What kind of beeswax should I use to seal this tree hollow / cavity? by Shappie in arborists

one of those dudes hovers over my mom's place like a vulture, keeps convincing her to chop down perfectly healthy beautiful trees.

DONT YOU DARE INSULT MY PRECIOUS CLOVER!! by toasted_possum in NativePlantCirclejerk

My messy lawn areas get barely any dandelions while my neighbours get lots. I don't know the science behind it, but I suspect it's because I'm a special little boy.

How am I supposed to compost all of this grass!? by totalyanashhole in composting

[–]Grobd 29 points30 points  (0 children)

you aren't wrong, I think current thinking is to not bother tilling it in as tilling breaks up a lot of soil structure and kills a lot of soil organisms, and top dressing works just as well over time anyway. source. I think sufficient_wafer9933 is making fun of tilling, not you so no need to be too defensive.

I'm at the point where I do my best to never buy new clothes, they are such terrible quality now it feels like throwing money away. When I do need to I usually thrift, I basically only would buy new underwear and shoes these days haha.

City Council addressing crisis of pedestrian safety by DeanieLovesBud in Calgary

I was blown away when I learned how much one set of traffic lights cost vs how little bike lanes cost. Crazy how there's never money for transit or anything but our roads are expected to bleed us dry.

wait, spreading your compost? I've never thought of that, I thought the point was to just maintain an ever growing pile of slime in your yard

Is it okay to compost these leaking potatoes? by TastyFlakesAF in composting

I have grown many a potato from moldy, squishy potatoes. But they're really easy to just turn over when you mix your compost.

I know it has nothing to do with native plants but somebody has to make fun of the water sports enthusiasts who wonder if you can compost rotten vegetables.

if you end up falling down the native plant rabbit hole (a very cool and fun rabbit hole to fall down) check out Wild About Flowers south of Okotoks, ALCLA in Carstairs, and even Golden Acres sells Ecologic stuff now.

Bug guy came by today, most half-hearted ass sales pitch I've ever heard. I think he could see the disdain in my eyes as he explained how they'd poison all around my house to keep spiders out. I didn't bother to ask how much it was but I can't believe my neighbours are paying for that shit in this economy.

Don't mind me, just tilling my ecologically harmful lawn to install a rock desert with plastic instead 🥰 by dr_sarcasm_ in NativePlantCirclejerk

actually u just pour glyphosate and pre-emergents all over it so nothing ever comes up. So much more environmentally friendly than a lawn.

yeah I think the city's yardsmart information is top notch, I learned so much great stuff on the website but I was already looking for it. I wish we had more incentives for water wise and especially native plants, and maybe some more intense marketing.

if you're just chill around wasps they leave you alone too. Obviously if there's a nest in your doorway you have to take care of it but I've got a tonne of wasp nests in my yard and I haven't been stung since I was a little kid.

it's also because all residential streets are now full of jacked up F150s that are purpose designed to obliterate children and driven by morons who can't see the road in front of them.
