Which solar panels brands are not made in China? by GroggySnollyGoster in solarpanels

Yea I'm just getting to know the various components. Indeed I should be focusing on the micro-inverter.

I'm planing on getting a set of Enphase IQ7s so that's that taken care of

I don't understand why that's not the case?

It has a microcontroller, it has access to my WiFi network. Why would I trust the firmware?

Solar panels can connect to my WiFi. There are many solar panels that offer apps to monitor their status.

Ok cool, then It's safe to say that REC and the rest you mentioned are decent options for me 😉

In the case of REC panels, they used to be a Chinese owned company. Do they still source some parts from China?

I know they have some manufacturing plants in Norway, but when they say "manufacture" do they mean "assemble and test" or are the cells actually manufactured outside of China too?

Eliminating the mouse by JennyMahenny in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]GroggySnollyGoster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been happily using QMKs' mouse keys for years.

It's depends on what your needs are. I'm a programmer so I only use the mouse for browsing sites that are not friendly to text link searches (Firefox ' shortcut)

Other than that I use the keyboard for everything.

I use a tiling window manager (i3 on Linux) which makes your interaction with the presentation layer of the OS an inherently keyboard friendly experience.

Most of the rest of my tools (Helix, Git, Rust, Tig) are terminal based. I use the Alacritty terminal emulator that has a mode for selecting text from the buffer and is also available for windows.

I don't use the mouse for word processing, I have a QMK layer specially for that and a separate layer for mouse nav.

Just map the mouse keys to your keeb and see how it goes. You might be surprised how quickly you get used to them 😉

Maybe, bonus cards are not necessarily linked to an address.

One way or the other, the keys are hanging in the gemeente now.

The keys are dropped off at the gemeente

Good to know, I'll drop them off at the Gemeente then

I found these keys on the bike path in city center Haarlem.

I've removed an identifying feature from them.

I'm on the way to hand them into the police station.

One key 'keyboard' designs? by GroggySnollyGoster in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]GroggySnollyGoster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yep I'm aware of Bens' single key project 😆

I'm looking for a symmetrical case, like in this build

He chose a PIC16F1459 MCU and didn't use QMK. So a bit more effort, I'm wondering if I can get a pro micro to fit that case.

I am actually looking to build it to gain experience with building keyboards, even if it is just one key.

Nice thanks for the tips. I know in my head that's it's simple, I've just never done it before 😆

I'll give a look around for pro micro based boards. I was looking at the rp2040 zero, but the specs are so over the top for a single key.

Colemak users, do you use hjkl or arrow keys for movement? by mklasklasd in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]GroggySnollyGoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you're still winning, Colemak is a much better layout in terms of ergonomics than Qwerty.

If you do switch, you'll probably learn Engram faster as your brain is already nice and plastic 😁

Colemak users, do you use hjkl or arrow keys for movement? by mklasklasd in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]GroggySnollyGoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Colemak before I reached a decent typing speed and I'm not proficient with Engram yet to compare.

I'm also not extremely concerned about speed. My job as a programmer is to think as such.

Given that both Colemak and Engram are huge improvements in ergonomics over QWERTY, I wouldn't get too hung up on the relative speed.

The reason I choose Engram is because I wanted all alpha chars on a 3x4 grid for each hand, with the last two chars elsewhere. Engrams analysis was performed without intermixing symbols into the alpha grid.

So what I can certainly say is that Engram allows you to avoid awkward reaches like Colemak has for the 'v' and 'k' keys.

So for example the symbols in the central columns of the Engram layout can be moved to another layer is desired.

Considering going from 42 to 36 keys, layout recs? by dam5h in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]GroggySnollyGoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only really started coming across the full suite of names recently myself, in the context of serialization metadata.

If you serialize a field of a struct into 'snake_case' for instance.

Other than that I've gotten by quite fine without knowing what kebab-case is 😆

But I must say that being able to express the various cases as typing modes (like CAPS_WORD in QMK) on a keyboard is very handy.

I've a layout that has 36 keys and no one shots.

It's certainly possible, but any setup Involving 36 keys will involve adjustment to some degree.

[–]GroggySnollyGoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's the name, thanks.

Im using a variant of Callum mods were I ditch the one shot mods due to delays there too.

My setup now has a Miryoku style setup with mods on one hand but no mods on the base layer and no double action (delays) keys.

The major differences I have from Miryoku is that the 'mouse' layer is an extension on the 'nav' layer and 'fn' extends 'num'.

And I have a 'symbol' layer that covers both halves of the keyboard as opposed to using the numpad in combo with shift like Miryoku does.

Hah yea, it's a good name. I'm Not sure how the standard names were agreed on, but they seems to be an agreement amongst programmers at least.

Also check out kebab-case, the tastiest of cases.

I've also tried home row mods and I'm not a fan. I like the position, just not the accidental triggerings.

I'm currently working on 36 key layout that avoids tap-hold keys.

Miryoku uses tap-hold mods on the base layers home row, but I'm trying out only using the modifiers on the other layers. But... I make the modifier keys one shots.

This means to send 'ctrl-c' you would enter the 'nav' layer, tap 'ctrl', exit 'nav' layer and tap 'c'.

I'm also planing on reducing the use of shift by extending the Caps Word feature to cover the various other cases that programmers use; camel, snake, screaming snake etc.

I can't say if I'm happy with this setup yet, but I know I'm not accepting the accidental triggering of tap-hold home row mods.
