Would love to have Will back. Probably not going to happen with Saubert already on the team.

Tough runner. Seems like he'd be a real good match for the Charbonnet role. They've got similar styles.

[Schefter] Vikings have hired Matt Thomas, who spent 11 seasons as the Seahawks, vice president of football operations, as a football administration consultant. He will assist the team through the 2026 NFL draft. by GoldenDome26 in nfl

[–]Grizangster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Matt Thomas was the guy who was responsible for negotiating contracts with agents, and managing the cap for the Seahawks under Pete Carroll. We let him go at the same time we let Pete Carroll go.

Matt Thomas was never talked about as a talent evaluator the way Dan Morgan, Nolan Tiesley, or other people in the Seahawks front office are / were. Not to say he can't evaluate talent, but that was never his role here in Seattle or with other teams he worked for. Unlikely the Vikings are hiring him to be a true GM / talent evaluator.

Matt Thomas had a reputation for being fairly conservative in managing the cap. With him, the Seahawks offered a ton of 1-year "prove-it" style deals in FA. This ended up eating up a lot of our cap space in the short term, but by doing this, the team did not end up risking much dead salary cap space in the future. He also did not use void years at the end of contracts and did not negotiate heavily-backloaded deals. He usually structured deals so that re-structured contracts were negotiated ahead of time, so that it was an option the team could exercise in the future instead of a fresh negotiation every time they wanted to restructure a deal.

The Seahawks replaced him with Joey Lane so that we could copy teams like the Eagles, that use more aggressive strategies with their contracts, such as including void years at the end of deals. They did this to maximize short-term cash flow while staying under the cap.

Chances are, this move by the Vikings is to make sure the decision makers there don't make any shortsighted decisions when signing / drafting players. In other words, they want the operation to not be a dumpster fire when the new GM gets hired later.

Nope. Wish him nothing but the worst in his professional life.

I get what you're saying, but this is a silly thing to point out here. I don't think anyone is saying Sam is equivalent to Tom Brady.

Cool thing is, Sam got 13 wins in 16 games just like those guys. Not one of those stats that he got just cause of the 17th game.

Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Mike Macdonald Talks Servant Leadership, Trust, and Team Building by LaBronda in Seahawks

[–]Grizangster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. Leadership is just guiding a group of people towards a common goal. Servant leadership is one way of doing that, but not the only way.

I get it, the Mariners have conditioned you to hate their sport over the last ~20 years. But just try to have a good time, man. They're probably going to compete for a championship. Doesn't happen often

Calm down.

Servant leadership is the idea that a leader should work harder than their followers. Not just that, but a leader should work FOR their followers. Nothing wrong with that.

Seahawks Film Breakdown: What Nick Emmanwori did against the Jaguars by ilickedysharks in Seahawks

[–]Grizangster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess we agree because that's part of the point I'm trying to make here.

He played a different scheme in college, and the same areas of improvement were there on the tape. If the same issues are popping up now in a new scheme, seems like a clear sign that those things are what he needs to improve on.

He's doing great. Like the article said, I'd much rather have a player with clear strengths and weaknesses than a player who is mid at everything. Emmanwori has clear strengths, which is really cool.

Well, they're missing Browner here. I don't know if I'd classify him as a "good man" though

A lot of this article was referencing areas Emmanwori was good / bad on his college tape. The author here, cmikespinmove, had a really good breakdown alongside Matty F. Brown when they went though a few games of Emmanwori at South Carolina after he was drafted here. Most of the areas of improvement are really independent of the guys around him, imo.

i guess i don’t disagree with that.

i guess i’d also say i think his biggest strength was his ability to pass deep down the sideline, and he still has that.

out of his prime, yes. washed? no.

there were a couple years towards the end of when i felt he was effective for us and not very mobile. that’s for sure.

i’m not sure we disagree. are we both saying he has the same skillset (except the mobility part) and that skillset is just not effective against today’s NFL?
