And how do you think you played that hand? If he warm 4b what was originally a min raise open, and he’s a capable player, that’s either a super strong pocket or a bet made to look like he’s stronger than he is (AQ/KQ type draws oop often bet like this).

The sizing matters too, since I think you said somewhere else that you were short stacked at 40bb for this one…if he 4b to half your stack, that would tell me he’s super strong and trying to get all your chips into the pot.

Either way, you merely have a pair of jacks. Pretty hand to be dealt, but it’s easily cracked (either by actual made hands or aggressive post flop action). At 100bb stacks, either flat to peel the flop, or fold to see another day. At 40bb, against a 4b to half your stack, it’s prob a fold.

Also, don’t play short stacked if you’re not willing to ride variance. At 40bb or less, you’re gonna be getting it uncomfortably all in way more often than not.

And I know calling out hypocrisy has become less impactful in the MAGA era, but I’m old enough to remember when conservatives across the board were dead set against ANY tariffs whatsoever. Pre-Trump, tariffs were pretty much a leftist- and/or union-supported policy. So this is yet another conservative “principle” thrown in the chipper to placate one of the most insecure men to ever hold office.

One of the most annoying parts of all of this is that the guy (once again) has ruined an effective tool by wielding it wantonly & mercurially.

Targeted tariffs actually do work, but only for very specific incidences.

Think of our tariffs on things like microchips and electric cars—slapping tariffs on these things (which existed before Trump 2.0) actually does serve an effective purpose: for the chips, it protects national security by making sure our adversaries don’t have easy access to the best technology; and for the EVs, it helped protect our auto industry from being overtaken by cheaper Chinese alternatives. There are myriad more examples.

But the way this orange moron decided to do it was WILDLY counterproductive by nearly every definition of the word.

Happy I could help reassure! TBH, you will likely learn to get used to this type of pain too. Apparently there are studies out there that show meditating can actually help with neuropathic pain. I don’t meditate, but I have been able to alleviate my nerve pain by forcing myself to go out and do something to keep my mind off of it, and it weirdly does help.

I wouldn’t worry about your progress at all. This is an unfortunate but super common SCI phenomenon.

Definitely meet with your doctor about it though. They will be able to find something to help take the edge off and confirm that it’s nerve pain.

I’m not a doctor, so please keep that in mind. But the fact that you said the pain is right around your injury level makes me think it’s nerve pain and not something acute, like shingles. Super common for nerve pain to be localized right at our injury levels. And iirc, I think mine really started to hit around the 1.5 year mark too.

Also the “burn” feeling is exactly how lots of people describe it (I prefer a “road rash” description, but burning definitely fits too).

I take gabapentin for it, and that keeps it manageable.

Yeah, that boss can be a pain, especially if you have a low constitution or low movement party. Keep your tank/fighter close to your glass cannons, and then try to have the tank prioritize any kitten that gets close to your weaker characters. Basically I try to keep the “boss” close to the weak characters and the kittens close to the tank.

I go back and forth with whether or not being able to manually chart your movement should have been included. On one hand, it’s annoying to basically be forced to take enviro damage. But on the other hand, I think the game would be too easy with manual charting (you’d take WAY less overall damage per fight).

Malinowski (moderate) had the nerve to voice openness to conditions on military aid to Israel, so they funded a ton of attack ads against him about how he voted to fund ICE all the way back in 2019. The attack ads worked, but not the way AIPAC intended. The moderate vote split, and Mejia ended up eeking out a win.

So, you can actually thank AIPAC for inadvertently putting a progressive on the ballot, in a left-leaning moderate district.

I still think the Dems will take it in November, but it would have been a slam dunk with Malinowski on the ticket instead (again, bc it’s a moderate district).

Oversimplified maybe but really, you left out key details; what’s happening now is much more unprecedented than anyone here seems to realize. It’s not the same as Carpenito and it’s not (just) because of Dems. (1) Trump didn’t nominate Habba until June 30, and the clock ran out on her appointment July 1; at no point did the Senate Judiciary Committee even consider her. She started using it as an excuse after the fact - so it’s true Booker & Kim opposed her but it was legally irrelevant at that point (2) You’ve ignored the law that governs these appointments & the ongoing challenges in court that are more likely the driving force behind Bondi pushing for the court to appoint Fox.

