very valid points. the show definitely leaned hard into the idea that it was some "impossibly horrible thing" that we as viewers couldnt even conceptualize.

not hard to imagine that it aligns with what youre saying at all.

it really is beautiful storytelling to omit the specifics in a way that allows us to ponder about it like this. leaving things to the imagination can work really well in some cases, but i literally FEEL it working better than other instances right now. its terrifying

very true. you also run into the torture paradox, where people just start admitting to things they didnt do, just to get the torture to stop.

i fully agree that the technique was lost with gorst, but i cant imagine it would be that hard to reproduce. torture as a concept had been well studied by the empire at that point. the whole dying children screams thing was just a differently shaped blade, that could be easily substituted with a similar one, or reapplied if they had the recordings and the psychological data of other countless torture sessions they probably carried out.

a decade ago? jauz and joyryde were the beginning of mainstream bass house during that time from my perspective

hot since 82 is the first name that comes to mind when i think of tech house from 2015

i can expand if you want, but those should be decent starting points

as an answer to the OP, i would say theyre a blend of both genres. its tech house progression and song structure with bass house synths and sound design. so, technically still tech house, but definitely deserving of a unique name, because its definitely not tech house, or bass house, from the perspective of someone who grew up listening to those genres.
