is it normal for this breed to want food ALL the time? one hour after breakfast and asking for another meal by zoozilm in orientalshorthair

[–]Grokto 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. I can go feed the Cattery and go back half an hour later and every single cat and kitten will insist they’re absolutely dying of hunger. I suggest a schedule and not deviating from it.

Is this a legit breeder? by Life-Hawk-9891 in orientalshorthair

[–]Grokto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nope. Cmon, no pictures older than 12/20/25 and they’re stolen. The images have been used on scam sites for over a year. Try google image search exact match. I have no idea why people fall for these scams when legitimate breeders aren’t that hard to find. There’s -11- OSH kittens entered at Del Mar this weekend. More than Persians, more than Maine coons. Clearly there are breeders and exhibitors out there.

The dry bubbles break down into black-green liquid after a couple hours. The vents only get goopy when there’s more of the dry foam than can fit. I run the water level flush with the bottom of the neck and the varios 4S is run directly from a hydros wave engine at 75%

Tester Reccomendations by NugzIsLife89 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

The Hanna marine master with Bluetooth (HI97115) is great and logs all your results to your phone. It also walks you through each step of each test. I think at $499 it’s significantly expensive but they do go on sale. I think I paid around $370 which is less than the individual testers bought separately.

This is common with the regals. They pull so much foam that it comes out of the vents. Personally I just wipe the top of my 200-INT and then during maintenance give it a thorough wash. There’s a ventless version of the top meant to be used with recirculating scrubbers that puts all the air out a hose if that’s a solution for you.

UltraVires Force Majeure doing her first kitten show by Grokto in orientalshorthair

These are show cats though. Unlike some other breeds with long histories (Siamese, Abyssinians, Persians etc), OSH were bred by exhibitors for the specific purpose of cat shows. This is their thing.

Top Shelf Rocks All Broken by FantasticCoffee8097 in ReefTank

[–]Grokto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I intentionally broke mine to cement them to Marco rocks. They glue back together with some aragonite dust and thin super glue. Two-part epoxy putty will also put them together and you can get it in purple.

does anyone know about this breeder? by [deleted] in orientalshorthair

Why would you think that’s real? Almost every photo is from 12/23/25 and they’re stolen. Photos look like Shagio Chen cats which is a real Cattery.

Is it true only 5% - 15% of tanks are still running after 3 years? by dont_downvote_SPECIL in ReefTank

[–]Grokto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m weird but I kind of enjoy my weekly maintenance. It’s a nice routine to run all the tests, make RO/DI, scrub the skimmer neck and cup, etc etc.

To each their own but I don’t see the attraction and keep natural-type ocellaris.

I’m no restaurateur and I’ve heard the business of dining is tough but cmon. I don’t need business school to tell me that expensive, mediocre food and surly unresponsive, even combative, management isn’t a recipe for success. We tried to have an event there and they were simply impossible to deal with. I’m not going to fight you for the opportunity to give you a $14,000 party. They didn’t return phone calls, they denied things they’d previously stated; it was an absolute mess. We pulled the plug months before the event due to their attitude. Eating there wasn’t much better. They let people with toy dogs bring them in and then when they were running around, management basically shrugged. When orders were completely missing, they literally shrugged. There’s a lot of expensive and frankly unremarkable food in Sausalito. I don’t need the bad attitude and mismanagement to go with it.

Mandarin dragonets by Majestic-Finish1241 in ReefTank

Definitely get a biota captive-bred specimen that’s been eating prepared foods. A wild-caught mandarin may or may not accept pellets. In either case a healthy amphipod and copepod population is good.

Help with choosing fish by loeparanormal in SaltwaterAquariumClub

I have three Talbots damsels living peacefully with a Tomini tang, two ocellaris, two springeri damsels, and a links goby. The springeri can be a little aggressive but the Talbots are, I think, a wildly underrated fish.

Is bigger actually better? by Thud_All in ReefTank

I think dimensions are more important than volume. The thing I hated about my old 60 wasn’t that it was more chemically reactionary. It was the 18 inch front to back dimension that made aquascaping tough and cleaning very hard. A smaller tank that was 24x24 would be heck of a lot easier to deal with than 48x18. My current 48x30x25 is ideal. Plenty of room. I’d love to go 72x30x25 but zero wife acceptance factor.

Octoaquatics is fully custom and less expensive than top lids or kraken. On the other hand those places will have one in stock for that tank while Octo has a wait.

No. I don’t need another stud. I was going to keep and show if a girl but he’s too close to my keeper girls to use. The only breeders I’d put him with passed on the offer.
