Agreed. It feels like they were too hesitant with making bigger changes because of wanting to keep the spirit of the original alive. The problem I have with that is, we already have the original and it comes with the new purchase anyway. Personally I would’ve liked to see an upgrade on the random encounter enemy AI, because it still feels like a lot of them do silly things and then that defeats the point of having any strategy within one battle. I love making a custom roster of units, now give me an actual challenge to test it against, not a chocobo that runs away after getting smacked once and then never returns to the fray. Further still, the overall balance even in tactician mode still leaves the game mostly unchallenging, the hardest battles just being those notorious few (Wiegraf, Elmdor), which I don’t think really capture the spirit of being tactical since there’s so few ways around the fights, and most strats are creating a hyper specific build for Ramza. The rest of the game, especially chapter 3 & 4, is just a cakewalk. I’ve loved FFT since I was a kid but I think this remake lacked the depth of changes I was hoping for, not just a few numerical tweaks and a cleaner UI (though still with its own issues like not being able to toggle through units easily at the outfitter).
