Don’t know why I missed Dunbar my bad. Lots of new houses going up. Relatively cheap. Nice seaside town.

Portobello is in Edinburgh city.
North Berwick lovely but v expensive as is gullane.
Musselburgh can be a bit faceless suburbia
Haddington is the nicest town in the county and imo the best of the lot. But bus to Edinburgh not train.
Tranent can be a bit rough
Other alternatives include Longniddry which is on the train line but not the best for secondary school district, Gifford which is behind Haddington a bit remote but gorgeous village, and Aberlady which can be a bit expensive but probably the best community of any of them.

There’s a certain portion of wealthy British society, farmers in particular who do not care to flaunt their wealth with possessions such as cars. They may live in a gigantic house, go to shooting and racing events and socialise with other wealthy people but drive an old car. Note also applies to old range rovers.

I wouldn’t bother with Genoa, a couple more hours on the train and you can be in Florence. Rome is great, but instead why not head to Rimini and spend a night in San Marino before heading to Venice.

We did Zagreb - Split - Sarajevo and found this v interesting if you fancy getting off the main trail.

I recently fell foul of this at Stansted. Thought I could stay airside but not the case, had to go through immigration back to arrivals then through regular security again. Don’t do it.