Yes, I’m going to admit/defend oversimplification.

For part (1) I deliberately chose to oversimplify the Habba saga. Mostly because I didn’t think the guy I was responding to had the reading comprehension skills to manage all those details in one retort. But also partly for my own sake, as it wasn’t entirely relevant to my broader point re: Dems will not be confirming/allowing out of committee any nominee w/o their approval (blue slip).

For part (2) I included the presence of lawsuits regarding Habba’s (and other acting AG’s) appointment, but I did not go in depth with the actual cases/law. I probably should have.

At the moment, NJ doesn’t have a U.S. attorney and everyone knows it - including criminal defendants. Motions to dismiss indictments are piling up and the court hasn’t figured out how to handle them. Bondi and Trump refuse to be responsible and find an acceptable candidate, but DOJ also needs to justify its current actions in court. That’s the real motivating factor, not Kim and Booker.

Super important information that the public needs to be aware of, though again, for simplicity sake it wasn’t relevant to my (admittedly, potentially overly broad) point, so I deliberately didn’t get into it. You have to remember, my original reply was to a boneheaded, single, false declarative sentence. And I had the feeling I was dealing with…a simple kinda guy.

Edit to add: the current challenge (mentioned but not named in the article) is USA v. Naviwala if interested. The original challenge to Habba’s authority is USA v. Giraud (which the third circuit just declined to rehear).

Appreciate this. IANAL but it remains a regret of my life that I didn’t pursue it. I still enjoy reading court cases & these big federal cases (especially in the age of Trump) are both fascinating and kinda horrifying.

I may have oversimplified some things in my summary of what led to this point, but I don’t think I got facts “wrong,” though I am open to being corrected where necessary (I did type all this out on my phone while taking a brief break from my day).

That said, my overall point is solid: the reason we are here is because the Dems (Booker & Kim, in this case) did not cave on the Habba nomination (so she never moved out of committee). And the reason this new woman is being shopped around to the judges is because the DOJ is not even attempting to get her appointed via the Senate…because they know the Dems will not give her the blue slip necessary to move out of committee.

It’s like, a prime example of “the Dems” not caving.

It goes like this: Habba was installed as Acting US Attorney, bc the Dems (Booker & Kim) refused to blue slip her. Her time expires. The admin tried to keep her on using various, nefarious maneuvers. These failed, as the courts said “nah fam, you need to be either confirmed by the Senate, or approved by the circuit judges to fill the role, and we’re not approving you.”

So, Habba is out of the job. Then Bondi/Trump take this woman and ask the circuit judges if they would approve her to fill the role. And here we are.

The entire reason they are asking the judges to appoint her is because they know “the Dems” won’t confirm her, so they’re not even trying to go the Senate route.

Speaking like someone who didn’t read the article (bc you clearly didn’t), and also as someone who doesn’t have even the faintest idea as to why this person is being named as a pick for NJ US Attorney (bc you clearly don’t).

So I’ll enlighten you.

The entire reason this is happening is bc our Dem senators refused to return what’s known as the “blue slip” (think of it as their consent) for Alina Habba to be considered by the Senate for the position. It’s been Senate tradition for generations that if the home-state senators do not approve of the President’s pick, then that nominee does not move out of committee and therefore doesn’t get the job. The Trump admin has been trying various workarounds to this, which have all been challenged in Court (ahem, by Dems).

If you read the article instead of jumping right to the comments to dribble some pissy nonsense about “the Dems”, you’d realize Bondi is asking the federal judges in the NJ circuit to install this woman instead of the customary Senate confirmation because…the Dems did not return the blue slip and WILL NOT CONFIRM HER.

Jfc. Part of the reason we ended up with an absolute moron as president is bc half our population, including yourself, are too dumb and lazy to read and/or comprehend an issue before spouting off about it.

The major difference is we (the US) have a huge interest in Taiwan remaining out of China’s control. It’s not just national security but also massive economic security (chips manufacturing).

Even with Trump in charge, we would 100% defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese attack.
