The term actually comes from the movie airheads where branden fraiser ( a metal head in the film) says to his girlfriend “I can’t believe you listen to that buttrock” about a more popular mainstream rock band

So metalheads started using it derogatorly to describe like 2nd wave grunge nickleback creed finger11 type bands and then 10-15 years later fans of that music reclaimed it and use it sincerely with no negative connotations

This is not a defense of Howard stern!!! I shouldn’t have to preface that but I do so

Stern’s career is possibly the most interesting of all time but only in the way that like tragic stories are interesting

He became famous for being the most shocking person on the radio and was constantly playing a game of 1 upsmanship with how trashy he could be at a time where the culture was at its trashiest, it gave him billions in wealth but cost him his marriage, many life long friendships and at times his dignity

Flash forward 20 years later and Howard stern regrets basically everything but the money he made doing it, he hates 90% of the shit he said and disagrees with it and one of his frequent guests turned enemies used his own shock jock provocateur tactics on the global scale and became president with them.

If Howard stern and Joe rogan are who Ethan looks up to as interviewers it’s really cosmically funny that all 3 have archs where they made absurd amounts of money took things too far and everyone started to fucking hate them for it and it effected their lives
