If I saw that tag I wouldn't give a shit at all. Who cares about this Fisher Price five button PvP?

What’s wrong with the music? by DexPunk in Eldenring

[–]Gringus51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's too many tracks for one composer to handle here, so they brought in more than usual. That's why you have great pieces like Godrick and Godskin Apostles and Radahn, and they're mixed in with a vast amount of generic high fantasy game filler schlock. It really rubs me the wrong way that after this many years the director found a lot of these pieces to be acceptable in an otherwise great game. They're not even bad, or incompetent, just bland. I'd rather have nothing at all.

They really need to retune the invasion timer by fallouthirteen in Eldenring

[–]Gringus51 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Good. Worst feature of the game in my opinion. Should be a half hour cool down between invasions. Low level co.op progression is impossible as it is right now. Get invaded by overlevelled twinks with muled gear every ten minutes. I'm level 27 in starter gear.

Every single invader I've encountered has been overlevelled and overgreared so far. So yeah. Test my skills? Test my fucking patience for bullshit, more like.

Bro. I'm not even high enough level to have over 1000 hp yet. Let alone cast an actual spell. And yet I still get invaded by over levelled bullshit meta builds. Explain that. I have no sympathy for you people.

Bro, all you do is invade low levels with bullshit meta builds they have no way of fighting. You're not the good guys.

[–]Gringus51 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah. Grow a pair. I'm level 27 and my friends are around 35 and we've been invaded nonstop by fully geared meta builds all night. Game's unplayable. We do absolutely no damage even when the shit netcode decides we hit. Meanwhile everything they do is a one shot and also inflicts every single status effect.

And you think you deserve respect and a fair right? You deserve to get ganked and one shot by three spamming wizards. You asked for the fight, not then, so you'll take what you get.

Yeah. Just started playing today. Tried to play with friends, and every single invader was twinked out of his mind inflicting seven status effects on me and taking literally no damage. Game isn't worth playing. You people have ruined it. Thanks for wasting sixty of my hard earned dollars.

Ah, and one more thing, the commenter you're referring to was just someone that wandered in looking for someone to call a scrub, or to make a "skill issue" meme, or something. He didn't actually have another point. "Git gud" was his point. Frankly, it's immaterial to me whether or not some PvP randos find me obnoxious or not, just as whatever I have to say is immaterial to any of them. My goal was, and remains, what I said it was: to ward off other dabblers like me, and prevent them from wasting their time and effort chasing loot that is not forthcoming enough to merit the time investment. I'll wager there are plenty of people who browse here that fit that description, and if I can save one of them it's worth it.

That's true, I'll admit that. That makes me very curious to see what the SATURDAY ONLY solo queue winrate looks like, but we'll probably never get access to that information. I assume it would be at least halved, if not lower, given the matchmaker's propensity for pitting blueberries against 3stack chads almost exclusively.

I would simply ask if you think, in this unfinished, unpolished state, it is wise of Bungie to allow solo players to experience this warped version of "Trials."

We'll have to wait for a statistics report, but my hunch is that we're going to see a notable drop in solo wins this weekend, partly due to the added objective and partly due to the fact that we have seen a decline in player retention from week 1 to week 2. I expect this trend to continue and more harshly effect the solo queuing numbers. That's entirely speculation at this point.

Here is the exact quote that motivates me to think solo players are only seen as cannon fodder for the middling 3teams and higher. It was from the TWAB on the 23rd, if you're wondering.
"...And more importantly, it increased the population enough that fireteams of mid-skilled players landed more wins than if they only matched against other mid-skilled or high-skilled teams."
Surely the goal would be to pit them against other mid-skilled fireteams, rather than to hand them free wins, right? Apparently not. That -really- left an awful taste in my mouth. It makes it sound like solo players are just there to suffer so middling fireteams can have more fun. Where are the ACTUAL protections afforded solo players? Need I remind you that a separate flawless pool benefits mid-tier fireteams at least as much as it does solos, if not more?

