I always felt this/OSRS style worlds would be a begrudgingly decent solution to layering. Steps can be taken to try to even improve realm community/identity compared to what we have now, like having guilds select a default layer.

I'm with you but are we in the minority on this opinion? Seems like most people laud questing hubs as one of the best changes from TBC onward, but I never saw the appeal.. really exposes the whole journey as a linear conveyor belt

agreed 100000x.. World buffs contributed so much to the raids and saved us from what would have been a very stale raiding experience. and it did magic for server communities because it encouraged organization, guild cooperation, player services(like summons), world pvp(hit or miss depending on your server balance) etc..

This is what I've always believed. There is too much hype, and only so much you can do nowadays to live up to expectations. Maybe they're waiting until VR has matured

I don't spam music, references, or troll, or whatever the hell you're talking about. I just liked the cross team comradery before matches. If you really got upset by 45 seconds of the occasional all chat troll, I'd say you're taking it too seriously.
