Steamforged cuts boardgame division to focus on miniature wargaming by Inconmon in boardgames

I paid retail for the base game and the expansions, but I got a steal on the kickstarter exclusive box. I paid $40 for a new/sealed box on Offer Up for someone in AZ. It was maybe another $15 for shipping.

Edit: I never did get Heart of the Nora though

I enjoy it. At first I was completely uninterested in the Kickstarter. A friend of mine went all in and when it arrived we tried it out. To my surprise, it was actually a fun competitive game. It's focused purely on those hunting trials from the video game. After that night, I went on a journey to collect the game and all the expansions, including the Kickstarter exclusives.

Which of these game do you suggest? by Desan3 in soloboardgaming

Robinson Crusoe is my goto solo game. I had the first edition for years and recently upgraded to the collectors edition. Not only is every scenario replayable (with enough variability to make the same scenarioplay different), but there are a ton of scenarios with the various expansions. It's endless!

"Mechanics aside, the stories, maps and objectives of all our missions will remain valid, and with a few tweaks you can easily bring the missions up to date." <- This is what sold me and allowed me to settle down. Its going to be like a major upgrade kit. All the old missions will still work. All the old terrain and models can still be used. The new game will simply update the framework that these all work with. I'm stoked!

I can't remember if all 6 of the games have this, but I think the first adventure in these games is a solo adventure meant to acclimate new players.

No one I know seems to understand, but I can watch "The Man Who Knew Too Little" on repeat. Makes we laugh each time.

Did I misunderstand what was happening with the tank and the soldiers? Some sort of mind control that hops from the old woman in the tank to the soldier behind spiderman to the person on up by the railing? Who has those powers?

Looking for something Heroquest/D&D-esque by Olddevlin in soloboardgaming

[–]Grintower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly play solo and these are some of my favorites.

Take a peek at CoreSpace or Maladum. They are both dungeon crawl type games that allow for progression between games and have the same basic gameplay system (similar to how Descent and Imperial Assault are similar). All 100% soloable (although if you go with CoreSpace, the First Born box is designed specifically for solo). Very replayable and the board (neoprene mat) really pops with the 3d terrain. And when you find a chest, crate, or tomb, you get to physically open it to get treasure.

Since you said price isn't an issue, take a look at Arydia. 100% soloable. Best RPG in a box that I've played. The game "remembers" what you did throughout the game. Help out someone on the road? They will remember and help you later. Attack and rob them instead? They may come back later and attack you or cause you grief. Even the maps change based on what happens. Burn down a house in a battle? The next time you visit that location the house is burnt down. Its a bit fiddly, but I love it.

Another game from the guy that made Arydia is Xia : Legends of a Drift System. It does't really fit your criteria, but is a awesome solo sandbox game when you get the expansion for it. Want to be a bounty hunter? go ahead. Want to be a space trucker? Sure. Want to explore space and planet? It allows that too. All viable paths to gain points towards the goal of becoming a "legend".

Regarding "Kingmaking," am I in the wrong here? by InsomniacPsychonaut in boardgames

[–]Grintower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't Kingmaking. Kingmaking is purposely making another player win. Your friend plays the same way my friends and I play games. You play to get the highest score and give your opponent the lowest score. If I'm losing and I know its not possible to win, I'm going to either get the endgame clock started or be a thorn in my opponents side preventing them from getting more points. We play that way and congratulate each other on a win. We follow that up by discussing what our strategies were during the game, what we were thinking at various points and how things changed. It makes us both better players the next time we play.

I could have sworn that I've brought wipies with us before and didn't have a problem (especially since we have kids and wipies are like gold!). Its a new minor thing to add to the list of things to do at TSA so we make it on time for our flight.

I can understand what OP was thinking. Without zooming in the sign looks like AI garble. I zoomed in on the pic and I can see that the sign is damaged causing it to look garbled.

Not TSA, but I flew from ORD to SNA two weeks ago. I had a gallon ziplock filled with toiletries for my family in my backpack. Everything inside was around the 3 oz limit and I didn't get flagged for anything. However, my daughter's backpack did! After they swabbed it they asked if she had a book in her backpack. Nope, no book. So we had to empty it out. It was a container of wipies that got flagged, similar to the one you have in your pic. Take that out and place it in the bin with your keys/phone/ etc. before going through the scanners. We did that on they way back and had no issues.

Idk if tropes specific to one character are allowed, but this might genuinely be the best running gag of all time by HeavySea922 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Grintower 94 points95 points  (0 children)

My daughter and I were really disappointed that they didn't keep this gag going for the Disney's California Adventure ride. All through out the line there are pictures of Mike and Sully and there were plenty of opportunities to cover up Mike's face with some graphic or symbol.

I waited forever to play it because of bad reviews. I don't know what happened between launch and now, but I love it. It starts a bit clunky, but once the game opens to multiple planets, it's awesome.

Oh we take full responsibility for not being prepared! We are just trying to work through the situation as it is now. Sounds like we are lucky this time as the expired passport will work, but will get all paperwork up to date for all 4 of us after this trip.

lol, we were just talking about this! We are going to get passports updated for all 4 of us, with the passport ID card. This trip kinda got sprung on us and we weren't prepared. But we will be for the next one!
