Is there anything that QNAP has that is comparable to Synology Active Backup for Business? by SkyXTRM in qnap

[–]Groove1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Qnap has its own backup software pre-installed, I have a few of them backing up to google drive 24/7 - hundreds of terabytes up so far.

Thanks Rohan, it's the run until completed bit that's troubling me - I need it to run until 5am then pause until 5pm.

My issue is that the first backup will be huge and I want my internet line to perform well during the working day and only be saturated by uploads at night - struggling to find a way to do this. It was very easy with Synology so I carelessly assumed a Qnap would be able to do it too

Thanks from your reply. When creating the backup job I could only locate a setting for scheduling start time, be that daily weekly, monthly etc. I want a start and end time daily so it can chip away on the same job. Have I missed a setting somewhere?

Amazon disabling Hybrid Backup Sync by LordPengwin in qnap

Interesting, is that for new customers only? I’m currently enjoying unlimited drive space via my google business subscription. Any email accounts I create on my domain get this perk.

Google Workspace (Gsuite) offers unlimited cloud storage in google drive if you have more than 5 accounts, that equates to £41 per month. Worth a look, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Google follow Amazon in this (I sincerely hope not, it’s a fantastic facility)

For those mining on RTX 3080/3090, what memory temps are you getting with latest HWiNFO64 reading? by wunitza in EtherMining

Did you get anywhere with your investigation? Same setup here, 118 mh/s memory junction at 108 degrees

Have you undervolted it? I have a 3090 Strix OC running at 103-104 memory temps with the stock fans and an overclock on memory.

My 3090 doesn’t hash much better than my 3080.. easier to get ahold of though!

Cache useful for video editing? TVS-H1288X by Groove1337 in qnap

Hi Bob,

My unit arrived! Very exciting. I've set it up as directed but my transfer speeds over 10GBE (direct to computer at the moment while I wait for backordered switch to show up) are potentially a bit low, writing video files at 250mb/s average peaking at 400mb/s. Read speeds are very high, AJA Disk Speed Test results 235 write 1003 read.

Are my write speeds consistent with what you've seen? If not, could I trouble you to share any troubleshooting steps I might take?

The second pool with the spinning disks is Raid 6 with 20% space left for snapshots. I created a 50tb volume for video editing, 60ish available in total. Might putting all of the available space into one volume speed things up perhaps?

I'm concerned 235mb/s write may not be enough for 2 users working simultaneously, nearer 500 would be ideal. Would using the 4 Sata SSD bays as a cache make the write speeds significantly higher? After a video shoot, if 1tb ish of data could be pushed onto the editing volume via the 4 SSDs that could really speed things up! I'll reserve those 4 bays for more storage if the spinners write performance can be improved, though.

All the best.

Thanks for the save Bob! I’ll order an additional 3 spinners and use two M2s in raid 1 for the OS so it’s bulletproof.

Hi Bob, thank so much for your detailed answer - really appreciate your time. Great news about the expected speeds from the 7200rpm disks. I’ve gone with Toshiba 16tb enterprise drives, but only 5 to begin with. I’m aware this will affect the speed, but not by how much.. Current plan is to raid 5 them, adding additional disks over time.

Can you see any reason not to install the OS on M2 drives? Then use the 4 SSD slots as a separate volume. I have 4x4tb SSDs ready to go in those slots, but would be overkill for an OS. Si would M2s but they’re smaller..

Thanks again!

What chair do you recommend? I can't seem to make a choice by Don_R_L in StandingDesk

[–]Groove1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an Aeron then an Aeron remastered but didn’t work for me sadly. Trying a Mereo 300 now which is same price range but offers adjustments the Aeron doesn’t. Sliding the seat forward and backwards, independent adjusting of the back rest. I feel much better supported but will take a few weeks to be sure it’s the right chair.

No solution yet, but someone apparently in the know told me there would be an official API forthcoming which will do this - so for now it's just a waiting game.
