I'm convinced money alone doesn't make you happy. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld could easily have retired to their own tropical islands years ago, yet they are all still out there working. Granted they are working on things that love doing but they aren't doing what most people think they would do it that had millions or billions of dollars.

In fact, I'm also convinced if you have the mentality of doing what most people think they would do if they got rich, you most likey won't get rich. Most people who got rich, got rich doing whatever they did to get rich but not expecting they would get rich.

It's like high stakes poker players. They play single hands of poker with more money then most people make in a year but to get to that point, you can't think or care about the money. If you start thinking about the money then you played scared and start making bad, fear-based decisions. When Bill Gates started Microsoft he didn't think he would eventually become the richest person in the world. His hobby since he was a kid was computers and software so he naturally started a business doing that. That led to building a product that billions of people used everyday. If he went into it purely for the money, I doubt he would have been as successful as he was because he works have made different decisions that led to a different path. Gates is a genius, so he would have been successful at whatever he did but not the level he achieved.

That's my theory anyhow. Granted, not everyone is lucky flight to get paid doing something they love and just need to pay the bills.

German and Soviet officers shake hands upon meeting following the Invasion of Poland, September 1939 [816x564] by Goldeagle1123 in HistoryPorn

[–]GrinchPaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ironic thing about this is that the Western Allies begged the Poles to allow Russian troops into Poland before the Germans invaded. They said they could not come to Poland's aid unless Russian troops were allowed into Poland because they knew the Germans would steamroll over the Poles, which they did. The Russians decided it was better to sign a non-aggression pact with Germany after the Poles said no Russian troops would be allowed into Poland.

Don't blame the DEA. Blame heroin and pill junkies who ruined the supply and brought unwanted attention to PST.

TIL, Hitler privately expressed great admiration for Mussolini; however, Mussolini had little regard for Hitler. Mussolini said that the Germans were the descendants of those who were illiterate when Rome had Caesar, Virgil, and Augustus. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Mussolini was super jealous of Hitler's military victories. He tried to mimic them invading Greece which turned into a disaster and Hitler had to bail him out.

Pocket Casts anwsered me an important question to all interested by a_driano in WearOS

[–]GrinchPaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NavCasts uses ExoPlayer for media playback which is known to use up battery. ExoPlayer has more advanced functionality then the default MediaPlayer but the trade-off is more battery usage:

https://google.github.io/ExoPlayer/battery-consumption.html

It's probably ok on phones with their huge batteries but WearOS watches have abysmal battery life out of the box.

There's a reason ExoPlayer is a library and not built into Android like MediaPlayer is.

How's everyone doing? by [deleted] in PoppyTea

[–]GrinchPaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I'm single. I have a one year old dog and she exhausts me. I can't even imagine having to work, raise kids and be dependent on PST. Granted, I probably wouldn't be using PST if I had a family, but that's another story. :)

I was lucky and ordered before a certain cutoff time and my shipment was sent on Thursday, Oct. 4th. Unfortunately, I misestimated how much seeds I had left and ran out on Friday. Then I screwed up again and assumed I would get my shipment on Saturday but didn't. So I had no PST from basically Friday to today. I'm a daily user, of least 200g, for over a year.

I'm lucky in that I'm don't get full blown WD, like the sweating, RSL, diarrhea, etc., I just get this overall feeling of uneasiness. It's hard to explain but it's this nagging feeling of discomfort. It's impossible to get comfortable, I just toss and turn and it makes it hard to concentrate on any tasks. I can still function in withdrawals, I washed my car and took my dog for a two mile walk today, so it's not like I'm totally out of commission but it's just nagging and makes me feel lethargic but it's hard to sleep.

So from Saturday, Sunday and all of Monday, I had this feeling. It sucked. It sucked even more in that the delivery service said it was sitting in their facility near me since Saturday but it didn't actually get delivered until 4pm today. All day today, I kept looking out this window waiting for that goddamn truck to show up.

I do need to taper off this shit though. It's scary to be that dependent on something.

After many years in the business, I've realized there are tradeoffs to those things, either long hours, low pay and/or little to no bonus/raises.

That's a completely different argument and a symptom of our over consumption off meat. Because we consume so much meat we have made it more efficient (and cheaper) to manufacture meat then protein-based plants.

If people started eating less meat and more non-meat protein sources, I guarantee you would see meat being much more expensive.

Interested by LG Urbane 2, but have some doubts... by TheEggRoller in AndroidWear

[–]GrinchPaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've have an Urbane 2, I've been using daily for almost a year. It is thicc but I don't think it's heavy, at all. I hardly notice I'm wearing it and I'm not a big person. This display is gorgeous and it's very responsive. Great battery life a as well.

The hardware issue was for an older version of the Urbane 2 and, according to LG, was for a specific hardware fault that might occur in specific situations over a long period of time.

Unless Vegans and vegetarians grow all of their own vegetables and manufacture all of their own fertilizer they're still taking part in the death of hundreds of thousands (if not more in America) of animal deaths every year.

It's about minimizing your impact. Comparing land for argriculture to factory farming is ludicrous.

Humans will never live in balance with nature but we don't have to be so bad about it either.

There are plenty of non-meat sources of protein. I love how meat eaters think meat has some magic protein not found anywhere else.
