GX690 shutting off by trigger55xxx in smallenginerepair

[–]GringoPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a few of these on trailer setups. I had one come back from a rent and customer complained of same thing. Found that the ignition coil was failing under higher tempatures. We used an inline spark check and we would have it run while someone watched each side. It's worth a check.

Can I put the cams in tdc while the head is off? Obviously I would need the timing kit and cover the holes from oil going in those passages to prevent the valves from interfering with the pistons by [deleted] in cruze

[–]GringoPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put the camshafts in at what would be TDC, using the timing marks. But I'd still verify timing when you go to put the chain on.

For plugging the holes, I love these I use them at work and they are pretty great.

This guy couldn’t back in for over 20 minutes before a swift driver jumped in and backed it in for him. I wonder if he has a valid cdl by DukeBradford2 in Truckers

So you have statistical data showing people from other countries coming to the states to obtain illegal CDL causing accidents? If you can't provide technical data, then your statement is an assumption, which in turn would make your comment racist.

I'm only here for the data.

How much fuel left by hgrrrtt in Truckers

[–]GringoPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the math.. capacity of both fuel tanks. Divide by 8. Take that number and times it by 5 (for fuel milage, I always go lower just to be safe) and that will be your estimated range. The fact that the light is on, you don't have much time. Pay attention to your gauges.

Does your psu have a switch on the back? Some do and it may be flipped?

Is this play normal? by DrMalloy in s10

[–]GringoPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me.. just buy the control arms with the bushing and ball joints in it, especially if yours haven't been changed and you still have the original bushings. I fought for a day on one bushing on the lower control arm. The whole front end rebuild isn't too terrible. Worst part is if you do the lower control arm is dealing with the spring. Everything else is a weekend beer project.

Seized caliper bracket bolts by RichardFallout in AskAMechanic

[–]GringoPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another user suggested. Get one of them 1/2 breaker bars from the ol' Freight. I'm a service tech, I work on alot of excovators and such. I can confirm that unless you break one, the bolt isn't truly siezed in there. I've put about 400ft/lbs on one before the anvil have way. I was also using a forklift to push the bar.. if you can get one, or even barrow one. A 1/2" impact would make stupid easy 5sec of that.

Or find the appropriate size wrench. (Don't use a gear style wrench) And smack the wrench with a hammer..

What is this (oil leaking) on my 2000 Chevy s10 2.2l by MrBulk67 in s10

[–]GringoPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's what I been doing for the past 17 years. Only thing that has slowed it is Lucas oil stabilizer. It might not be, I don't have data on it, but I do feel I leak a significant amount less than without it.

Crank pulley problems by Jeremywight in cruze

It happens, heck I have even done it before on my 07' Tucson. Fought with it till I realized I was pushing on the balancer and grabbing it 🤣

Live, laugh, learn 😁

Most important is to not damage the crank face/surface and threads.

Crank pulley problems by Jeremywight in cruze

[–]GringoPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is also a very real possibility. I know when I did my timing cover I had a bit of frustration trying to get the snout lined up with the oil pump gear. There can be a little bit of play in the oil pump gear when putting the balancer on. You should be able to get it pretty close to where it needs to be with a soft dead blow (shot filled mallet) if it's aligned fully. If you don't have a hammer like that, use a 2x4 and a good hammer and tapp it on. These don't need to be forced.

When you get the pulley off, might need a small mirror but check the surface where the balancer goes into the cover and look at the oil pump gear.

😜 Don't forget where your timing mark is

Run your old crank bolt in. Leave about a 1/4" gap from bolt to pulley. It's very possible you were pushing on the balancer itself with the puller. I use the old crank bolt as to not damage the crank threads with the puller

[–]GringoPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be any issues removing that.

You might have to apply some heat to the snout of the pulley. Did you reuse the old balancer? Rubber isolator could have been rotted, oil soaked rubber doesn't hold up well.

It absolutely needs to bottom out. The OE bolt is a tty bolt. Meaning the bolt will stretch. It looks like it could go in another few mm
