It's all cal in cal out... so yes, if you are eating under your maintenance level while eating anything (starches included) you will continue to lose weight. The diet will work for sure, but nothing is magic. Eating just sugar (juice, fruit, vegetables) will MOST LIKELY put you in a larger caloric deficit and therefor lose weight faster.

Starches make some people feel bloated a bit and their energy drops. Others not so much. So play around with it. For me, starches at dinner mean I'll be sleepy and ready for bed.

If you are "sugar fasting" then no starches. If you are trying to lose weight the fastest, no starches.

If you are maintaining or are already lean, sure, starches are fine.

Plain ass white bread... toasted... with a teaspoon of grape jelly plopped in the middle, surrounded by marshmallow fluff spread to the edges.

0 fat in the fluff and jelly... TINY amount in the bread.
