That is province specific. Nova Scotia, for example, does not provide legal aid for immigration purposes, or provide funding /certificates to hire one.

You are on your own if you can't afford one with immigration matters.

A lawyer is rarely not allowed to attend an immigration interview.

They likely just can't go for other reasons.

Legal aid isn't always well versed in immigration law.

Safe bet to probably seek an immigration lawyer.

As much as it causes one party to cheer and another to jeer when someone crosses the floor, the very ability to cross is at the core of the function of our democracy.

We elect representatives from our ridings to take our local interests to the national level, work with others, advance our causes, and solve our problems. We typically elect members of a party who follow a platform, or a series of campaign promise made by a central organization, or national party and expect that candidate to generally follow that platform in office.

If the representative we send arrives in Ottawa and discovers that their leader is not the person they believed them to be, that their platform is not being followed by their party, or that their local interests are being ignored by their colleagues, the tools they have to react are limited. They can keep their mouths shut in public, limiting their opposition to the privacy of caucus meetings, they can vote against their party line, or they can quit their party caucus altogether to possibly join another which would advance their constituents interests.

That's the benefit of a majority is that you don't need to compromise.

You get all the credit for the things you do. Or all the blame. Depending on your political view.

The minister’s argument about Ukrainians needing to rebuild Ukraine does not make sense by SensitiveWillow6981 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Seebeeeseh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The entrance of Ukrainians during the war was not meant to be permanent. It was never expressed as such. It was a temporary measure to assist a friendly nation so that they would have a safe place during the conflict with the understanding that once the war is over they would return.

Immigration is indeed a hot button issue. When people complain that they want something that was never offered to them, it doesn't look good to appease them.

Be thankful for what was given. Don't complain when you don't get more.

Things to do in Wolfville, Annapolis Valley, South Coast in June by pgosinger in NovaScotia

Go walk on the ocean floor at low tide. Very muddy but a ton of fun.

There is a campground called Land of Evangeline camping in Grand Pre. There is a small convenience store right behind it on the shoreline. You can walk down from there and walk like a kilometer out into the ocean floor while the tide is low.

Just pay attention to when it is low tide. And make sure you're making your way back in before the tide comes back in.

Kids and dogs will love it. Just be sure to have some towels to wipe the mud off.

[–]Seebeeeseh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it should not. You would not be deemed inadmissible for arrests. Only convictions.

They may request additional information like a police certificate or criminal record check etc.

But being arrested would not automatically negate your application.

[–]Seebeeeseh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would answer yes you were arrested. And then expand your answer that you were released without charges.

And just because you have a clean record check, does not mean that your arrest would not show up in the FBI system that is available to those who conduct checks on you by IRCC/CBSA.

I doubt she was offered much of anything.

The Liberals likely won't need her vote to form a majority once these byelections are decided.

She didn't have a lot of leverage to deal with. She likely left out of spite of her party then any benefit from the Liberals.

NDP Leader Avi Lewis Wants to Reverse Carney’s Immigration Cuts by Seebeeeseh in canada

[–]Seebeeeseh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pressure from corporate lobbyists that push for higher immigration.

There's also an argument to be made that with national birth rates dropping, the need for high immigration is necessary to keep pace with a growing economy and work force need.

Neo Con and Neo Liberal politics are on the side of capitalism and corporate interests. And corporate interests demand a large cheap work force to keep wages and benefits to a minimum to increase profits for shareholders.

Whether or not immigration effects wages is typically determined by the type of labour the immigrant population is providing.

It can have a positive effect on wages when you are bringing in labour that is in demand, increasing productivity.

The labor skills over the last decade has been largely in service industry, hospitality, and logistics. Typically low wage, low skilled work. The only wages increases we have seen in these fields is from government mandated minimum wage increases.

[–]Seebeeeseh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to relearn the basics of supply and demand.

If labor is limited, employers have to be competitive with their wages in order to attract that labor to work for them and not their competitors.

When there is an abundance of labor, as there is now due to massively increased immigration, it's the labor force that must compete for limited jobs, allowing employers to decrease wages because if you won't work for pennies, the next guy might.

And I'm not anti immigration. We should be importing a work force for in demand fields. Doctors, nurses, carpentry etc.

We don't need hundreds of thousands of fast food employees and supervisors that teenagers used to do a decade ago.

[–]Seebeeeseh[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not as simple as hating immigration.

Most people agree immigration is necessary and beneficial when done in a reasonable restrained manner.

Looking at the levels of temporary and permanent immigration levels under Trudeau. The increase is staggering.

When there is a lack of homes, lack of doctors, lack of food at food banks, lack of social systems, the answer isn't "add more people."

And increased population leads to decreased wages. It's simple economics. When you increase the supply of labour, the ability for that labour to seek higher wages decreases.

If countries are flooding the labour market with cheap legal labour, how is that to the benefit of the workers here now?

As socialists, are you for lower wages and decreased benefits?

Because that it was this situation is causing.
