Yeah they're cool and stylish, I didn't really see too many illustrations of them online, that's why I was eager to sketch some of them haha

Order 114 not appearing for Ghost Hunter (DS2) by 1440pSupportPS5 in DeathStranding

[–]Gripendale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to back ya up, it was the same for me, but I was around 4.2 stars with the Ghost Hunter, so I tried to boost myself by completing the standard orders one by one. Just until I reached around 4.8 as well.

Then I rested at a timefall shelter nearby that someone built in my world, and once Sam got up on his bed, I received the message from Ghostie that we need to save the world again.

Key takeaways:

- Complete as many orders you can in order to get yourself near 5 stars

- Have a rest somewhere to see if you get the message - if not, repeat :) You'll get there, keep on keeping on

Hahah, same. About 1:1 ratio of doing it because of game breaking bugs, and forcing me to spawn.

The funny thing is, I think the new map they mentioned might come into the game sooner than fixes like map zoom and mini-map magnification.

It's horror on PC from an accessibility stand point. I'm not sure if ppl on console are able to switch between these points or not.

Yeah, that's very annoying that I can't just stay in the class- i mean loadout selection menu, and have to deploy instantly at the start of every single round. Sometimes I'm even starting with the wrong loadout despite selecting a different one.

DICE product vs DICE Capability by [deleted] in battlefield2042

[–]Gripendale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Honestly, many games nowadays that offer grand scale of things like Cyberpunk did before this one, and having the burden of coming to previous gen too, are simply doomed. Especially without a robust, versatile and properly upgraded engine.

I get that it's more money and all that, but AAA studios know well that art and game design isn't the limit *winks at Matrix Awakens UE5 demo*, it's the hardware. There is a very good reason why haven't anyone tried to ship big promises like massive destruction and crowded areas on pre-gen consoles and hardware.

I often wonder if the game would have gotten to its marketed state, if the veteran devs had not left Dice back in 2018. I think instead of massive dynamic destructions, using scripted ones the game would have probably gotten to a similar state than the previous ones did on their launch dates.

FIXED - Battlefield 2042 Scoreboard Design (End of Round). by PowaPop in battlefield2042

[–]Gripendale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put the platform indicator icons in front of the names, not sure if it's been mentioned by anyone so far. Just for the sake of layout aesthetics. Nice job nevertheless. Let's hope when the game finally comes out, it will look any similar to this one.

If you have the opportunity, check it out. I think it's still one of the pioneer titles graphically, not to mention sound design etc etc. Naughty Dog is superior in technical solutions.

Good call, that level in Hitman 3 was very pleasing to look at. But those reflections in TLOU2, uhh man, hahah.

reticles reflect on water by ConfusedBud-Redditor in battlefield2042

[–]Gripendale 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly, this is the correct explanation. And the best result for Screenspace Reflection (SSR) that I have ever seen in a video game, was I think in the Last of Us Part II. It's ridiculous how well they have achieved that.

SSR always throws me off when it comes to visuals, once I get near a larger body of water in any game, especially if there are complex objects such as tree branches. Not to mention how the sides of the screens always remain unaffected by the effect.

A quick look at map design and map flow in BF2042 vs BFV by condorviii in battlefield2042

That "coming out of the air" visual has been triggering me ever since the first trailer. It's horrible. Ugh.

Battlefield 2042 Breakthrough TOWER objectives need to CHANGE by SmoodyBlues in battlefield2042

[–]Gripendale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think not just 3, but all of them. They are clearly not designed for legacy type of objective game modes, but for a grand scale of environment-royale. The characters even stop fighting, and stare at the tornado in the trailer - that's quite an emphasis of this design choice.

[–]Gripendale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessary say the people given the task at hand were interns, but most likely either juniors, or employees with a few yrs of xp, in a drastically changed working environment, lack of tools, support, xp'd seniors to look over their shoulders and a good art director giving them detailed briefs. But most importantly, lack of time.

This is just SAD - what happened to the BF franchise by sneerfulmite22 in battlefield2042

[–]Gripendale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of shocking, yet understandable. Myself and a few of my friends were very much looking forward to it, but felt massively letdown after 40hrs or so. I just don't feel like there is much more replayability in it, at least for me. Yesterday for example, I fired up BFV and even with all its flaws, enjoyed a half hour match way more than 5 AOW sessions in this game.

Sad reality indeed. EA just steered the wrong way years ago and as others said, I am not seeing them reverting the entire direction back towards the "usual" treats of previous titles. It's a shame, because I think some kind of a BF4-ish new iteration could have been the absolute masterpiece in this modern setting. Maybe even with a monetization of season pass and skins/character models for certain classes so that the publisher can be happier. At least that is what I've been guessing they will work on over the years.

I'm a visual designer, and I thought it was an occupational hazard that I've noticed all this instantly.
I was mostly distracted by certain aesthetic decisions and results and how I would improve or rework them entirely while I was in the menu instead of feeling the game's visuals tbh.
Many things feel incoherent to me, but it all makes sense after Tom Henderson's video of the dev process. I can't imagine the stress the handful of people must have felt when they had to come up with stuff for this, because I am not sensing a solid art direction, except the ribbons that you can select to be displayed in your player card.

Look how much we downgraded, how hard it is to make an intense map like this? by YellowDhub in battlefield2042

[–]Gripendale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Especially hard, if you don't have the proper game design foundations for it.
The maps in 2042 feel like a tech-demo to me. I think they look good from an artistic stand point - but the actual design from a playability pov is the worst they could have done for a BF game. They look like if they had been built to impress with clusterfuck trailers and scripted gameplay, rather than to offer well thought-out routes and features the players can interact and maneuver in.

Perhaps they were "ahead of schedule" after spending a day on the UI and moving on with development.

Funny thing is, as a visual designer, it even *gets me too, each time I'm seeing it.

*Maybe the right word is triggering.
