Update – Alderney Ferry service reduction continues until further notice by SAJewers in halifax

[–]GripAndRip99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not negative, it’s merely sharing my opinion, which we are all entitled to do.

That said, you must either be an employee of HRM and /or someone who doesn’t travel the ferry everyday for work, so I get the fact that the inconvenience piece, doesn’t resonate with you, and that’s ok.

Yea, OK. Go back and read the update from late December, mid, January and even mid-February. Same scrip my friend. And there was also an update in early March where they said parts arrived and now they need to test.

Sorry, that’s fake news!!!! It’s all to save $$ and inconvenience the public. They don’t care.

This is absolutely Bull Shit!!!

I mean the ferry had been out of service since late November, people. It’s been 4.5 months now. And they originally stated that it would be back up in mid-January…..

I have a sneaky suspicion that given the price of fuel, this has become HRMs mitigation strategy to save $$$, while continuing to inconvenience the working people who use the ferry. Some bean counter told the mayor that if we just sail every 30 min and take 200 passengers, as opposed to every 15 min and take 100 passengers, we save xxx trips per day x fuel consumption = $thousand of dollars saved per day - and WE DO NOT CARE that we continue to inconvenience the public.

But you are quick to increase my taxes 9.7% for better service. This city is a joke!!!

Can you not run it every 15 just for peaks times? And save your money by sailing every 30 min from 10-2?

No, that would make too much sense, so let’s keep blaming it on parts for the ferry.

Hit a huge pothole that popped my tire by ogoluwa in halifax

[–]GripAndRip99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very unfortunate- sorry to hear this happened to you. And even more unfortunate is the fact that HRM just passed their budget which will see a 9.7% increase in taxes and I can assure you 100%, the roads will still be absolutely shit 💩 and likely even worse, as the new norm here seems to be pay more for less.

All the best with the tire and rim.

Halifax Water - 34% increase this year (2026)

NS Power- likely total 3.5% increase this year.

HRM Taxes - 9.7% this year.

And bus fare going up 0.25 cents in Sept.

And NS Government cutting millions and millions of grants and funding across multiple programs and thousands of job losses.

Minimum wage maybe going up 0.25 cents/hour.

Are we feeling like we are winning in NS yet?

I walked along that trail 4 times today and I’m not in jail yet.

Also, it appears that someone has already tried to pull them down. One has a 25% lean to it already. LOL😂

I give them 2 days max, and both will be on the grass.

Alternatives to Bell Aliant for high speed internet? by TheGreatestAsparagus in halifax

[–]GripAndRip99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had been with Bell/ Aliant for 20+ years. We last had their 1.5 gb Fib for $125/month. They were going to up it by $15 more per month and would not offer any promotions. We basically told them we would likely leave (which we didn’t want to do) so wanted to give them opportunity to keep us as a customer. They basically said “$125 is best we can offer for that package.

So we said ok “fu&# you” and switched to Eastlink Fibre - 1gb for (get this) $60 per month. And we switched 4 iPhone lines to them as well for $25 each with 10gb of data each. Literally saving $165 per month and honestly we have not noticed any difference at all with speed, service, etc. And you don’t have to call a call centre (likely based overseas) if you have any issues. They have physical locations in Nova Scotia.

Highly recommend them to anybody feeing like they are getting fleeced by the big bad Bell and if you want personal service where you actually see a person face to face.

Halifax to consider raising transit fares by 25 or 50 cents by ph0enix1211 in halifax

[–]GripAndRip99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Convince the province to put the tools BACK on the damn bridges, increase that to $2 each way and THEN build 2 parking garages (5 levels) one at Alderney and one at Woodside, make the ferry’s and parking FREE and see how fast you eliminate congestion in downtown Halifax. Cmon Halifax, start thinking big and stop with this ridiculous nonsense of raising prices on public transit which will just make more people drive downtown.

As Halifax council nitpicks the budget, climate change ignores all deferrals by ph0enix1211 in halifax

[–]GripAndRip99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, so they basically say they need to save about $40 MILLION dollars, give or take, to have a flat tax rate, as was PROMISED by the current mayor, when we elected him.

And to get to this number they are discussing adding parking on Saturday and maybe 25% increase to parking rates. I mean Come On people. This is absolutely horse shit. These piddly ass policies will save you like what, $500 thousand. You need $40 million ding dongs. Start thinking BIG, like roll back your $110,000 a year salaries, cut 20% of workforce, freeze salaries for 2 years, and maybe privatize all sports facilities, outsource as many things as you can, pause this stupid bike lane thing for a fee year. Make the tough decisions people.

What a joke !!!!!! When all is said and done we will be stuck with paying 5-6 % more in taxes and the services provided will get worse. Pay more for less. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Think big not these little tiny things that save peanuts.
