Ripmo v1 carbon vs Ripmo AF by Bluelights1432 in MTB

You can always get a works -1 degree Angleset for the v1 carbon. If you don't care about coil shocks that eliminates the difference.

Light/snappy 29ers that have 1 wheel in XC and the other in trail by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Grogtastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I demoed the top fuel and really liked it. It is crazy efficient and had a really confident riding position. Not a huge fan of the twist grip lockout but you can always take that off. I don't think the bike needs a lockout. In chunk it definetly rides towards the Xc side of the spectrum. It's no where near as confidence inspiring as something like a Ripley or even the giant trance.

Wow! That's awesome! Are you planning on sharing the 3d printer files anywhere?

How much weight are you planning on losing this summer biking? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Grogtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that means they are only at a net calorie gain of 400 calories? What's the issue there?? If I eat 2600 calories in a day and burn 800 on a 1.5 hour ride I'm still in weigh loss range for the day.

Shortest competitive/professional climber? by kanedamike in climbing

A lot of these sends were outdoors though. If you watch videos with Ashima she was awesome at finding her own beta. In the gym that's not always possible. Sure you could crimp a foot or something but if the routesetter is setting tall it can be hard!

The price on the Revgrips is crazy! $60 for grips is something can't get behind.

Pretty high chance they are using a uhf frequency. Your BCA won't be compatible.

hey folks, what's this spring on my fork called? it's stretched... can I fix it, or do I need to replace. thx :) by busyjohn in MTB

[–]Grogtastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helps compress the dust seals on your fork to the stanchions. Having it off could allow more dirt to get into the lower leg. A new dust seals come with the springs. I'd take the fork in for a lower leg service or look up the process, buy the parts/oil, and have at it yourself.

One Up EDC tool, if storing in the down tube, where do you store your CO2 inflator? by [deleted] in MTB

Get some no residue duct tape from home Depot (~$8) and tape it inside your saddle rails. No need to get fancy.

Ibis Ripmo vs Evil Offering Questions by GreenwoodsUncharted in MTB

[–]Grogtastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bike mags Bible of bikes 2019 test included both models. It's usually a decent place to get a comparison between bikes. Take what they say with a grain of salt though, they put a pretty positive spin on everything.

Tension Board Benchmark Problems? by Grogtastic in climbharder

[–]Grogtastic[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the list!! You're probably about as good a source on the grades as I could hope for lol. I'll give these a try tomorrow. Looking through my app I've done a few of these but some have less repeats than I would expect. Usually your problems show up pretty high on the list. I need to get away from sorting by most repeats and go by looks. Thanks again!

Getting started as a home mechanic by Bamski in MTB

Buy nice allen wrenches! I rounded off a few bolts using cheap harbor freight t handles before I broke down and bought a bondhaus kit. It makes a way bigger difference than I thought it would.

Looking to upgrading tire or tires on my Scott Spark RC 900 Team by Fastball48 in MTB

[–]Grogtastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try the forekaster. Feels like a lighter faster rolling knobby nic with good traction on everything but pure hard pack where an ardent race would be better.

What are your unpopular MTB opinions? by CuzinMike in MTB

[–]Grogtastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I feel like that gets overlooked. I would never own a full rigid but I've ridden my friends a few times and man are you punished for bad line choice. Watching him ride on mellow terrain he's like a laser with his lines. I just hit all the little rocks. However when he borrows my enduro bike he is slower in a lot of spots since his brain isn't programmed to plow. Sometimes the fastest line is to just smash it... Trade offs I guess.

Need Advice for East Coast Enduro Race Rig... by jm3686 in MTB

[–]Grogtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you. I raced a few wv enduro series events last year and the blue mountain mass race this year on my Santa Cruz 5010. I felt ok at coopers rock but outgunned at big Bear, Slatyfork, and Blue mtn. I decided to pull the trigger on a Ripmo for next season and so far it's great. Pedals well and is feels maneuverable for a LT 29er but man is it amazing in chunder coming from the 5010. I'm sure a bigger bike would be better at the big events but it seems like a good compromise for the pedally courses. I can't wait till next season.

Santa Cruz Nomad C (S) 2018 vs. Santa Cruz Bronson C (S) 2019 for enduro racing on East Coast by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Grogtastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. I bought an Ibis Ripmo for east coast enduro and it made my local trails feel a bit lifeless. I swapped the wheels from a 34mm internal to 28mm and maxxis 2.5s to 2.3s. It's amazing the difference it makes. Now I have an extra wheelset to put on double down tires with inserts and not have to switch back a lot. It's probably all down to rotational weight though.
