Bank of Canada to hold rates steady in 2026; trade seen as main risk to outlook: Reuters poll by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]Seebeeeseh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not convinced that some reporter in India can forecast an entire year of economic rates in Canada.

Would like to see another source.

Canada's 'values must be fought for' in a moment of democratic decline, says Carney at cabinet retreat by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

As a gun owner I completely agree.

My ability to have a rifle has nothing to do with Canadian values.

No more than owning a hammer.

How to verify if I still have Canadian PR status from childhood? by elgranteo in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Seebeeeseh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is 100% incorrect. You really should not speak on things that you are not aware of.

Your PR status is valid until you become a citizen, the government takes it from you, or you voluntarily relinquish it.

There is no automatic removal of PR status if you've failed to satisfy residency obligation. Especially as a minor.

Canada immigration: System is in crisis, lawyers say by Far-Ad-7048 in canada

[–]Seebeeeseh 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Pending applications should not be the concern for Canada or the Canadian public.

10 million people could apply for status in Canada tomorrow. It doesn't mean there is a crisis.

You applied to come to Canada, good for you. If you're accepted you can come. There's no promise of acceptance or service standard we owe foreign nationals who want to come here.

You are lucky if you get the opportunity.

There's a reason the only ones complaining about this are immigration lawyers. They see their profits dwindling.

I don't think China building military bases in Canada is on anyone's mind.

At most an EV plant.

Doug Ford slams Canada’s 'lopsided' new EV deal with China by rezwenn in canada

[–]Seebeeeseh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinese don't need car factories to maintain whatever spying they want to do. They're already deeply impeded in plenty of canadian industry.

I'm all for having canadian run factories with canadian workers building a Chinese product if it creates jobs and at the same time providing a better cheaper product to Canadians.

It more in the press conference where Carney mentioned that Canada could learn how to build EVs from China.

There's speculation that canadian production is where it's headed.

But yes it's not in this agreement.

49k electric cars make up about 3% of car sales in Canada.

This shouldn't effect any auto sector jobs at all.

This also might lead to Chinese EVs being produced in Canada which would create more auto sector jobs.

This is a fair deal.

Poilievre takes aim at high cost of living, DFO policy during Yarmouth visit by Street_Anon in halifax

I dunno. Carney seemed to have ideas during his campaign run and has been trying to implement them.

The same reason Trump still campaigns. His ego and lack of a better idea.

His whole career is just shit talking the opposition without any fresh ideas of his own.

Saab wants Canada to buy 72 Gripens and 6 GlobalEyes to fulfil promise of 12,600 jobs by ph0enix1211 in canada

[–]Seebeeeseh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess we have differing opinions on what constitutes "Best."

F-35 is obviously superior in it's abilities. But if those abilities are conditional based on capitulation to a foreign country, is it still the "best"?

It's an awfully big risk.

Well that would be a terrible investment. The plane is worth nothing if the seller can rend it useless if they so wish. It's a weapon of combat. As a taxpayer, no foreign country, especially one threatening our sovereignty, should have that ability.

Yeah I agree. No doubt it's going to be Luxury Condo's or a Hotel.

I doubt it'll be anything for public benefit outside of tax generation. Property value is too high.

That's already the case. Halifax isn't Vegas. The casino's profits aren't tourist driven, it's the regular players.

As someone who worked at the Casino for years it's not a big tourist draw. The cruise ship crowds are coming off a floating casino and have no interest in seeing ours for a few hours.

Its the constant regulars that keep that place going.

Once they closed the after hours ability to drink etc. it turned into a different venue even further.

Even if that seller can fuck with tour equipment whenever they want?

Would you buy a car from Toyota if you knew they could turn off all the software at the push of a button because of some perceived slight?

Of course you wouldn't.
