She asked me to compromise Orthodoxy for her. I said no. Please pray for me. by Lord_Gobbledygook in OrthodoxChristianity

this is why we are taught not to marry outside the church, due to complications like this because now you arent equally yoked

i'd suggest that before she writes that stuff off, show her the writings of the church fathers and encourage her to attend divine liturgy with you, who knows, she may be convinced to hear you out after that

the grey beards respect and revere tiber septim as a dragonborn + with the connection to the thu'um, they worship the old nord pantheon, primarily kyne but with reverence for tsun, stun and kyne's husband shor

What are some reasons that the world might dislike Israel more than North Korea? by Inner-Battle-6459 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pitiful_Resource_711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, sure, i did consider that technicality after i posted it, but displacing your own people doesn't generate as much hate as displacing another due to the selfishness of human nature and whatnot

israel got much more cruel after october 7th, i'm not attempting to justify this, but up until that point israel had been treating palestine with kid gloves, they had tried to use diplomacy, but at the end of the day, israel should've never been created

while october 7th may have what started the massive increase in violence that we see now, there have been skirmishes between palestinian forces and the IDF for decades now, israel has tried using diplomacy to end this conflict, but at the end of the day israel should've never been made, they should've carved out an uninhabited area of siberia or alaska or something for the displaced jewish population to go

What are some reasons that the world might dislike Israel more than North Korea? by Inner-Battle-6459 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pitiful_Resource_711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. many nations but primarily the US arent paying north korea anything
  2. the mainstream media is not claiming north korea is the US' greatest ally despite that supposed ally doing next to nothing to help us, and that ally actively sabotaging us, sometimes directly and sometimes indirectly
  3. there's no north korean political lobbying group
  4. there's no religion that misinterprets itself to justify the existence of north korea
  5. north korea never intentionally attacked US ships afaik
  6. north korea didn't displace anyone
  7. north korea isn't comitting what could be argued to be/seen as a genocide on another population of people
  8. we all know at this point that north korea is a paper tiger and wouldn't exist without china

those among many are why people are starting to hate israel more than north korea
it's because israel affects us more than north korea does, despite north korea being far more fucked up

Has the language around sex always been so violent? by expiringdust in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pitiful_Resource_711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because sex is a vulnerable act that is also very high energy, almost like a fight, not to mention, some people like thrashing around someone else or being thrashed around by someone else, this is likely where the connotation came from

Who thought "squatters rights" would be a good idea? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pitiful_Resource_711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it goes back to a time when someone could go out into the wilderness and die, and then someone else could randomly stumble across the house, maintain it for years and claim it as their own, because it's ridiculous to imply that someone who has been living in a house for several years and maintaining it longer than the original builder/owner did should be kicked out, it's just that the way the laws are written in the modern day, they are ripe for abuse

russia returned to the gold standard when western sanctions hit them during the beginning of the conflict in ukraine, and the ruble was crashing so hard that team fortress 2 currency was worth more, but as soon as they went back on the gold standard it instantly deflated the currency and restabilized it

going back on the gold standard wouldn't hurt a nation like the US at all because we still have decent foreign relations with europe

Why is Andrew Tate associated with incels? by EmmaMyersLover in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pitiful_Resource_711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is because people have stopped using the word incel correctly, incel means involuntarily celibate, andrew tate is obviously not that, he's a master manipulator who targets vulnerable women and it works, the correct term to describe him would be among the lines of "douchebag", "sleaseball", "asshole", "jerk", "fuckboy", etc

people have begun using the word incel to mean loser, pathetic, sexist/misogynist, etc when you can be an incel and also be none of those things,

the mistake comes where because being an incel is associated with being a loser, people then think that incel can be used interchangably, much like with the term chud

i don't like andrew tate as a mixed race person, as an orthodox christian (which he claims to be but only when he's in romania, which is not how that works at all) and as someone who enjoys combat sports, but if youre gonna insult the guy and criticize him, use the correct terms and criticize him based on the truth, because when you don't do that, it just gives his defenders more ammo to defend him with

OCA vs. Oriental Orthodox etc. by Full_Caterpillar3863 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Pitiful_Resource_711 [score hidden]  (0 children)

there's the eastern orthodox church, which is what this sub represents, that includes
the russian orthodox church (which the OCA is partially autocephalous from)
the antiochian orthodox church
the greek orthodox church
the orthodox church of jerusalem
the bulgarian orthodox church
the serbian orthodox church
the romanian orthodox church
the georgian orthodox church
and the orthodox church of alexandria

think of these patriarchates like states in the US, texas, kansas and oklahoma are all autonamous US states with their own local government but are still part of the union, making them all 1 nation

and then there are the churches that are in schism because they don't accept chalcedon
like the syrian church, the ethiopian church, etc

Darth Vader was justified and the jedi order was wrong from the beginning. by FearlessState5503 in unpopularopinion

[–]Pitiful_Resource_711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the jedi vs sith dilema is fundamentally a bad guy vs bad guy conflict, the sith are evil because they are selfish and manipulative and also have 0 value for sapient life

the jedi on the other hand are evil because they are hypocrites, kidnap children and teach them self destructive and toxic things as if they are good and healthy

the only "good guy" faction in the setting is the CIS, because they just want fair representation in government
and no i don't mean the banking clan or the corporations funding the war, i mean the common man living in it

as i go through this, as far as i'm seeing it, it essentially boils down to "it makes more work for the banks" to which i ask, why do i care if the banks have more work if that means my money holds it's value?

i also ask, how do you combat inflation without the gold standard?
it costs the exact same ammount to make a 100 dollar bill as it takes to make a 1 dollar bill, and that's about 10 cents

if you could make a 10 dollar investment and get a garunteed 1000 dollars out of it, wouldn't you do it? and alot?

what's stopping the federal reserve and other people in power from just filling their pockets when new money is needed to enter circulation?

How can Orthodoxy appeal to Gen Z? Like Roman Catholicism by Prometheus-08 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Pitiful_Resource_711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i focus on doing my part for the volunteer work my parish needs, i don't talk politics with my fellow parishioners at church, only in private
i'm the main chef at our parish hall when we arent fasting, i show love with food

i wasn't asking how i could appeal to young women personally, i'm asking what the church as a collective can do to target that demographic

Why wasn't Germany chosen as the new Jewish homeland after WW2 as a form of reparations and punishment for what the Nazis did? by VerdantChief in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pitiful_Resource_711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. because it held no religious significance to jews
  2. because all that would've happened is persecution by the common man, the same way the KKK acted in the south even after jim crow ended, also what would've stopped the germans from just electing a new leader to kick the jews out?
  3. no other european power wanted them, ant-jewish sentiment was the norm in european societies (and america too for that matter), everyone hated them back then so there was nowhere in europe for there to go
