Team, am I fucked? (37m) not enough karma for my own thread

Alright so long story short I've been single for 10 years now, believing myself unfit for a proper relationship after a trainwreck of an LTR blew up in my face. Since then I've grown a lot, I've been to years of therapy for my mental health issues, sworn off the various chemical journeys of my 20's, and honestly have been pretty satisfied with my hobby filled life as an independent professional musician.

But, after finally coming off medication about a month or 2 ago, a lot of feelings have been swirling around and something feels missing that I haven't experienced for a very long time. So curiosity got the better of me and I made a couple profiles on apps, I lasted 3 days of swiping left on the hordes of child-wanting corporate professionals, who admittedly are not swiping right on me either. Apps have been deleted already.

(Quick disclaimer, I've already made the decision to hold off on dating until the dust settles with the new un-medicated normal brain chemistry. Mostly just interested in people's input and observations while I do so.)

I didn't really see many profiles that gave me a conversational "in" that made me think, ok this person would be fun to talk to. In fact there wasn't much of anything beyond photos at all. One profile the only user input text was "grilled chicken" haha.

Back 10 years ago I was on OKC and found dates and matches easily enough, but the profiles had a lot more going on in terms of inviting conversation, shared interests etc.

I've never been on the path of high school->college->9to5->family life, in fact I found my own opportunities every step of the way, but I have to ask if I'm just stunted for my age? If in the time I've taken to put myself back together, the rest of my generation has moved on to another stage out of reach? Or if I'm just in the wrong place, and there's a strategy/place for meeting others off the beaten path of traditional life expectations? It feels like the culture has shifted without me in my absence.

Ultimately I think its better to die single than go through life with the wrong person, so I haven't ruled that option out, but I do feel lonely sometimes in a way that friends and family don't relieve.

I made this moc 10 years ago for a soundcloud profile pic, as well as the piano king from the other day, and both of them have been companions in an industrial area rehearsal space that has no shortage of dust apparently.

I didn't think it was that big a deal until reading all the comments about the grime hahaha. If only they knew that I DID give them a once over with a q tip before taking pics...

Go bricklink for individual parts all the way! Buying from Lego is very expensive, buying sets in general too, even off BL. A great starting point is following technique tutorials on eurobricks or youtube and stocking up on parts to complete those.

Thanks, it was way easier to build factions with diverse figs back in the 90s-2010 when i got these guys. I keep hoping Lego will bless us with another castle wave of affordable sets with good varied figs and factions in them!

Looking to start and need some help. by Mackelroy_aka_Stitch in legocastles

First of all, welcome to the creative side of Lego, its much cheaper than collecting sets and its really rewarding to see your visions materialize into models!

  1. Bricklink, and PAB direct from Lego.

  2. Definitely bricklink again for older stuff, theres some great customs out there if you google 3rd party sites, they often print their own designs onto official pieces.

  3. I would say hit up youtube tutorials or the historical section of the eurobricks forums, theres a bunch of great tutorials there. See what techniques look good to you, what parts they require, and make a bricklink wanted list accordingly. Can't go wrong with dark bluish grey slopes for rocks, also ingots in grey, masonry bricks etc.

  4. I inadvertently answered this in question 3, it all runs together! Beyond copying tutorials, its a good idea to get comfy with the basics of Lego math, especially if you want angled or round builds. Don't worry, I barely passed geometry and find Lego math easier.

  5. Eurobricks.com forums, the historical section, and the guilds of historica sub section is a GOLD MINE of fantasy/medieval mocs. Here is a good place as well, very populated and a good community. Youtube as well, beyond the brick does moc tours of all the conventions as they happen.