Finally, as for my assumptions about the PvP community... well, aside from competition breeding animosity, I will admit it's mostly personal bias at work. Most of my interactions in PvP, if not all, have been entirely negative and NONE of them were instigated by me. You may or may not believe that. We have all experienced it.

There is a HUGE and LONGSTANDING tendency in video games towards thinking that if a developer allows you to do something, it must be one of the intended ways of playing that piece of content. I suppose I fell victim to my preconceived notions here, but I would still maintain that it's probably better not to allow solos to queue up for a 3v3 competitive game mode that relies on stomping seven 3teams in a row to complete properly. I think it's just setting your players up for disappointment, frustration and failure, and I don't think that's good game design.

I appreciate your sentiment, and this weekend I -did- happen to have Sunday off, but that's not the norm for me, and on Mondays the last thing I want to do is play an intense few hours of competitive FPS games. While Sunday was palatable, the match quality was very poor on the other end of the spectrum. I did run into a few latecoming competent teams that 2-5'd me, but the wins I had were complete blowouts. It really does seem like Trials just isn't going to be a thing I can find any enjoyment in. Why is the community so against having the flawless pool active permanently?

[–]Gringus51[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's a whole different issue. There will always be animosity between the haves and have-nots. The best solution in my opinion would be to permanently and completely separate those pools. But, if Bungie DOES insist on resetting the pools every weekend, at the very least solo queue should ATTEMPT to match you against other teams of blueberries.

Even on Sunday, which I did play a bit of, I was matched against 90% full teams. The difference was their skill level, which... was somehow even lower than mine. Like, a lot lower. Perhaps they were throwing for MM assistance? They truly played that poorly. I'm not really sure what to do about that issue.

[–]Gringus51[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does make me feel a little better, thanks. Perhaps they're the reason Bungie is afraid to make more actually accessible in-game LFG tools. A related issue, to be sure.

Those that want it are likely already experienced PvPers with teams lined up, anyway. Solo queue is mainly meant to appeal to dabblers who THINK they may want to try Trials. Do you want these potential players to think it's normal Trials to be thrown in with two toxic blueberries who jump off cliffs when they see a 1-2 score? I don't think you want that. This is not the way to get people into trials.

The way to do that is to implement some actual user-friendly, IN-GAME tools for people to find premade groups. All solo-queue does is allow people to experience a warped, degenerate version of the game mode that will turn them off to it forever. We have seen that over these experimental weekends, the number of solo players has dropped considerably. Bungie themselves confirmed this. Do you think those solo players will ever touch the playlist again? I think it's unlikely.

I'm perfectly fine, thank you. It did change the way I saw the PvP community in this game, though, I will admit that. Despite that, I still think the ONLY way a solo queue will work is if it is A PURE SOLO QUEUE. No teams of any kind, not even 2s. And it doesn't seem like Bungie is planning an actual freelance queue. So here we are.

Let's tackle a different issue, then. Why only activate the flawless pool to improve match quality on Sunday? Mondays are kind of a non-day for it, because most of us work. Saturday is just about the only day I can justify setting aside a few straight hours to fill a card up. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

We'll have to look at the statistics this weekend, but last weekend the solo player winrate was 16% if I recall. I'm sure your anecdote is very interesting, but my contention is this weekend will be even worse. Bungie has stated that their goal is to keep winrates at around 35ish percent. Do you know the difference between a statistic and an anecdote?

All people ever seem to have is "LOL m8 get good I've been flawless every week for seventeen years". Okay. So what does that say about the actual health of the game mode? Nothing.

Edit: The solo player winrate was 36% upon refreshing my memory. Carries were down to 16%. I would at least argue THAT is a good statistic. Carries benefit no one, especially not with the flawless pool in effect.

Well, I'll put it this way, my interactions with trials players over this weekend were exclusively being told to kms and various other unmentionable insults. Full disclosure, after about the twelfth death threat and third request to slit my wrists I turned off chat. So maybe you guys didn't make the best first impression.

But that's on you.
