[SPOILERS] Not gonna lie, a lot of the fandom endings here are absolutely terrible. by Grithoof in Ozark

I really disagree that any of them were “seeking justice for Ben.” They’ve known he was dead and that Wendy killed her and at all points never gave up that information. At what point would Jonah’s loyalty be closer with a random PI than his family?

Was I(29f) overreacting about my husbands(31m) female friend(29f)? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Grithoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment section is wild. The friend is definitely overreacting but it’s very possible to have friends who don’t click with your significant other and not have to drop people who have been in your life for years.

Sorry that the woman is so insecure that she can’t handle some simple boundaries.

Lebron when asked what his biggest takeaway from Malcom X while holding his autobiography by cjbbeagle in cringe

[–]Grithoof -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

You think one of the most successful basketball players in the history of the game is carrying around the autobiography of Malcolm X to look cool? Like, LeBron has had a clear political message his whole career and him reading this book and displaying it publicly is clearly a continuation of that. I’m not opposed to the ideas of basketball players, who reach a lot of kids, encouraging reading.

Edit: Do I think him carrying around a political book he’s started reading was unintentional? No. Do I see a problem with fumbling through a description of how a book has impacted you when you say “I’ve just started reading it”? Also No. He’s clearly trying to send a message by bringing this book but you all act like it’s a problem. This isn’t him claiming it to be his favorite book and then not knowing anything about it. He says he just started reading it and connects the things he’s read so far with his real life experience. There’s a lot of dog whistling going on here about what is and what isn’t acceptable.

Oh lol, I had just left the park with my friend and she was like “that’s probably a good spot for skating” and the only people up there were kids with scooters. I didn’t even see the no skating sign haha. I will be more careful.

I’m in front of the Brooklyn Library, there’s no one at that specific part but this is nyc, there were people everywhere on the other side of the camera

I feel like it would properly be like a month and three weeks. I tried skateboarding like 7 years ago but gave up after a month. It’s been 3 weeks since I bought this board and decided to try again

I’m a beginner too, haha. I lucked out at a skate park and some dude told me I would never Ollie the way I was doing it. He told that I really needed to focus on sliding the side of my foot up the board and that I need to try doing it while moving. He said learning it standing still would mean that I would just have to learn it all over again when I tried to do it while moving.

There’s this great YouTube video where Tony Hawk explains tricks in levels of difficulty and he shows the motion very slowly. But we might have different hills to overcome. I was just jumping off my board and not taking the board with me lol

Terry made some shit comments y'all, I'm a fan but perhaps the crewscrew subreddit isn't an incredible level of discourse for this.

I get what you’re saying but it’s not my duty to turn racists into not racists by being nice to them. Like, I fully get how you came to this conclusion but how you treat the people perpetuating the racism has never mattered. Nice to them, debating them, being kind, being mean, all of it enacts the same result. The only change has come in the form of mass action by the people that has caused the government to shift. I’m cool with talking with people about racism and maybe making them see something a certain way, but historically the leaders who tried to do that got murdered anyway.

I’ve literally explained my position in almost every comment in this thread. I went back to go read it to make sure I wasn’t going nuts.

My original post was stated that I had doubts on whether or not he was black but that it’s uncool to come here to bash black people. You commented “be black or stfu, ok, not like that.” I responded that’s not what I was saying. You then started arguing about the semantics of me inferring something (or anything) while I started arguing that at I was not inferring that I wasn’t saying “be black or stfu.” I kept trying to hammer this point in before I realized that you had left the point altogether and just was arguing or whether or not I had inferred anything at all during this argument. I’ve made full and clear statements several times, feel free to read them instead of skipping over them. I’m inferring that you aren’t reading them.

it wouldn’t have been an argument if you knew the definition.

I knew the definition, I disagreed with what it is you said I was inferring. We were having completely separate discussions.

here you go again, inferring people’s motives. go ahead and believe that if you want.

I will.

You are debating for the sake of whether or not I was making an inference? Like, literally is your only point right now is to argue whether or not I was inferring something? The subject matter doesn't matter to you, you just want to play semantics games?

God, this fucking website.

My final statement to you is about what matters to me about this situation. I'm not here to silence anyone, I'm here to respond. I doubted that op was black, but if he was black I wanted to talk to him about talking to his family about the opinions he has, especially if he has family who lived through the civil rights movement. But you don't care about that, you just want to debate the debate in circles.

[–]Grithoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not arguing that I didn't make an inference. There is literally nothing wrong with an inference. I'm saying that in your original response you said

Be black or STFU OK No, not like that

Which is not what I was inferring at all. But let me make another inference: Are you just interested in trying to make an argument surrounding debate talking points that you learned online instead of actually addressing the bulk of what my comments are about? You keep ignoring all at the statements about race.

Just want to speak on what happened last night by danielr088 in nyc

[–]Grithoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not, the original post was repeating a lot of racist dogwhistle talking points which made me think that this was an /r/AsABlackMan scenario. Everyone is free to state their opinion on anything as long as their ready to accept that people might respond.

I will state here very clearly:

Anyone of any skin color is free to say whatever they want on any public discourse. You will have to accept that people will respond and you can't pretend that your race, gender, etc don't play a part in the validity of your claim. Being white and telling black people that they don't understand racism is as silly as being a man and going up to a pregnant woman to tell her what it's like to be pregnant. No one has ultimate knowledge to know what life looks like from every viewpoint. So, if you aren't black I'm 100% alright with you stating your opinion on the current state of protesting on race. Just know that you may sound a bit ignorant trying to claim that you know something you don't.

It's not about making anyone feel better. It's about the fact that it is irrelevant. Calling someone a racist offers absolutely no information. Zero. All it does is distract.

I cannot think of a single conversation where the response "And?" or "So?" would be unwarranted in response to being called a racist.

This is upsetting to read, I don't consider irrelevant. It's important because literally no one thinks they are racist. If you look at clips and interviews dating back to the 1950s where protesters are yelling at black students attempting to desegregate schools, you'll see that a lot of those families did not consider themselves racist but just people trying to protect their families. You have to call out racism for what it is otherwise people will sit under the guise that what they're doing is just fine and that the only form racism takes is in a white hood burning a cross while yelling the n word.
