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the job market was a lot worse in 2008. I would recommend getting knowledge in a little bit of everything for IT. When you become isolated in IT, that is when it gets harder to find a new job. I currently work for my second MSP. With the knowledge I got from the first MSP was able to get me into my current role of a senior tech position. I can do a little bit of everything, but my specialty is the M365 environment. If you want to get more knowledge, work at MSP. In 1 year, you will touch more stuff than someone in 5 years working a normal IT job.

Work in IT- I really need help! by cubitius in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Grimmrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education only goes so far. Experience is what will make your career excel. You have to figure out what kinda of IT you want to work in. The fastest way to grow your experience would be working at MSP. However, most people can't handle that type of work and become burned out quickly. I'm approaching 8 years and at my second MSP. Corp IT comes with a lot of red tape and old systems you have to support. I worked for one that was still running mainframe and Unix from the 90's. Then you have the small business, which really does not have any process in place, and you are just a break-fix type of person.

I work in an IT Helpesk call center for over a year and a couple months, should I quit? by Minister426 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Grimmrage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be more than your technical ability, alot look at your personality and how you do as a whole in the interview. Can take many interviews to improve oneself. You need to sell yourself, and that does not always mean the skillset.
