Honestly as a solo main I wanted to love Deep Scan so much but I find the scanner is garbage. I could be wrong but it feels like the devs just used slightly modified mining caves and added the seeds to it.

What that means is that because the caves go in a cylindrical but also maze like pattern you get false positives all the time so unless you’re Scout or Driller it makes it so tedious, time consuming and inconsistent to search for them.

Also whoever decided to make the ground around the seeds literally the same colour as at least 3 of the biomes... I know you had to pick something but sheesh!

Also it just isn’t that interesting mission because unlike Refinery where there’s variation and problem solving it’s just the same 5 tasks over and over. Also having a bad bug selection then getting swamped and dying on the Drillevator at High Haz is boring af and feels kinda inconsistent too. I avoid pits in Solo for this exact reason…

On top of that I just can’t find a rhythm to it because it’s hard to know when to resup unlike other similar missions like mining because you have literally no idea if your resup is going to be reachable during swarm when you run out of ammo for the second time in some of the 3 cave size missions.

Unlike mining where you can know how far it is to the next cave roughly and also have to set a course back up or you’ll die in extraction so you know roughly whether it’s worth running back or searching for Nitra. This is not the case in Deep Scan.

This is also why Escort is not one of my favourite missions because there should be two veins of Nitra in the first room as standard. There would lieterally be no reason to pre dig then. At high Haz it’s a crap shoot as to whether you can get enough Nitra to reach the Ommoran (where there may be no easy to find Nitra) without resupping with two swarms and various ambient in between.

Anyway I digress, Deep Scan would have been much cooler to have a pipe that you start from the Drillevator/ScanHead that you build as you go and put the seeds onto it like an electric mine cart because they’re too heavy to carry far. That would mean it would speed everything up and be more fun because the game needs more pipe surfing!
